301  Other / Meta / Re: Stop quote pyramids ? on: July 30, 2014, 07:59:13 PM
Except they more often than not don't, as like the above said, people are too lazy. The whole message or multiple quotes are usually not needed, and you don't even need to quote the post above you most of the time or can cut chunks out, but people don't, so this is why the automatic collapsing is a good idea.
That's true. I guess we can't depend on others to do this.

Yup, and so the way bitcointa.lk handles quotes is pretty good, by automatically collapsing the quotes when they get too long.

I like the way bitcointa.lk handles them and they're collapsible / you have to 'click to expand'. I think something similar should be employed here.

hilariousandco, you should make a thread in the new software section. Smiley
302  Other / Meta / Re: How to see the original post? on: July 30, 2014, 07:55:07 PM
How exactly does this work? Is this an official part of the forum or does someone else run this?
It's unofficial but not frowned upon. It copies each thread from these forums about once per minute or something like that, so frequent edits / quickly deleted posts will be missed. It seems to be lagging more these days.

I believe bitcointa.lk is actually created by cedivad, and the service announcement thread here is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=515932.0

IIRC, people could earn some bitcoin for playing Minecraft on a private server long long time ago, but I believe it has been discontinued now.

why does a login count as a post in the 360 second timer. i think it catches a lot of newer people out.
is a login that counts really required ?
Exactly. And search limit is also stupid IMO.

The forum search doesn't work very well indeed, and so I never use it to be honest.
It is much easier and better to use google search with site:bitcointalk.org.
306  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Boss lives in USA & I live in NZ - want to transfer my wages by bitcoin! HELP! on: July 27, 2014, 10:12:14 AM
My boss lives in Florida USA, and wants to pay my wages in Bitcoin..I live in NZ! What is the best exchange for him to buy from, and where can I exchange back into NZD my end?
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP???

The best option IMO is to ask your boss to register on Coinbase, buy bitcoin through Coinbase and send it to you.
You can register an account on bitstamp or btc-e and sell your bitcoin there (after ID verification).
307  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 51% problem still existant after all coins have been mined ? on: July 27, 2014, 10:07:59 AM
cex.io have said they arent intending of launching an attack.

I don't have any info on this, but I found the following thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=327767.0) that mentioned Ghash.io did try to double-spend against a casino...
308  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello from CoinedUp.com on: July 27, 2014, 10:02:37 AM
Apparently CoinedUp is on its way Down. They keep notifying to withdraw. Right now Moon and Tips.  Many others.
I tried to send them to Cryptsy. Coined up says TIPS Pending, MOON Rejected?Huh Cryptsy does not see any attempted deposits.
Crypto seems to be heading for a collapse. The Evil Empire (the New World Order) is upon us.

De listing coins is a typical practice. You shouldn't be scared. They even said that they will be bringing down the daemons to warn people.

True, but there are only 9 altcoins listed now on CoinedUp and the transaction volumes are very low.
It is definitely not a good news to me.
309  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much is a normal amount to mine a day? on: July 27, 2014, 09:56:43 AM
Yea I used to be mining about 0.01 BTC a day (on clevermining.com) with a nice gaming computer (desktop of course), but now with the summer and the trash difficulties, I had to stop mining. It made my room hot and I would only make about 0.002 BTC a day, which is only a fraction bigger than what the electricity costs.
Why did it go down so drastically?

The difficulty today is 18,736,441,558 while the difficulty a year ago is 31,256,961.

The difficulty is 600x higher, and so the mining revenue is 1/600 of what you used to get a year ago. Wink
310  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much is a normal amount to mine a day? on: July 27, 2014, 09:53:27 AM
that all depends on the hash of performance you have w. the miner @ current difficulties.

Alright, thanks, I will look mine up

You can use a mining calculator (https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator for example) to see how much you can expect to get with your hashrate. Smiley

How do people get addresses wrong?
I presume nobody ever types them out.  Grin

You have a Bitcoin address in your clipboard from a payment you made earlier, you try to copy another address but didn't press the key hard enough so when you paste it you paste the wrong address.

Always triple check addresses before sending Smiley

Triple check is a must lol. Sometimes I'm just in a rush. I'll have one on my keyboard, paste, and want to click send. But then I tell myself to double check that the address I pasted IS the address of the person I want to send to.

Agree that a triple checking on payment address and transaction amount is needed.
But for some people, they simply don't handle it carefully enough.

Check http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/273vi2/if_you_just_received_800_bitcoin_out_of_the_blue to see a person sending 800btc to the wrong address (which turns out to a mtgox address) in early Jun, but luckily he received his bitcoin back a month later.  Smiley
312  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How easy was it to buy Bitcoin back in 2011? on: July 27, 2014, 09:44:57 AM
I`m planning to buy btc, and it seems a lot harder since theres so much verifications, esp coinbase.

And linking to bank account etc.

You can buy some with localbitcoins, this way you don't have to worry about banks, just contact your seller and pay him.

I was going to use localbitcoins when I first got involved, but the person selling wanted an extra 10% on top of btc price. I figured it was worth it to go ahead and set up an account with coinbase and not have to pay that ridiculous extra charge.

10%? That is pretty bad.
I can find a few traders on localbitcoins in my city with over 100+ good feedback selling bitcoin at about 3-5% premium. Smiley
313  Other / Off-topic / Re: VPNs - do you use it on: July 27, 2014, 09:40:30 AM
TOR is much better option than VPN
VPN is much faster than TOR. TOR gave me migraines w/ its slowness.

VPNs are cheap.
TOR is much better option than VPN
TOR will leak the fact that you are using TOR while VPN will not necessarily leak the fact that you are using a VPN.

TOR is much slower then most VPNs will be. There are also a lot of sites that block access to TOR exit nodes

True and true.
The best feature of Tor is that it is completely free. Smiley

I expect it to go down. Once all have been mined it may grow in value some. What percentage have been mined so far?

You can check https://btc.blockr.io/ for that. At this moment, the figure is 62.23% Smiley

Just curious, did you read some very out-dated tutorial in bitcoin mining?
316  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Everyone of my friends says the same: "How do I get Bitcoins?" on: July 27, 2014, 09:22:13 AM
Everyone of them say "why do I want to work for Bitcoins? I would rather get paid in dollars" or they don't care to buy Bitcoins.

Obviously, your friends prefer to have USD rather than BTC, and so it is reasonable for them to make such comments.
For those appreciate BTC more than USD, they will love to get paid in BTC. Smiley
317  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Do You Buy BTC? on: July 27, 2014, 09:19:29 AM
I use both BTC-e and localbitcoins.
BTC-e when I want to get bitcoin at a cheaper price, localbitcoins when I need the coin ASAP. Smiley
318  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC-E , money transferred to old address on: July 27, 2014, 09:17:10 AM
if btc-e no longer has access to the private keys to old deposit addresses, then why would you expect them to be able to credit you bitcoin that you send to those addresses?

Since the bitcoin on OP's old deposit address were spent, I believe btc-e still has the private keys to the old addresses.

With the closing of JustDice they could become the industry leader again if they can get tribute to work properly.

Did "tribute" have auto-bet? The automatic betting at Primdice is really fun if you use settings that your bankroll can afford.

There was a button for betting martingale in the Tribute game. Automatic betting will be available in the new version of the game too.

Now the big question is when will the new version of Tribute be ready. Cheesy
