161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tomorrow I want to hide a wallet.dat somewhere in Western NC. on: September 02, 2011, 04:50:22 AM
This would work better if you posted it on geocaching forums or something. These people live for this kind of stuff. You don't even have to try selling Bitcoins to them first, just tell them there is something hidden out there and they will try and figure out what it is after they find it

Thats a good idea, I'll look into it.  Bitcoins are a great geocache item because value can be added to it.

162  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let's recap on what we've seen in the past few months on: September 02, 2011, 04:46:41 AM
We started at $32.

We saw a seemingly stable 17.
It went down.

We had a seemingly stable 13.
It went down.

Stable 10.
Guess? Ah, you're right, it went down.

Now we're at 8. Guess what will happen?

Honestly, anyone who thinks it will go up is too optimistic.

were we at a stable 32?

Yes there are people in WNC, lots of em.  I wish I could go anywhere in the world and do it but I have miners to tend to and can't stray too far from them.  I meant a flash drive, I could triple bag it and seal it in an airtight container.  The CD would be backup.  I'm not that website savvy I planned on just doing a blog with google maps.  Maybe I should think bigger.  Or maybe I will start small with a test run.
164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Tomorrow I want to hide a wallet.dat somewhere in Western NC. on: September 02, 2011, 04:07:23 AM
I'd like to do some kind of bitcoin treasure hunt and I will go scope out a place tomorrow.  I will hide a zip drive and a couple cd's with a wallet.dat with some bitcoins on it.  I will then give updates with maps and a clue every few days on my website that isn't up yet. (bitcointreasurehunt.com)  I think something like this can bring alot of attention to bitcoin even from the average joe, especially if the amount got very high.  I'd love the community and bitcoin companies to add to the treasure whenever they wish.  People can monitor how much is on it by just looking at the block explorer.  There are some problems though.

1. You would have to trust me, which is hard to do these days on the forums.  Who's to say I just wont walk away with the wallet.dat when the bounty gets too high?  I do have a mining asset on the glbse and it would not be in my best interest to have another bitcoin scandal go down.  I believe in bitcoin and the glbse and want to see them both succeed.  The reason that I have a few grand worth of mining gear at my house (among other things) is a reason I'd like to remain semi-anonymous.

2. What if the person that finds it wishes to remain anonymous and one day everyone checks the block explorer and its empty.  The first place people would look would be me.

Should I encrypt the wallet.dat and make the person show the community proof that they found it?  Then I give them the password?

I'd love to hear some suggestions to make it legit.  If its too much trouble I'll just do it myself for fun.

Thanks
Bitcoin Swami.

We are attacking Texas law enforcement as part of "Chinga La Migra" as they
continue to harass immigrants and use border patrol operations as a cover for
their backwards racist prejudice.

Question, why are hacktivists retarded?

I thought that part was a little strange too.

Been using you for the past few days.  Very happy.

My only problem I have is, I'd love to see the actual total and not the subtotal from amazon so I can figure in shipping to my price.  Any way around this?
168  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANN] LIF.A and LIF.B, market funds on GLBSE on: September 01, 2011, 08:13:13 PM
This Glbse is very exciting.  Just need to get the bitcoiners eyes off the bitcoin charts and onto the Glbse charts.
169  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Smoky Mountain mining now offering daily dividends to GLBSE investors. on: September 01, 2011, 05:46:37 PM
Could someone post the dividend/share for each of the days on which a dividend has been paid please ?

I am trying to do a competitive analysis of SMM vs SIN and unfortunately the Google Spreadsheet for SMM only gives the total dividend payout rather than the more useful dividend/share figure. I can infer the total number of shares which are receiving a dividend from that total payout but I would like the actual figures themselves for the analysis.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Beamer,

I had it on the spreadsheet but then took it off cause I think it can be a bit misleading especially when the IPO shares are being sold.  One day it might say one eps.. but if 1000 more shares are sold the next day it will be divided up further.  Once all the shares are sold it wont be a problem.  (hopefully not too long at this rate)

The formula is:  the dividend / (number of shares sold + 5000 (my shares))

Edit: i'll just put it back up there) Should be up there tonight.
170  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANN] LIF.A and LIF.B, market funds on GLBSE on: September 01, 2011, 04:21:50 PM
Lambert Investment Funds now has a website: LIFunds.com

Dividends were paid today.

Do you know how much it was per share? I can only go so far back in my history, and my history is taken up with dividends I've payed out.  Sad.
171  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why aren't more people buying bitcoins? on: September 01, 2011, 04:37:41 AM
I think more people should move over to the GLBSE and trade there.  I think its gonna be huge, but there is just a small percentage of the bitcoin community that even knows about it or understands what it is.   Trading shares of companies is much more fun than watching the price of bitcoin I think.

We have strongly considered Bitcoin as a payment option and did some testing.
However, we are not convinced that the current Bitcoin system offers enough
privacy to users and the technical implementation of the official client is not
ready for prime time for online stores yet in our oppinion.

We'll keep an eye on it.

Visa, Mastercard and paypal offer more privacy to the consumer?

You should put your company on the GLBSE and distribute shares to raise funds.  I'm sure alot of investors will support you.  I had no idea people were doing such things, I must visit this forum more often.

you mean this (see below)

I hope my suggestion wont be taken as trolling...

how about setting up a company to garner resource for research and selling the end product to the btc community like what you guys are doing here..

except that those that actually buy into the company will either get profit/discount on the product...?

IE...

total dev cost is $5000
total manufacturing cost is $5000

(these are just assumptions.. i'm sure someone can make a better accurate depiction of how to do this...)

so you would sell 10k worth of shares for the first round to buffer for this...
the dev who put in time and money would be covered by the shares representing their hardware cost and dev time...  may be 1/3 of the total shares?
the rest is open for public buy-in...

when boards are sold... the profit is divided upon the shares hold... and distributed among share holders..? if shareholders wants to buy at discount they get a % related to the % of shares they hold...?

just a suggestion... nothing more ...

Yes exactly that.  Something very exciting to invest in.

I wish people would stop making threads about Bruce.

I wish you'd realize that, as the man basically declared himself the Bitcoin Jesus and got the support of everyone here, this is a Big Deal

And posting threads about Bruce and his escapades helps bitcoin how?  The same people making these posts will be the sames creating "why is bitcoin losing value" threads when the media tags bitcoin to "pedophiles".   Lots of haters browse these forums looking for any reason to attack it.  I see bitcoin bashing threads every day on other forums, because people read this forum.  Oh well.

I think it'd be best for Bitcoin if you stepped out of the spotlight for now, and gave others a chance to step up.  We need a chance to diversify and decentralize the Bitcoin "PR department".  Just take a break from your promotional activities for a little while and wait for the air to clear.

+1

Hey guys,

I just updated to final.  the start mining command wont even work and Gui miner only recognizes one card.  If I try other cards it spikes the cpu.

I'm sure this has been answered here.  I've accepted the license. So thats not it.  I tried wading through the posts but there's alot of gibberish there.

Thanks
Mike

Edit: I dont mean gibberish in a bad way.
