82  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Help - 90 BTC stolen - Possible to track down theif? on: September 22, 2011, 07:19:07 AM
What asking him kindly?

He's got them now, if a bitcoin exchnage can't get a user to give back 511BTC that was accidently sent to them I doubt you'll have much luck.

There are many ways that I could possibly recover my bitcoins but the fact is that I need to track down the thief first anyway so there really is no point to going into detail about it here.  Please, if you don't have anything to contribute to my original question then don't post in this thread.

Did you get his name and email from paypal?

Smiley  Ohh...don't mind me..I'm not trying to troll.. but I have a few suggestions...

If that is a cement floor..you should raise them up a bit.  It's too easy for bugs to get in your plants if they can just walk right in the drain holes.

Here's what I would do... get a bunch of wood pallets and lay them on the floor to keep your shit off the ground.  I would also get some of those round plastic 4 foot wide kiddie pools, put that on top of a pallet to raise it off the ground,  and put your plants in there.  Makes it soooo much easier to catch the runoff when you water your girls.  You don't want the water to run onto the floor and create a breeding habitat for bugs and mold.

The roots will even thrive and grow right out of the pot bottoms if you keep a bit of water / hydro solution in the pool.

Put your 600-1kw MH for veg or your HPS for flower on top and you're good to go.  It's kind of a hydroponic / soil hybrid solution that works great!  When you water your plants, most will drain out the holes in the pots at first...but if you leave some in the pool, it will suck it back up to fully moisten the soil.  Water often and make sure the same water don't stay stagnant in the pool for long.

But I don't know anything about this stuff so I'm just guessing.   Smiley

Don't bugs hate tobacco?

87  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Any reason my 890fx GD70 wont start when 3rd card inserted? on: September 22, 2011, 02:23:43 AM
I have 2 of the same mobo.
Not sure the problem with yours...I installed 5 cards all at once, installed drivers and ran it.

Maybe your PSU?  What OS? What driver version? Do you have ALL the MSI drivers installed?

Running linuxcoin.. Doesn't even get to that point though.  Can't enter bios with the 3rd card inserted.  PSU is a 1000w ocz.. I'm running 3 6870's should be more than enough wattage.

I run Win7 but at the initial boot point it shouldn't matter.  Which slots are you using on the mobo?

Hey man just did some switching and swapping still can't figure out whats wrong.  So apparently the third card doesn't even matter.  If the 2nd card isn't in the right slot it wont start either.

I have a card in slot 1.. works.  Slot 3 works.   If I put another card in anything other than slot 3 it will boot up to a black screen with blinking cursor.  Got 2 running but I have another card sitting here and would love to get it running.  I'll never buy one of these motherboards again thats for sure.

Check the manual for the Mobo, do a BIOS reset, try to boot from scratch with all cards installed at the same time (slots 1-3-5).  If that doesn't work RMA the board or call MSI directly and see if the techs can help out.  I have 2 of those same boards and one of my friends has another one...I would say its one of the most widely used mining boards for 4+ GPU setups...you may just have got a bad one.

I will try those things.. Hopefully I don't have to RMI the board, this is the replacement of the first one I RMI'd lol
88  Economy / Speculation / Re: how many of you use https://glbse.com/ on: September 22, 2011, 01:01:18 AM
I have a company on there SMM.  Running pretty smooth so far.  I mine plus invest in new companies on there.  If you plan on starting something just make sure you have a plan.  Its stressful when things go wrong and you have investors waiting on the other end.

I think investing in the GLBSE will both help the bitcoin price and help jumpstart the bitcoin economy giving people with great ideas some funding.  Bitcointorrentz had an IPO for .20 bitcoins a few days ago, it sold out now its almost at 1 btc per share. is that a 400 or 500% gain? Crazy.

Seems to work fine with 2 cards, when I add the 3rd one.. just kinda boots up to a black screen.  No option to enter bios or anything.

I've used 2 cards and mixed and matched them.  I've come to the conclusion its not the cards... I've mixed and matched the Pci-E wires.. they all seem to work.

this has officially been the rig from hell for me.  At least I got 2 cards running right now.

Any ideas?

Just wondering.  How can investors be so sure you have $16k worth of silver somewhere?  How do we know you are not a scammer?
94  Economy / Services / Re: [GLBSE] BitCoinTorrentz.com - Torrent Download Service on: September 20, 2011, 02:16:50 AM
Regarding the fees and IP collection of affiliates, another way to look at it is that it's a 20% fee for the privilege of using the site 100% anonymously, instead of being required to register with an email address and associated IP address.  Obviously that's not a good marketing stance to take, but it's the way I think of it and I think it's entirely justified.

