663  Bitcoin / Mining / Amd overdrive not reading fan speed - 6950 on: June 21, 2011, 07:54:02 PM
Hey guys, I just got a new Visiontek 6950 in the mail. (actually I have like 3 more that are a little different).  This one has dual fans instead of 1 which is nice and it has a bios switch.

But problem is, when I run AmdOverdrive control it gives me a warning saying that it cant detect fan speed and then disables the fan profile thing.

anyone else have this problem? The other cards seem to work fine.

I'm using linux and I'm kinda new to it.

664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Protest against new moderation rules on: June 21, 2011, 03:26:13 PM
Write in this thread if you think, that moderators are deleting too much with the new rules. New forum rules discourage libertarians, developers and business people, basically anyone who contributes valuable content to the forum. New forum rules attract only kids fresh out of school.

What they wrote in FAQs like "some users here have prickly shells, but we've grown to love them", this is not true anymore. Basically now unusual and insightful opinions can be deleted. And often are deleted, because mods are oversensitive. They promise free speech, but they aren't men of word. There is no free speech here, and no respect for user's time. If you want to have a forum for kids run by kids, go on and keep the current level of deleting posts.

Bitcoin was advertised as libertarian currency. But for some undisclosed reason the owners of this forum changed their minds. Now we are heading towards bitcoin currency regulated by governments and have the bitcoin forum without free speech, which means the whole thing is not libertarian at all.

Quote
The policy to not remove anything worked when the forum was small. Now that we have thousands of posts a day, we can't afford 50% of them being junk. The moderators are now instructed to be less tolerant of low-value posts.

Some guidelines:

1. Free speech - you can say anything as long as it is relevant and presented in a calm and polite manner. Swearing, SHOUTING etc. make your post more likely to be removed.
2. No zero value posts or threads, like "SELL SELL SELL"
3. No pointless or uninteresting threads.
4. No referral code spam
5. No NSFW content
The world would be way worse if people like you ran it. Look outside your window. The only thing keeping another person/neanderthal from jumping into your house and killing you for your belongings is this society that you seem to despise so much. Once again I ask all you ULTRA-Libertines to LOOK OUT SIDE THE WINDOW.

The reason they want to break into your windows and steal all your stuff is because of this society.
665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it a Bitcoin web developer's goal to create ugly website? on: June 21, 2011, 08:07:54 AM
Seriously, there are a few that look decent, but the rest is all crap. We're in 2011, what you guys have was 14 years ago.

The average surfer wants simplicity so they can get what they want fast and easy. They have the attention span of a toddler and want instant gratification.

The most popular website in the world is a white background with a search form and a couple links (google).

Web developers and graphic artists who havent got a clue will complain about simplicity and "ungliness" because those sites that are so popular, probably to pump themselves up and to feel better about not being as successful as those simple ugly websites.

I am a member of a trade org bullien board that has been the same since 1996. No changes to the front end, although backend security has been updated frequently. Its still more popular than the thousands that have been put online since combined. Make much more money from the advertising as well. Its simple, easy to use, lightening fast, and you get your information fast. No clutter. Just nuts and bolts.

Geeks spend a large portion of their time online, so they can appreciate the time and effort someone puts into a fancy site. But geeks are a very small fraction of internet users. Your average surfer doesnt appreciate it. In fact the more fancy and cluttered it is the harder it is to find stuff.

I agree, I think Craigslist is a good example.
666  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone ask Alex Jones if he takes Bitcoin Donations yet? on: June 20, 2011, 09:39:37 PM
won't he think bitcoin is just created by "them"?

Some people on this board already believe this.

Yes he probably will think that, but he also knows that Federal Reserve Notes are created by Them and has no problem taking those. Smiley
667  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone ask Alex Jones if he takes Bitcoin Donations yet? on: June 20, 2011, 09:03:33 PM
I know alot of people either love or hate the guy and I used to listen to him, but don't anymore (I actually have a different view of the future since finding bitcoin).

He does have millions of listeners and if he just started taking donations in bitcoin I think it would help the cause and get the word out.  All of his listeners are libertarian types for the most part.

I just suggest calling and emailing to see if he takes donations.

He's talking about nothing but currency today, so far. I keep trying to call in and talk to him about Bitcoins but I can never get through. I'll keep trying.

His show still on? at this hour? sure its not a repeat?

669  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LinuxCoin A lightweight Debian based OS with everything ready to go. on: June 20, 2011, 04:21:36 AM
Sorry kinda new at this.  Isn't persistent mode supposed to save the things onto your flash drive during your session instead of a total clean slate every time you reboot your computer?  If not then how do i save things to my flash without having them erased.  Thanks I'm pretty new to linux but learning very fast especially with your linuxcoin.

Peace
Mike

I love the bitcoin show but we might have to pitch in to get them some good audio equipment.  Just a room mic would be a huge improvement.

672  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Problem running 2 cards at same time. on: June 19, 2011, 07:35:07 AM
apparently the -f flag was the culprit.  now both cards doing about 330 mhs.  Time for me to go to bed.

Thanks for responding.
673  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Problem running 2 cards at same time. on: June 19, 2011, 06:53:02 AM
Did you specify differing devices?

Um i think so.  My first card is device 0 and my 2nd is device 1.
674  Bitcoin / Mining / Problem running 2 cards at same time. on: June 19, 2011, 06:44:05 AM
I'm using linuxcoin since I'm a newbie into this mining realm.  Anyways I'm running the polcbm (however you spell it) miner.  I have 2 6950's I get about 330 mhs out of them when they run alone, but when I start up my 2nd one (the one the monitor isn't hooked up to).  It will jump around alot going from 330 to 300 to 150 to 250.   But when I stop my first card, it'll just jump up and do steady 330 mh/s.
Any Ideas? I am new to linux but I've learned alot in one day.
Go easy on me.

Thanks
Smiley
675  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Visiontek 6950 - no dual bios switch? on: June 18, 2011, 08:45:53 PM
If it's a 1GB version it doesn't have the switch, regardless of vendor.

Only the 2GB can be unlocked and has the dual BIOS.

Mine is a 2gb and has no switch.  Unless I'm blind. Sad
676  Bitcoin / Mining support / couple newbie questions about mining and linuxcoin. on: June 18, 2011, 08:39:19 PM
Hey guys got my setup going without any hitches.  I have 2 x 6950's and will be running linuxcoin.  I'm totally new to linux and graphics cards in general

1st question.  How do I run the miners?

2nd question? I'm not sure when those null video plugs are needed? I also dont understand when crossfire connectors are needed.  I dont have either right now, will it still work with 2?

Ok thanks, I know most of you are light years ahead of me.  Just the little time i've spent on linux today has me sold for life.
677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Selling bitcoins locally. on: June 18, 2011, 01:53:56 AM
I think its a good idea to try to sell your bitcoins locally instead of on the exchanges.  I put a few on craigslist and sold them to a guy for 20 bucks (the market was 15).  Not only can you make more for your bitcoins (possibly), but you're growing the idea locally and might help the price rise by not clogging up the exchanges with bitcoins.  Smiley

Just my 2 bits.

Get your rear end over to ubitex.org!

Cool thanks. +2

Maybe all the buyers are moving over to trade hill and all the bitcoin sellers are still at good ole mt. gox.
680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $3 jump on: June 17, 2011, 11:13:14 PM

Dark pools, bro.
