361  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any predictions - Fed Auction? on: June 27, 2014, 06:37:29 PM
IMO, the bidders probably won't sell the bitcoin in the market right away, but rather hold it for quite some time waiting for mass adoption of bitcoin (if any).
And if the winning price is much lower than the current market price, it will be a bad news and will drive the bitcoin price down right away without the bidders actually selling their bitcoin.

362  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 5 tips for buying bitcoins (video) on: June 27, 2014, 06:29:25 PM
Hello,
I've just created a new video about the 5 golden rules to follow when buying Bitcoins (also mentioned this forum in it). I'd appreciate if any of you have any more rules you think should be added to comment about them here.

Thanks.

The 5 rules are pretty good, but you may also warn people about accepting reversible payments (such as paypal). Smiley

In the case of reversible payments the risk is only to the seller, so I didn't see any need to incorporate this here.

Oops my bad. You are right, and I thought I was reading 5 tips for "trading" bitcoin lol.

EDIT: On a second thought, may be you could warn them the difficulty of buying bitcoin with reversible payments. Tongue
363  Other / Meta / Re: Is there anyway to get rid of negative feedback given because Vox didnt like me? on: June 27, 2014, 06:25:26 PM
I have tried talking to him, but he has blocked me.

You will have the "Warning: Trade with extreme caution!" tag on you forever, unless you can some positive trust from people on default trust list.
Or, you may just register a new account, and never ever ask for a loan without any collateral.
364  Other / Meta / Re: hillariousnco banned? on: June 27, 2014, 05:40:30 PM
Just did (both). Better luck with his next accounts I guess. Also looking forward to another hang/stab/ban badbear thread.
Bb is just doing his job, i dont ought to say anything to him but still i think that hillarious is hijacker and a topic deviator.

And yes, i am alt of  justus

And that's why I miss the newbie jail...  Sad
365  Other / Meta / Re: Is there anyway to get rid of negative feedback given because Vox didnt like me? on: June 27, 2014, 05:36:06 PM
Vox gave me negative feedback for asking for a loan, and because I want sure about what collateral to use to bombed me with negative feedback and now I am a marked man no on will talk to. I have tried talking to him to see what I have to do to get rid of it,but hehas blocked me because apparently he cant be bothered with that. I didnt do anything wrong, he basically didnt like me, so he marked me. Arnt mods supposed to be reasonable? ANy help with this would be great, becasuse I would like to get a loan, but no one will even talk to me now.

First, it is Vod.
Second, he is not a mod, but just a reputable member here.
Third, the trust system is unmoderated, and no one can remove the negative feedback, except Vod himself.

Probably not lol.

You can lock the thread yourself.
367  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what should I do with 0.20247 bitcoins? on: June 27, 2014, 05:26:22 PM
I bought some 10.4 bitcoins for 495USD a few days ago. I am saving(!) most of it for my family members. the 0.20247 are the "left over" in my wallet, and I want to do something with them - to learn and gain experience.
If you purchased 10.4 bitcoins for $495USD please for the love of god hook me up with this person!!!  You can have my first born!

Hmm... Either he bought 10.4 bitcoins for $495 in total or he bought 10.4 bitcoins for $495 each. The former seems unlikely because that price would be too cheap. But the latter also seems unlikely (although not the same extent) because it would mean that he spent over $5,000.

I believe it is very likely the latter case.
That $5000 may probably be just a tiny fraction of his family's savings. After all, he considers 0.2 btc as "left over" Tongue
368  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to buy bitcoins with VISA or PayPal? on: June 27, 2014, 05:16:37 PM
bit the problem is you must use pay as service to active chargebacks and it will cost much money to pay fee

Not really.
From what I heard, you can simply claim your paypal account was hacked, and get the transaction reversed even if you sent it as gift.
369  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Interest Rate on: June 27, 2014, 05:14:13 PM
Just dice used to pay around 30% rate on bitcoin as an investment.

That's the average return rate, but too bad the opportunity is gone now. Sad

Our recent weekly returns have been:

Mar  3 2014    -0.71%
Mar 10 2014    -0.14%
Mar 17 2014     0.41%
Mar 24 2014     0.80%
Mar 31 2014     0.79%
Apr  7 2014     1.35%
Apr 14 2014     0.90%
Apr 21 2014     1.01%
Apr 28 2014     0.85%
May  5 2014     0.56%
May 12 2014     0.32%
May 19 2014     1.05%
May 26 2014     0.35%
Jun  2 2014     0.22%
Jun  9 2014     2.06%
Jun 16 2014     0.22%
Jun 23 2014     0.83%

That's an average (adding them up and dividing by 17) of 0.64% per week or (multiplying by 52) 33.25% per year.
370  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: anyone know how to trade on btcchina.com? on: June 27, 2014, 05:06:53 PM
bump.
have you found an answer elswhere?

