The shares do come with a vote, as stated in the contract, but since I only released 20% of them so far, I still maintain executive control. I am however 100% open to any and all suggestions, from both shareholders and the community at large. I greatly value any input received, and this thread alone has already helped me make several excellent modifications to the site.

With regards to your questions. Yes, I do intend to fully publish numbers. But I am not sure where the best place to do this would be. Here in this thread? On the website itself? Through a transparent stats page open to the public or perhaps only open to shareholders? In a group email to shareholders? I am not sure.

The service has been operational for a bit over a week now, and has generated 2.6961 btc in earnings. My prediction for the first 3 weeks was only 2.1 btc, so we are already exceeding the targets outlined in my business plan by almost 400%.

When I get the news section up and running, I will most likely use that for earnings reports etc. On my to-do list also is the improvement of the referral control panel, to give you details like conversion rate, earnings per click, etc.

And yes, I am completely willing to discuss the pricing. I know what you mean about visitors having to be in the right mood at the right time. I do feel that the price is probably a little high, and bandwidth is easy to come by while bitcoins are not. So to give incentive to use the service, I have a few ideas that I'm juggling around in my head:

  • Start a promotional offer that gives users 50% off downloads under 1gb. This would run for a couple of weeks until a solid user base has been built up.
  • Change the price structure from a static 0.1btc/gb to a sliding scale, reducing the cost for larger torrents.
  • Link the price to a weighted average of btc:usd value, as described above.
  • Give affiliates the ability to issue promotional codes that entitle the user to 1 free download, or else randomly issue them to visitors of the site, which would encourage return traffic

What do you think?

Ok I'll change that, sorry.

As far as keeping your shareholders up to date, you can make a google spreadsheet like I did and shareholders can check in on everything with a link.  It keeps my brain straight and everyone elses.  Here is mine. I update every day, but I'm sure you can update whenever you want.

102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High fashion clothing store in Tarpon Springs, Florida now accepting Bitcoins! on: September 17, 2011, 06:56:21 PM
People accepting Bitcoins would also be handy for the way my wife sometimes sells bikinis.

She will take some of her bikinis with her when she goes to the beach. She usually gets a few people there who want to buy but they either do not have cash or they only have a credit card. Right now she takes her laptop with a credit card reader and a mobile wifi card to run their card.

It would be so easy if both parties could just pull out their cell phones (which everyone has at the beach) and pay.

You could also market mobile changing rooms so they can change on the beach.  Kinda like that circular shower curtin Ralph Macchio wore to that party in Karate Kid one.

Please a briefing on how a transaction goes down in your store.  For example, I was looking at getting this for myself , and I'm coming in, how should I be ready to spend with Bitcoin?   App on phone necessary?

Edit: I thought this was for in store.  Or is it?  Can it be?

You only need a Bitcoin app on your phone. Something like https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mtgoxlive.trader&hl=en

That bikini is available in the store. Just take it up to the counter and my wife will put the price into her merchant app which will convert the dollar total to current BTC price and provide an address and QR code.

You scan the QR code with your app and click "send bitcoins".

And that is it. My wife will get a confirmation within a few seconds and you are all set.

Cool.  My gf might like your store.  Looks like stuff she'd wear.  She doesn't have bitcoins though, I might have her browse and buy something with bitcoins for her in the near future.

Your referral program needs some banners.  Smiley

Yeah, I'm working on the banner thing, but I'm not a graphic designer. So for, I've got:

and

Undecided They need a bit of work...

I am a shareholder.  Do you think it would be possible to share one of your banners, because helping you is helping me.

Cant you just copy the banner to your computer and upload it?

113  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [GLBSE] Shades Minoco Mining Cluster Funds on: September 15, 2011, 08:08:45 PM
I am pleased to announce the opening of the first Shades Minoco Mining Cluster Fund. The way the funds work are simple. The contract will outline the set hardware allocated to this contract. 25 days after IPO, there will be a motion for shareholders to vote on the use of the cluster. Once the vote has passed, 85% of all revenue will be paid out on the 1st of  both March and September as a dividend.
This is a great way to get into the heart of a mining company without all the headache (theres a bunch of headache)

Shares are listed under the ticker SDM.LEVA and are going IPO later today for the low low price of 0.1btc each.

Any questions can be addressed here.

Sale will start at 00:00 in 6 hours from this post. Get them while they are hot! Depending how well this works out, I have 4 other setups like this and parts for about 5 more coming so there could be funds LEVB, C, D, E and so on.

Looks good.  You're right mining is a headache.  It takes alot of attention especially if other people are depending on it.  I don't have a life anymore.   Angry   ... its all good though.
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Stupidly moved wallet.dat while bitocin was still running {not fixed!) on: September 14, 2011, 11:23:59 PM
Think I got it.. blockchain downloading with no problems so far.  I deleted everything and tried again.  Thanks guys.
115  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much money will mtgox need for the trial? on: September 14, 2011, 08:03:41 PM
It seems that now all mtgox fees are in BTC - so to cover the costs they need to dump some of them in the market.  The trial then can have a strong impact on the market.  In both ways - because if they win the trial - then possibly the costs will be payed back for them by the losing side (anyone from France can confirm that?  I know in the USA this is not the case - but this is Europe).

mtgox fees are in whatever currency you are getting.  Buying BTC?  Fee is BTC.  Buying dollars (aka, selling BTC)?  Fee is dollars.

Also, MagicalTux has stated at least a few times that they don't ever buy or sell BTC because people would assume they are abusing their position.  Instead, they save their BTC to use on things like bailing out bitomat.

So how do they produce cash flow for their operation if they don't exchange btc for dollars?

Maybe they cash out using another exchange?

Don't they take a percentage from both sides of the trade?
116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Stupidly moved wallet.dat while bitocin was still running {not fixed!) on: September 14, 2011, 06:45:47 PM
Didn't realize bitcoin was running in the bottom right corner and I moved my wallet.dat.

I tried reinstalling bitocin and putting the wallet back but still getting errors. Exception 11dbException  db:get: not enough space.

even though bitcoin is closed now this message still keeps popping up.

I only have like 3 bitcoins on there but would still like to not lose them.

I will be more careful next time.

EDIT: I uninstalled bitcoin, rebooted, then reinstalled it. Now I cant even get it to start up.  I get all kinds of errors.

I'm running windows 7.

Fixed it.  When uninstalling bitcoin it wasn't deleting the original files.  So I did it manually and reinstalled.  Seems to be working now.

I got to a point in the blockchain and it says.

It says Error loading blkindex.dat help. Bitcoin will not start.
117  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Another 890FXA-GD70 problem? on: September 14, 2011, 04:27:31 PM
Turns out its the CPU.  I switched one of my old cpus and it booted up just fine.

Just making sure.  The 890FXA-gd70 is compatible with the sempron 145 right? I tested it with the 140 and it works.  The AM3b socket mean anything?

Actually relieved that its just the chip.

Thanks
Mike

Do you have another board to try the CPU in?  I think you just narrowed it down to either that or the PSU.

Yeah I will have to try that.  Just scared to stop my other miners and interchange pieces cause I don't want to screw anything up.  bahhhh
