121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia decided to accept bitcoin in FIFA WorldCUP in their hetels on: April 09, 2018, 09:25:00 PM
Another interesting thing is, if you pay with bitcoin in advance (e.g. 50% of the room price) and the bitcoin price will be doubled by the time you get to the hotel, will that mean that you have payed the whole price of the room already, because of the price raise?

They should honor the price when the transaction was initiated. But I totally agree that such wild price fluctuations make anything a less desirable medium of exchange. Hence why fiat is so manipulated.
122  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price has never been so stable like the last 4 Hours on: April 09, 2018, 08:11:28 PM
The past 3 days have seen the lowest volume since November. Maybe resting for the big push. Tongue
123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you willing to give BTC in charity? on: April 09, 2018, 03:15:21 AM
Bitcoin's value is fluctuating wildly due to speculation and potential increased regulation and scrutiny. If it is cashed out to fiat or goods at the time of donation, it would make sense. I'm not sure it's well suited for donating to charities otherwise. On the one hand, people would donate coin that would subsequently increase in value, meaning they gave up that increase in opportunity cost. On the other hand, the coin may go down in value, meaning their donation was less than they intended.
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: (For Newbie) Want to Start Bitcoin Investment? Do these 4 Considerations first on: April 08, 2018, 04:59:41 PM
All of the things you posted are completely true and helpful. I would like to add that you should never invest more than you can afford to lose or money you will need in the near future

I agree with this no matter what the market is. So hard for some to be in that financial position though. Smiley
125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Promo Codes to create ICO. DEVELOPERS, OVER HERE!!! on: April 08, 2018, 04:27:01 PM
Since there is some kind of layer of abstraction between the interface where you "create smart contracts for ICO without coding" and the actual smart contract, who is liable when something goes wrong there?
126  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-04-03] Why Coin Age Matters in Cryptocurrency on: April 08, 2018, 04:17:14 PM
When I first saw the headline, I thought the coin collecting magazine CoinAge was getting into crypto lol.
127  Economy / Economics / Re: ZIRP/NIRP will encourage people into Bitcoin and/or Gold? on: April 08, 2018, 04:02:15 PM
...

As interest rates in the USA, Europe and Japan continue to go down, maybe more people will look for alternatives like precious metals and BTC.  In much of Europe, YOU have to pay the BANKS to hold your money for you (Negative Interest Rate Policy).  Might as well just hold CA$H instead, at least you would not lose anything (except to inflation).

But, will zero or negative interest rates likely mean that more people will buy gold or Bitcoin?

Zero Hedge has been following this pretty well, and has a current article up:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-02-18/why-zirpnirp-killing-fractional-reserve-banking-forcing-deposits-gold

"We ZIRP-ed some folks..."

bitcoin or gold?

Gold is better than bitcoin.
Because bitcoin isn't stable.Gold is an asset which can never go to zero. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency which is not backed by any asset. Any time you can sell your gold while in bitcoin you will wait for the right time until you sell it. So I probably choose gold.

Bitcoin and gold are both similar assets (limited supply, must be mined, a clear alternative to fiat) that can be used to potentially get better returns than interest on fiat. I don't think the original source is really pushing crypto over or even as an equal to gold necessarily. They are being lumped together because they are similar IMO.
128  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-04-04] Financial Literacy Needs to Include Knowledge on Cryptocurrency on: April 07, 2018, 10:27:00 PM
It would be nice if they would actually educated people as to what cryptocurrency is and how it works, while avoiding all of the government FUD as well as the scammy types who promise that Bitcoin will be worth $1M in 4 days. I don't expect any government entity to give anyone a positive impression of cryptocurrency since it could put the government out of the money business.
129  Economy / Speculation / Re: falling at a price of $ 6k on: April 07, 2018, 08:10:43 PM
I follow a bitcoin price prediction forum that says that within the next week the bitcoin price will fall on the $ 6k price range
this is based on the graph of bitcoin price fluctuations
What is your opinion

