Wow I didnt know a transaction could take this long.

It won't happen if a min fee is included in the transaction.  Wink
402  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: macbook crash and multibit wallet on: May 22, 2014, 03:03:08 PM
OK so following multibit instructions, I was able to find files such as multibit.wallet......I was unable to find a   .dat. File.

"wallet.dat" is the default name for wallet file of bitcoin-qt.
".wallet" is the default name for wallet file of multibit.

So, it is perfectly fine.

I transferred over the   .wallet file but when I go to open it, says "there is no application set to open the document multibit.wallet.

Are you using multibit to load the wallet file? It seems to me that you are trying to open the file directly.

Thank you, but what is differece between "public key" and "bitcoin address"?

Detailed and technical explanation: https://en.bitcoin.it/w/images/en/9/9b/PubKeyToAddr.png
Very simple explanation: private key ---(one-way)--->  public key ---(one way)---> bitcoin address
404  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Platform Cross Trading on: May 22, 2014, 02:45:38 PM
Okay hello guys,

i have to say I am really new to bitcoins, i am tracking the charts about 3 or 4 months, and I have got a Question.
Well, lets start with this site: http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/

I am pretty careful about trading, I've never tried. But I thought to start trading.

Can I imagine the complete bitcoin trading like there are a few kind of "marketplaces", where the qutations for the same product are different?

If so, is it possible to just buy the "product" (=bitcoin) from the sellor in one marketplace and just sell it at another with a higher qutation?
So do all wallets just have the same kind of interface for transactioning, and at the right websites/brokers/marketplaces wallet I can transform it to another websites/broker/marketplaces wallet? I have read much (shit) about this and I dont know any comparable example where I can imagine this.

Could you please help me with a little example or just answer the line#6 Question?

Thanks!

True, there are different places to buy/sell bitcoin, and each has a different price.
But, you need to take the fees into consideration.
For example, after selling bitcoin in exchange 1, you need to withdraw fiat to your bank account with fee and deposit fiat to exchange 2 with another fee. Smiley
405  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Better way to do paper wallets? on: May 22, 2014, 02:41:15 PM
I created mine just using my blockchain.info account.

It is easy, but it is not really a good way to create paper wallet, as explained by cahirlet in #21.

You need to trust
1) blockchain.info for creating the address with good entropy
2) blockchain.info hasn't been hacked and generate addresses in favour of the hackers.
406  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Urls next to BTC addresses on: May 22, 2014, 02:32:45 PM
Are those tags just visible on the blockchain.info website?

Yes. It is just a feature offered by the site blockchain.info.
407  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Urls next to BTC addresses on: May 22, 2014, 02:30:06 PM
Like this address: https://blockchain.info/address/1NxaBCFQwejSZbQfWcYNwgqML5wWoE3rK4
It has a name and I was wondering how they do this?

You can add tags for your addresses in blockchain.info wallet page, or add tags for any addresses in this page. https://blockchain.info/tags
Now how do I remove a tag?

AFAIK, you can't. Wink
If you really want to do that, try sending a support ticket to blockchain.info.
408  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie question on: May 22, 2014, 02:28:14 PM
Thank you for the answer, but I meant that when I make a paper wallet that is connected to my public key, should I always create a new paper wallet when I make some trasnactions?

1. Paper wallet is best used for you to store your bitcoin for a long period of time without touching it. Of course, eventually you will spend it.
2. When you spend your bitcoin on an address, your public key (not bitcoin address) will be known to the world. So, it is better not to re-use your address. For that reason, I would personally prefer to make a new paper wallet for the change (rather than sending the change back to the original address).
409  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin ever reach $1000 dollars again? on: May 22, 2014, 02:24:13 PM
With short spikes and drops in Bitcoin value happening on a daily basis do you see Bitcoin reaching its previous peak value and also do you see it exceeding this value by a considerable distance?

It is always hard to predict bitcoin value.
No one could imagine bitcoin price went from literally valueless to $1000 in 5 years and went from $1150 to $500 in 2 weeks. Smiley

Anyway, I have confidence in bitcoin and believe the price could be much much higher a few years later.
410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie question on: May 22, 2014, 02:19:12 PM
When I use my private key, for example sending from my public key some fraction of my bitcoin, does the private key remain the same?

The private keys for your addresses won't be changed.
BTW, "public key" and "address" are two different things. Smiley
411  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie question on: May 22, 2014, 02:17:17 PM
in bitcoin-QT, private key is associate to 100 generate public key.

Nope, 1 private key is associated to 1 public key, and you have 100 private keys in keypool in qt by default.

you don't send bitcoin with public key ... you send bitcoin from private key to public key.

You don't send anything "from private key" but you use the private key to sign the transaction.

CryptoLocker  seems to be a raltive new and fast spreading virus that "hackers" use it to make money...sadly..

Not that new...I believe it first came out in Sept 2013. Sad

Polycoin is pro bitcoin, it being built on top of it.

http://www.polycoin.io/

415  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ransom for Cryptolocker on: May 22, 2014, 01:57:43 PM
Hi there
I need to buy bitcoins to pay for the ransom for cryptolocker to free up my files.
I signed up to bitcoin but do not know how to pay for the bitcoins - can I use paypal or a credit card?

If you need to buy bitcoin quick, you could check localbitcoins and you may find cash trades near you.
It is not easy to buy bitcoin with paypal or credit card, due to potential chargeback.
416  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ransom for Cryptolocker on: May 22, 2014, 01:55:36 PM
IS there no other way to get rid of it? Can't you take yourl drive out and put it in an external caddy and try search for the virus? Usually works for me.

According to wikipedia, "Although CryptoLocker itself is readily removed, files remain encrypted in a way which researchers have considered infeasible to break. Many say that the ransom should not be paid, but do not offer any way to recover files; others say that paying the ransom is the only way to recover files that had not been backed up. Payment often, but not always, has been followed by files being decrypted."

You just need to endure the 360s limit until May 27 (start of the next 2 weeks period).
418  Other / Meta / Re: Want to meet admin on: May 22, 2014, 01:46:17 PM
You registered your account on May 20 and made only a few posts, why don't you just register a new one?

BTW, don't ask for loans again with your new account lol. Cheesy
419  Other / Meta / Re: how to delete bitcointalk.org account? on: May 22, 2014, 01:37:30 PM
There is no option to delete an account on BitcoinTalk but you can try contacting administrators.

According to BadBear and Maged, theymos won't delete your account because it is a troublesome process.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=463139.msg5135392#msg5135392
I'd like theymos' statement on this rather than speculations.
Judging by other threads here, and looking at the help section, it should be technically possible. Heck over at Litecointalk you can do it yourself, and it looks like the same forum software.
We don't delete accounts anymore, because it is quite a bit of work. Before an account is deleted, theymos has to do at least the following:
1) Make sure that the account wasn't hacked.
2) Check for any existing scam accusations against the person.
3) Check their outbound PMs for scammy behavior.

This is a long, painful process, so theymos just doesn't do it anymore.

He's said before he doesn't do it anymore.

why cant they banned scammer like polycoin who post such stupid words from this forum dank who still exist and still attempting to get loan
so maybe badbear can delete my account here if that would make him happy

AFAIK, mods won't ban scammer (even with evidence), and won't remove posts made to scam people.