Btcchina.com have added English language support. This was not the case in 2011 when I posted the question.

There is a English layout on the site now, but I am not sure if their support persons are capable of handling English queries. Smiley https://vip.btcchina.com/?lang=en
371  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A list of Bitcoin investment opportunities on: June 27, 2014, 04:59:18 PM
You could try at Cryptory but you should look for reviews yourself too.Currently they seem to be paying.
from i knew before, cryptory is HYIP program right?
not a good place for a safe investment because they can run away with your money anytime

Yup, and that's why all those ponzi and hyip threads are placed in "Gambling" section. Wink
372  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A list of Bitcoin investment opportunities on: June 27, 2014, 04:58:14 PM
Sites like btcjam and bitbond.

Is there a master list of these sites somewhere.

Thanks

I don't think there is a master list, but you can find lots of investment opportunities in "Gambling" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=56.0, "Securities" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=78.0 and "Lending" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=65.0.

But be warned that there are many scammers...
373  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Forget Password - Bitcoin Core Wallet - 100 BTC INSIDE ! on: June 27, 2014, 04:51:18 PM
Would be funny to try that with a physical object. Find an expensive bicycle parked somewhere and try to sell it claiming you lost the keys to the lock.

Indeed, I do remember reading a local news long time ago, that someone seek help from a locksmith to get in "his own house" after "leaving his key inside in the morning". Tongue
374  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Forget Password - Bitcoin Core Wallet - 100 BTC INSIDE ! on: June 27, 2014, 04:41:00 PM
he can try password combination that he remembered
if it can't open, then he should forget it and take a lesson from that experience

If he can remember part of the password, he may ask others to brute force the password for him.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=85495.0 (Not endorsing the service)

But it won't work if the "unknown" part of your password is too long.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=85495.msg4401257#msg4401257
It's not feasible to guess completely random passphrases.  Here are how many days it it will take with one CPU:

Code:
passphrase length            lowercase         alphanumeric        any character
                   1                 0.00                 0.00                 0.00
                   2                 0.00                 0.00                 0.00
                   3                 0.00                 0.03                 0.10
                   4                 0.05                 1.71                 9.43
                   5                 1.38               106.03               895.58
                   6                35.75              6574.10             85080.08
                   7               929.61            407594.28           8082607.59
                   8             24169.80          25270845.55         767847721.40
                   9            628414.78        1566792424.34       72945533532.94
                  10          16338784.22       97141130308.84     6929825685629.39

Even with a large budget (thousands of CPUs or GPUs) you could only do 6 or 7 characters.

It's only possible to crack a passphrase when you know most of it and the unknown part is constrained.  That's why I have so many custom tailored scripts in this thread - each targets a narrow pattern which could be identified.
375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Block Explorer do you use ? on: June 27, 2014, 04:34:21 PM
Maybe they are just having to expand their infrastruture to copy with the ever increasing new userbase?

Maybe.
After all, they are the most popular (by a far distance) block explorer, and the only one offering a wallet service alongside.

377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to buy software with BTC? on: June 27, 2014, 04:26:09 PM
Subscription service? It says "Access Denied" ?

Well I tried  Huh

I can access the above tigerdirect link without problem. I have completely no clue why you get blocked from it...
378  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Interest Rate on: June 27, 2014, 04:23:58 PM
You can earn interest on BTC deposits through Bitfinex. The funds are loaned to traders taking a short position. The risk you take is the solvency of Bitfinex. The rates are very low. About 1.5% p.a. But in a way, that is quite reassuring.

Nice to know that there are people taking short positions as well.  Grin

IMO, the margin trading is the main selling point of bitfinex. https://www.bitfinex.com/pages/howitworks#margin-trading
379  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Block Explorer do you use ? on: June 27, 2014, 04:20:57 PM
Here are the block explorer I know:
https://blockchain.info/
https://blockr.io/
https://blockexplorer.com/
https://www.biteasy.com/
https://chain.so/btc
https://helloblock.io/
http://bitcoinchain.com/block_explorer
https://bkchain.org/btc

I mainly use blockchain.info just because I got used to its layout...
And when it is not working, I switch to blockr.io simply because of the slightly shorter name. Smiley
380  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Block Explorer do you use ? on: June 27, 2014, 04:10:57 PM
I mainly use Blockchain.info ,it's simple ,easy ,advanced (Auto-updated) and has good graphics as well. it has been down multiple times though but a very high up-time.

But this down time has become deadly for services running on top of their API.

Exactly.
If your service builds on top of their API, you probably wouldn't call it a "very high up-time". Tongue