Hadn't thought of it this way... Maybe it should be possible to "delete" and affiliate account (data could be kept, except the ip-address).

I have decided to just go ahead and remove the remove the IP address recording of affiliates. I want this service to be truly anonymous, so if people use the site regularly enough to want a 20% rebate, while simultaneously promoting the site, I'm totally cool with that.

I will delete the IP address table in the affiliates database, and update the affiliate registration code to reflect this. It will be part of the next live update of the site.

And thinking along these lines, it might also be a good idea to introduce a sort of "subscription" service, where regular users of the site could register and get an ID # and a password, and avail of a higher-use, lower-fee based fee structure. Say, if a user downloads a total of 10gb, they would avail of a 20% discount in the future, if they download a total of 100gb they avail of another 20% discount of their current fee, etc.

Or something along those lines. Thoughts?

I've just tried this service for the first time - it seems very very cheap (the price not the quality).

A quick question - are you not worried that once someone has the link they can start distributing it on multiple websites? Perhaps even charging for it themselves? (I initially connected to your website via a VPN from China to the UK as Pirate Bay is blocked here, and then started downloading directly from China)

It's not a problem for me, and it's a great service - it saved me the time of trying several different torrents until I found one that was reasonably fast on my connection.

Edit - and I just realised- this is the first time I've bought anything with bitcoin!

Yes, it is a very modest fee. Right now, the goal is to grow the business, and the best way to do that is to make it as inexpensive as possible. Once we have achieved sufficient volume, prices will determined at a level that the community and the shareholders agree on, and linked to the btc:usd exchange rate.

I have considered the possibility of the scenario you described; that users would redistribute the link. Right now, that isn't really a major concern, as the measures needed to implement an adequate solution would make the service less attractive to potential new users. I will reevaluate this if and when it becomes a problem that puts a large load on the server.

I'm glad to have been the one to pop your bitcoin cherry! Smiley

Would there be away to make the link expire after a certain amount of days? I'm not a programmer so I don't know how hard it would be.

An exchange company is not responsible for regulating its offerings, investing in stocks/shares is risky, and everyone should do their own research before investing in anything?
At various times I've pointed out that Mt. Gox isn't registered as a money-transfer firm in Japan, that Global Standard Bank's isn't a bank and pictures of their offices were Photoshopped images of a building in Seattle and a bank interior in Florida, that Dwolla is run out of a hacker space in Iowa, that Bit-Pay is two guys operating out of a house in Orlando, Florida, and that Bruce Wagner has a mortgage-fraud judgement against him in Illinois.

I get comments like "troll" and "hater" for that. The scammers here have supporters, or at least shills.

Yeah bit-pay is run by 2 guys, so what.  Didn't apple start with 2 guys in a garage or something?  Whats your point here.  Its not like having a huge building and a huge amount of employees makes a company more legit.
97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Largest Bitcoin Scam of Them All? on: September 18, 2011, 11:50:54 PM
If the company is open about its operations I don't see a problem with the GLBSE.

I mine and payout every day to my shareholders so I"m not holding anything extra.   All of the finances are right there on a spreadsheet.

There are alot of shady companies on there but I think it will get better with time. The glbse is something that can help grow bitcoin its an awesome idea.

The fact that you get paid dividends from the earnings of the company blows the "ponzi scheme" argument out the water.

Ok I'll change that, sorry.

As far as keeping your shareholders up to date, you can make a google spreadsheet like I did and shareholders can check in on everything with a link.  It keeps my brain straight and everyone elses.  Here is mine. I update every day, but I'm sure you can update whenever you want.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvdHbho4OHt9dFVTVHFUNFVvNFZyc2E5eERPeFd2Y1E&hl=en_US#gid=0

It's so weird you suggested that.

I was having a look at smokey mountain mining and saw the link to your finances spreadsheet at the top. I thought it would be a good idea to do something similar for my site. Then you suggested it, literally about an hour later.

I love the transparency of it, and your info/comments are so detailed. I especially like the comment on row 25! Smiley
You clearly run a tight ship! Fantastic work.

You update that spreadsheet daily? That seems like a lot of effort. I would prefer to have a financial statistics page integrated into my site directly so that I could automate a lot of the work of adding entries that way, without having to manually edit it every day. I might follow a similar format to yours, but do it via html/php and mysql queries instead.

Interesting...

the only reason i update daily is because I pay out daily. Smiley
