1521  Economy / Gambling / Re: Crysis 2 Tournament on: July 01, 2011, 09:35:35 PM
depends on what system we are talking about.....i only  have crysis 2 for ps3

if you are looking for a pc shooter that most people (on steam anyways) are going to have, tf2 is the way to go.....

1522  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why does it keep falling ? on: July 01, 2011, 09:11:36 PM
my guess is that this weeks flat trading scared a few speculators into selling, dropping the price into the low 16's yesterday...thats causing a ripple effect and now there is a panic sale that will prob drive it down to mid or low 15's

i actually wish i had more usd in dwolla or on the exchange to buy more today...i spent my reserve cash on the low prices yesterday......my guess is the price will settle at 14-15 and go back up to 16-17 in the next few days.

in any case, im keeping my money in....i could be wrong, but if i am, i haven't lost too much (never gamble what you cant afford to lose  Wink)

The only thing gawker understands is viewer count... I won't be adding to that Wink

lol to each his own i guess  Wink

cant say i understand the hate for gawker network though, i go to kotaku, gizmodo, and lifehacker daily....sometimes even hit up jalopnik and io9 too  Grin
1525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: good bitcoin article on Gizmodo on: July 01, 2011, 07:54:17 AM
ok so its more of a gallery than an article, but it shows brick-and-mortar shops that take bitcoins....cant beat good press Smiley

Yea wish I could read it Wink Since they switched to that, whatever they call that layout... I call it total crap.

I was reading via uk.gizmodo.com and ca.gizmodo.com, but recently those started re-directing to the nasty layout as well.

I don't visit gizmodo anymore.

1526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: good bitcoin article on Gizmodo on: July 01, 2011, 07:53:10 AM
The layout of the site is horrible. I did not know how to continue reading the article and the big add in the middle is anoying as hell.

But I like that Bitcoin business are getting free publicity and I loved this comment:

Quote
Bitcoin is also used to buy and sell stolen credit card numbers. I know it sounds crazy, but if the people who make a living by exploiting the insecure way we currently make electronic transactions trust Bitcoin, then Bitcoin must be on to something.

I would be much more skeptical if Bitcoin was exclusively used by a group of idealistic academics. If it can survive as the currency of the underworld, then there's no reason honest people can't use it too.

yeah, they changed the layout a while back...it used to be a standard blog-style layout which was way easier to navigate.

in any case, the "article" is more or less just a gallery with commentary...just click the row of pictures under the main headline picture.  i wish it was more comprehensive than a slideshow, but it cast btc in a fairly positive light (which is more than i can say about a lot of other media) so im not complaining too much..   Smiley

lol, that comment was priceless

1529  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Should there be a "acceptable use" set of rules for bitcoins? on: July 01, 2011, 03:59:26 AM
NO.

BTC should be unregulated, anonymous, and accepted anywhere  Wink ...

1530  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Sellers' Poll on: June 30, 2011, 10:14:39 PM
holding. the market is too flat for me to make any money now.  bought in a little higher than id like (@ 16.49) on the last cycle before the crash...holding with limit orders at 18, 19, and the bulk of it at 20 and looking to buy in now from 15.5 down to 10.

but everything is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too flat for me right now....i bought in to the market to take advantage of volitility....if it stays this flat, ill just store the money in btc until the the next boom or bust.
1531  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is MtGox SCAM ? "An email has been sent to your address". Still waiting on: June 29, 2011, 11:31:05 PM
this may be a dumb question, but have you checked your spam folder?

1532  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What's to stop the following type of market manipulation (example using TH)? on: June 29, 2011, 10:13:08 PM
assuming you bought enough btc to move the market (which would take a LOT of cash) there is no guarantee you can sell them at the ask price. in fact selling all those coins at once would crash the price of the stocks you were trying to sell (killing your profit) unless you were selling dark pool.

in fact, a massive selloff (like you propose) crashed mtgox and drove the price to .01
1533  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Daytrading/speculating strategies on: June 28, 2011, 08:47:55 PM
looks like another day of flat trading...might be time to start looking into dr bitcoins idea of playing the exchanges against each other..  im thinking i may move my limit orders closer together too (but thats not leaving much profit room)

if animated avatars are that distracting for you, (and assuming you use firefox);

type about:config in the address bar of firefox
change image.animation_mode from normal to none or once.

.....or you can duct tape the left side of your screen.....you know, whatever works best for you Wink
1536  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Daytrading/speculating strategies on: June 28, 2011, 03:39:31 AM
I always figure the .65% hit before determining the price whether sell or but.  put it in for each transaction, now we're talking a 1.3% difference minimum before you even come out on top.  So it really needs to be bouncing to get anywhere with it.

definately. its been pretty flat today, didnt see too many opportunities to jump in so i left my positions as is....hoping some of my limit orders get triggered tonight....in any case i dont think it will be too long before we start seeing big swings in the market again

1537  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Daytrading/speculating strategies on: June 27, 2011, 11:56:00 PM
i know that there was a similar thread posted earlier, so to clarify, im looking for more of a review of my strategy and for some specifics from experianced traders on thier strategies....
1538  Economy / Trading Discussion / Daytrading/speculating strategies on: June 27, 2011, 11:52:03 PM
Even though most people on this forum speak to btc in terms of commerce or investments, I know there are plenty of people on here daytrading....id be interested to hear some strategies other people are using when trading, as well as share mine.

some things i am wondering
how much of a difference do you have b/w your buy and sell prices?
are you using primarily standing orders, or are you trading fluidly with the market?
how many trades are you executing in an average day?

as for me, im pretty new at day trading (i run my own stock portfolio, but im a buy-and-hold sort of guy when it comes to stocks) so im not sure if my strategy is optimal....what im currently doing is using limit orders laddered in price (i have sell orders at 18, 19, and 20, and buy orders at 15, 14.5, 14, and 10).......im not sure if i should have less of a price gap between my buy and orders, i thought it would be sufficient, but i feel like im missing out on a lot of trading.....

what do you guys think? what are your strategies?
