241  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: January 25, 2015, 08:34:15 PM
To be honest, I didn't even notice the ad until I read this last page.  I had to go back to the OP specifically for it...and I have used the OP a few times (at one point I spent an hour looking at the various linked threads).

I don't see it as a big issue and have voted accordingly.

Ha, that says something about how much the ad might be worth to potential purchasers too.

When you say you don't see it as a big issue and have vote accordingly, that sounds like a vote for "i don't care".  But it seems a little ambiguos.  English is famous for a thing sometimes called "negative raising" where people say things like:

I don't think she should do that.

And they mean:

I think that she shouldn't do that.

So by this pattern, it's entirely clear whether you mean "I see it as not a big deal."  Or "I don't see it as a big deal".  If you catch my drift.

I understand your point but I intentionally did not weigh in with my opinion on what he should do and why he should do it regarding his thread and whether or not I think that his status as a Staff member should matter.  I was Staff for a very large News site for over five years and a recurrent theme was whether or not Site Guidelines should apply to Staff - "Can they post with opinions and not have it reflect on official stance of the Site" kind of stuff.  Staff members should have the freedom to do what other members are allowed.

I kind of agree with your point on potential purchasers...it is one of my biggest concerns regarding the effectiveness of these campaigns in general, especially for small campaigns. I have twice extended my participation in a closed campaign for free because they were small and cool but closed soon after they started due to no discernible difference...
242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MangoCoinz Official ANN Thread - Mine cryptocurrencies on you smart phone on: January 25, 2015, 08:26:38 PM
Hi, can you make the option to hide notification mining mangocoinz? If there are option to do that, I can install this application at all my family phone without they notice  Grin
You are evil!  Wink
Let open our mind. Every one in our family have smartphone. If we use all of that to mining we can get lots og mango.  Grin

this is a bad idea.

It is a bad idea...before we even get into the idea of co-opting someone else's phone without their knowledge...

Why not ask them and respect the decision either way?
243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 25, 2015, 12:31:47 PM
I did the same...I explained the coin and linked to relevant posts.  Might tweet Big Vern too for the neck of it...

Mr. Spread? When do you open masternode test net???
----------------------------------------------------------------
Mr. Spread, what about ETA on masternodes? You said you gonna release them in the middle of january.
I think I said that it will be in the second half of the January and then specified it to be the end of the January. This will be testing on testnet, depending on how well it will work out we will decide when it is ready for mainnet.

Meanwhile spreadcointalk.org is working, it is operated by georgem. Not everything is ready yet, feel free to leave suggestions about how it can be improved.
245  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 25, 2015, 04:05:22 AM
Nice decrease in price.  I saw the one post referencing support in the 40's last night while I was at work (couldn't do anything even if I wanted) and sure enough here we are.  I feel like I missed an opportunity...but realistically, the volume is low enough that there is little resistance back to the 60's.

Will be interesting to see what the MN's bring...

247  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 'Designer babies' debate should start, scientists say on: January 25, 2015, 03:29:18 AM
Other than talking about who would be able to afford them I would love to hear people's opinions on the creation of these "Designer Babies" what do you guys think about it?

i ve think about this idea... hmmm... if i can design my baby  to be smart like a rocket scientist, handsome/beautiful like a top model, and strong like a marathon runner and prime health condition with minimal chances of deadly illness. this will insure his future (and good investment for me).
the most expensive part maybe the start of this, that you need to create so many design and confirming to which design actually good and which are not.  and surely this idea is not for everyone.

But then is that morally correct? Bringing in another human being so they can benifit you? Kind of like a free (Freedom) based form of slavery isnt it? (As an investment to you)

thats why i said that this is not for everyone, even the idea of it will make religious ppl uneasy.

btw its not a slavery... giving your baby a better chances is not a slavery  Cheesy

No Tongue What I meant was the idea of essentially owning someone for a period of time only because they can be considered an investment to your future sounds a little like slaver no? xD

I don't think that he meant it in that fashion.

Raising a child is considered an investment in time and money and it is normal for one to want the best for your child after all of that time and energy...

248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MangoCoinz Official ANN Thread - Mine cryptocurrencies on you smart phone on: January 24, 2015, 04:07:28 AM
Updated and synced successfully.  I also noticed that the app no longer requires any permissions from the phone to operate...that is awesome and thank you for that!
249  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 23, 2015, 11:37:41 PM
new update for the spreacointalk forum:

in the top right menu bar you will find the real time (1 min) price of SPR and its daily volume.

Enjoy.

PS at the moment it is obviously only gathering bittrex data, but I will adjust that the more exchanges we get.
AWESOME!!
Can you also add the auto updating thread pages like darkcointalk?

thanks!

I am not sure what you mean with "auto updating thread pages"...

It means new posts are added to the thread without the need for a refresh...I think...
250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: January 23, 2015, 06:43:40 PM

Hey KeyJockey, once you bought the coins on poloniex or masterxchange you can withdraw them to your own bitcoin address. Preferably the same one in which you're already holding coins.

Thanks for reply... okay, so I did that and it seems to have worked: 25000 balance shows on Omni for my MaidSafe now, cool.