If you look at a historical graph of BTC/USD, BTC went down to $6.2k on February 5th and then bounced backed up. I don't see it going below $6k, but I think it might go there and find support.
130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum [ETH] Vs. Tron [TRX] on: April 07, 2018, 04:26:25 PM
Pretty funny stuff. Ironic that a cryptocurrency with so much emphasis on enabling the "licensing" of content would be accused of stealing. If a Western crypto made licensing intellectual property and content a selling point of their platform, I bet corporations and investors would really take to it. But the whole idea is averse to the philosophy behind crypto IMO.
131  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Patience is a virtue in Cryptocurrency Trading. on: April 07, 2018, 01:05:04 AM
Cryptocurrency is definitely for the long haul. The true value of crypto isn't even realized yet. The true value of Ethereum is in the smart contracts that drive distributed apps. But this technology isn't widely used yet. Just imagine the value of Ethereum when Ether is used to power apps that millions of people depend on? The price so far is driven by the anticipated value of this and by speculation.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Are Reasons for 1% only in Cryptocurrency on: April 05, 2018, 11:54:30 AM
There's a lack of understanding of how it works.

There's a perception that it called itself currency, but it's not "backed by anything," so therefore it's a scam.

The number of people in the US on some kind of public assistance is higher than ever. So a lot of Americans don't have money to invest in anything, much less learn about new technology that has little direct relevance to their lives.

People who are dependent on government would tend to be fine with government fiat currency I would imagine, as long as its buying power meets their needs.
133  Economy / Economics / Re: Can a deflationary currency reliably be used for wages? on: April 04, 2018, 08:56:56 PM
Yeah, I get what you're saying. Prices keep rising while wages can't keep up (though they do adjust slowly), so it could be said that their pay is being docked. As for your point that this is being done by design i.e. using inflation to hide the fact that they're being purposefully "docked" pay, I don't necessarily agree with but I'll leave it at that.

It is definitely purposefully docked. For example, in the US, the interest rate is one way to control the supply and demand of money. If the interest rate is lowered, there is more demand for money and more ends up being printed. This increased supply of money, ceteris paribus, lowers the value of money, since there is more of it--leading to inflation. So while the government might have a debt of $1M dollars on the books, the $1M dollars is only now worth $980 thousand. Scaled out across all the government's debts, this is a significant amount of money. The manipulations of the fiat money supply are a stealth form of taxation. This is one of the reasons why decentralization is so important.
134  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-04-04] Mt Gox CEO: I Don't Want Bankrupt Bitcoin Exchange's Billions on: April 04, 2018, 05:28:44 PM
If Karpeles did the things he's accused of, getting a lot of money like that would open him up to civil suits. I don't think I would want those billions either.

It would be interesting to look out how slowly the trustee unloaded all that Bitcoin. I guess slow, continuous pressure of even such a relatively small amount could have a large effect on price in a market with a lot of HODLers. I think the nature of Bitcoin is such that it would make more sense to redistribute the Bitcoin that is left instead of the cash value of the holdings at the time of bankruptcy. Courts don't deal in Bitcoin, however, and the full quantity of Bitcoins they had are gone so the cash value is really the only thing they can do that seems both equitable and practical, though it certainly sucks.
135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do so many people think that ICOs are illegal in Korea? on: April 04, 2018, 03:04:21 PM
I'm not sure, but there were stories out last month in the media about South Korea relaxing the "ban". I do think the initial media reaction was overblown though. I think they are mainly concerned with foreigners using Korean ICOs to launder money.
136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good news about the crypto currency. on: April 03, 2018, 10:38:22 PM
As I write this, almost all cryptocurrencies are up over the past 24 hours. Good news indeed.

138  Economy / Economics / Re: Binance - from Asia to Europe? on: April 02, 2018, 01:50:38 PM
Because of the Chinese government's strong attitude towards BTC, Binance is very difficult to live in China's neighboring countries.

I think Binance will soon become the world's top exchange.
It already is, about 200 million daily volume above Huobi
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: «Envion» Highest ROI crypto infrastructure | $2M Bounty available! on: April 02, 2018, 01:48:53 PM
I haven't checked this thread for months, can someone please show me the last official update regarding bounty distribution?
140  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [02-04-2018] South Korea Police Arrest 14 People Using Cheap Electricity To Mine on: April 02, 2018, 01:26:39 PM

They should really be stopped for doing something not allowed by law in that area. I think stories like this can be common in the coming months as Bitcoin or cryptocurrency mining can still be profitable despite the slump in the Bitcoin price. In my view, we should be doing things above board as the law enforcers these are already aware of this whole thing. Exploiting an opportunity not allowed by law is something we should be avoiding.
I don't see the problem if the price of electricity is cheaper in that area. They weren't stealing electricity. The only problem is that apparently they reported different activity. They should simply tell by the truth that they are doing bitcoin mining.
