341  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is BitCoin faucets really worth the time? on: June 29, 2014, 01:11:09 AM
faucets are great for getting low amounts of bitcoins for starting new endervours like advertising for referral programs and what not. Just cause you start out small doesn't mean you can't make it big! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=669344.0 check out my topic on how to get 50 000 satoshis in a few minutes you can use this to buy ads on btc websites that will generate you more satoshis with little to no work!

Interesting. So, if I might ask, what are you advertising for -- your own site, some advertising service? What are you getting in return for the traffic that you generate?

Take a look into it it's all explained in the thread, i am promoting myself so I can earn more for myself and others.

It looks like your thread has been removed by mods already. Cheesy
342  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: June 29, 2014, 01:08:39 AM
but from my code block above, 9999 is found often!
It's because theoretically the probability to roll "9999" is 1/10000 and the probability to roll "10000" is 1/20000 (and you make only 10 000 tries, which is not enough to test small probabilities like those).

Can you make 100 000 or even 1 000 000 tries? That would be interesting Smiley

"theoretically the probability to roll "9999" is 1/10000 and the probability to roll "10000" is 1/20000"

Wtf? how is that possible?

Quote
How are rolls calculated?
 Two strings are created :
 STRING1 = "[NONCE]:[SERVER SEED]:[NONCE]"
 STRING2 = "[NONCE]:[CLIENT SEED]:[NONCE]"
Then HMAC-SHA512 is used to hash STRING1 with STRING2 giving us a 128 character hex string.
The first 8 characters of the hex string are taken and converted to a decimal.
This decimal is then divided by 429496.7295 and rounded up to the nearest whole number.
This whole number is used as your roll, with the maximum possible value being 10,000.

Since it uses "round up" instead of "round off", the chance to hit 9999 and 10000 should be the same...
Round up: All numbers bigger than 9999.0000001 will be converted to 10000
Round off: Only numbers bigger than 9999.5000001 will be converted to 10000
Whoa, I didn't know about that difference! But how one can roll "0" then? I think some people were reporting they got "0", and wetsuit said rolling "0" is possible? That's why I decided it's the usual rounding.

I didn't use the faucet, and if the numbers are generated as described, the only chance to get "0" is to get "00000000" in the sha512 output and the probability for that to happen should be just 1/(16^8).

344  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Interest Rate on: June 29, 2014, 12:55:55 AM
i wouldnt trust anyone giving more than 10% interest/year.
there is just too much bad history, remember the pirate ?

Well, the JD case is not really interest but investment returns.
And doog has proved his trustworthiness before and once again after JD stopped all betting a few days ago.

But, I do agree that many of the "investment programs" have turned out to be scams, such as Pirateat40 and TF...
345  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: im new on: June 29, 2014, 12:51:46 AM
Anyway...I remember bitcoin from years back.  I think there's a chance I may have opened an account, or bought some (?)  How would I go about finding out?

Do you remember when you may have bought the bitcoin and how you pay for it?
It may give us some hints about the exchange you used.

Shouldn't this thread be placed in altcoin section, considering it is about your Goldcoin contest?

Check Stunna's post history for details. Wink
350  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How some services offer Bitcoin against credit card ? on: June 29, 2014, 12:34:23 AM
These sites must estimate the percentage of reversals they'll have.

Then add a premium price greater than that percentage.

Right. They do all the math and figure out the averages and what price they can sell the btc at and make profit. They just calculate the risk vs reward and deal with the chargebacks.

I wonder how big the market is for legitimate bitcoin buyers who purchase with their credit cards.

Probably big enough. The problem is there's no easy way distinguish them.

Because there is no easy way to distinguish the good buyers from the bad buyers, the people/exchanges accepting reversible payments need to charge a pretty high premium to off-set the risk, which IMO makes the market quite small (ie only those aiming to buy a little bitcoin will use paypal or credit cards).
351  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to buy software with BTC? on: June 29, 2014, 12:30:40 AM
I can access the above tigerdirect link without problem. I have completely no clue why you get blocked from it...
Many countries are blocked from viewing the site at all. I get the same message.

There are quite a few retail stores in the US that block international web traffic surprisingly.

I see. I didn't know that, thanks for the information. Smiley
352  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet question on: June 28, 2014, 11:43:37 PM
It will always work for the private keys that are included in the back-up. But remember, if you regularly create new addresses, make transactions, etc, you must back up your wallet regularly. Otherwise, new private keys generated may not be included in your original back-up.

Thanks, yes this is the point, how many transaction can be done before the old wallet.dat must be updated?

It depends on your wallet client and your setting about your keypool size.
If you are using bitcoin-qt with default setting, you would have 100 unused keys in your keypool, so your backup wallet file contains all your existing private keys and your next 100 private keys to be "generated".
353  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to break the Alt Forum into sub categories? on: June 28, 2014, 11:40:47 PM
IMO, this will just create tons of work for the mods to handle all those threads at wrong sub-sections.
Those who care about altcoin could spend a minute to read the OP and check if it is premine, PoS, etc.
Those who don't care about altcoin would have the whole altcoin section in ignore list.
354  Other / Meta / Re: I need help on: June 28, 2014, 11:28:54 PM
that hacked accounts scares me

Hope I can keep my account without these problems

Don't reuse the passwords, and don't download "strange" files or run "strange" programs on your computers.
These should keep your account 99.9% safe.

Stop spamming every topic with a link to your shitty ponzi

It is not a ponzi. If you think that way than our financial system is a  ponzi too,so?

Indeed, some people do think the fractional banking system is a ponzi.
The following is just one example. (It doesn't mean I agree with the article at all)

Without an address to sign a message you're pretty much SOL on account recovery, sorry dude  Undecided
if he did some trades via pms and have address in that pms  that can be considered ?

Yes definitely.

It's best to include it naturally in a post. But if you can't, you can send a PM to an account that won't delete it (you could use DefaultTrust for this). After you send it, check your outbox and make a note of the PM's ID (visible in the quote URL).

I can provide those details to the mods as well as the trusted members who can vouch for me

I am afraid only theymos can help you in this case, and more importantly,

If you want me to recover a hacked/lost account, you need to prove that you own it. Typically, the only acceptable method of proving ownership is by signing a message (including current date and desired new email address) using a Bitcoin address or PGP key associated with the account. A Bitcoin address or PGP key is associated with the account only if the account posted the key/address, sent it in a PM, or if it is still listed in the account's profile.

I very rarely recover accounts if you can't prove ownership as described above. There are alternative ways of proving ownership, but they take too much time. If I point you to this thread, you can't prove ownership properly, and then I ignore your future PMs, this means that I'm not going to recover your account. Create a new one.