However something strange too... I have on that address also 1.0 BTC but now the bitcoin balance is also showing an extra transaction that put 0.00000547 there? What is that for?

It's kinda annoying just because I've tried to keep only "whole bitcoin" transactions and balance on that address, so now that's been goofed up by this weird 547 satoshis dropped there.

Can I send them out of that address to "clean up" that balance again OR do they have to stay there for MaidSafeCoins for some reason?

Have to say, also, this stuff isn't very smooth at the moment, very confusing and I HOPE that once the actual SAFE Network is released that all these user-experience and interface issues will be improved...

Currently, Maidsafe coin need to be sent with a small amount of BTC in order to travel between wallets.  The BTC can be spent with no risk to your Maidsafe once they are in your wallet though so you can clean up your balance.

Safecoin will have a dramatically better user experience...right now, it's a Mastercoin asset...
251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE][ANN][KOBO] Kobocoin - Nigeria and West Africa's first micropayment system on: January 23, 2015, 08:18:10 AM
He wasn't talking about Kobo directly but Gates referenced the idea of this coin.  I hope you guys are serious...

Thanks. Very interesting! And we're not going anywhere. We have very long term plans. We also have immediate developments that we hope to get out not too long after launch (within the first 3 months). We have a continuous development plan. We intend to make a flying start and make it hard for others to catch up.

Excellent to hear....looking forward...: )
252  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-01-23] Winklevoss Twins Aim to Take Bitcoin Mainstream With a Regulated Ex on: January 23, 2015, 06:23:51 AM
Interesting.  Nice to see that they are still proactive but...

Quote
“Our philosophy is to ask for permission, not forgiveness,” Cameron Winklevoss said.

...seems antithetical.  I kind of don't really think that their efforts won't bring a price rally and future confidence but I wonder what the price of that price will be...

Interesting times...

The official update from skycoin is lost, wait to the new one.

Still looking forward to this one...he announces a launch and then goes back into dev mode inherently postponing the launch.  So completely different from the usual...-lolz-

255  Other / Meta / Re: looks like a few posts were deleted... on: January 23, 2015, 05:55:04 AM
Can confirm some posts are gone...I feel that there is no point in pushing it though.

Finally! The forum is back up! So, who knew to go to spreadcointalk.org to discuss?

I refreshed it like BTCTalk...wasn't the same though...Wink

I imagine traffic will pick up in a few months...
I hope so.

Off topic: Have you used that binary option website in your personal text area at all?

I messed with it for a little bit and then stopped.  It needs a lot of attention.  It's not something that I am worried about; security wise for small amounts; basics work but I wouldn't go heavy at the moment.  I would prefer a better UI...but that is kind of a theme in this area of the internet these days for small start-ups.  Not bad peeps though...

I actually have higher esteem for a previous sig campaign that had some pretty user unfriendly hiccups...Coinut...I just like their idea better but the wallet system is egregious...

Want one of these or do you wanna steer clear of it and taking your chances? Or, if you're like me not want any children at all?

I think that the population has demonstrated a decided lack of consensus on how best to nurture an individual from birth to adulthood...in many cases allowing for the media and rhetoric to stand in place of considered instruction.  I don't see that changing if we can select specific genetic traits and as such I think that we will probably end up with a ton of self entitled mal contents who were told from birth that they were supposed to be great.

Remember, the baby boomers have yet to relinquish their jobs and majority of assets which has proven to be an economic hurdle to success for x and millennials...there are very substantial reasons why there is inequality even before we look at education and culture (I use the latter term loosely regarding the US, unfortunately).  Designer people are just going to be another scapegoat and illusory ideal.

Fun times ahead...I envision rolling my eyes at the debates of the future...: )
259  Economy / Speculation / Re: "Bearwhale" doesn't exist on: January 21, 2015, 07:24:35 AM
Bearwhale is an urban legend. What you see is the normal free market. No manipulation to the downside just the impact of the new mined coins being dumped every day.

If there was manipulation in the market it has always only been to the upside.

I dismiss the bearwhale-theory as an urban legend.

It's not a theory.

It was a meme inspired by a very real (and documented) 30,000 BTC sell wall that was put up several months ago.  The community bought it up and the meme was born.

It doesn't need to happen every time there is a price movement down for the occurrence to have been real.  With all due respect, I think that you are posting this in an effort to 'dare' it to happen again.  Unfortunately, that is not how the market works.

On a side note...despite the fact that we have the internet and can reference the occurrence in detail...I do think that it could become an urban legend at some point in the future.  That really depends on where BTC goes...because the story is cool and won't not ever be cool.
260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XST] Stealth-Coin.com | Tor | StealthText | BlockNet | PoD 5+ on: January 21, 2015, 04:44:57 AM
Yes
New wallet is already out in Beta. The next releasing is 3D tile wallet, web wallet, and new official forums. This should be done in 2weeks. Also join Stealthcoin Slack if you want the up to date and deep discussion.

It's kind of cool to see some of the coins from the 'ALT Coin Summer' start to move towards more official and pseudo proprietary avenues of communications (which means not just BTCTalk).

Looking forward to the new forums and the new developments...
