Thanks Zepher and defcon for the kind words!

And you gotta use a laser!  Can you burn the private key with a laser in the middle of the coin and then cover with a hologram? Smiley
You mean laser engraving the private key into the coin? Not sure if I'm able to do that though :/
I don't think letting a mint doing that would be secure enough and I don't have any equipment for it Tongue

Don't laser etch or engrave, it can be revealed with a cheap x-ray that some pawn shops use.  Since packages are also imaged in transit at various locations, it might be compromised enroute.
Should be fine if the minted coin has a circular cavity, then you use a separate round (same metal) insert with the laser printed priv. key facing into cavity with hologram over it.  Want to get fancy, make both threaded and "screw" the private key in.  The hologram can have foil underneath to further conceal from xray...

I would recommend not spending a lot on costly fancy packaging etc.... Quality is much more important in the long run.

to convert numbers into letter via excel: =MID("ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ",CELL_COORDINATE,1)
maybe now we can solve an equation where we know input plus x = the sum?
wish I had more time today to spend on this.
what's interesting is that there are no values above 25.  so the numbers are the result of a mod/base formula or a simple English alphabet translation and the phrase does not have a letter "z" in it etc...

412  Economy / Collectibles / Re: BTCC minted Bitcoin. Red case rarer than Black? on: June 21, 2016, 07:28:18 PM
I disagree about cases being worthless. I know my 10 BTC Casascius Coins came in airtites as well as display boxes. The thought that somebody would prefer them to be in a cheap slab graded by a company notorious for being awful at grading coins is laughable to me.
It is a personal preference for some people but in the numismatic field the cases are worthless you can call up a coin dealer and get a truckload of whatever mint cases.  When NGC starts grading or slabbing them (working on it!) you won't have same opinion perhaps as you do about ANACS (I don't value their grades either Smiley )
413  Economy / Collectibles / Re: BTCC minted Bitcoin. Red case rarer than Black? on: June 21, 2016, 05:29:21 PM
Cases are worthless when it comes to coin collecting.  For example, if we talk about coins from US mint, when dealers/seller order a batch, they send the coins in capsules for grading and they dump the cases.  They throw them out or sell them for a buck or two if they want the hassle of that.
The only way to protect and value your physical btc coins is to get them slabbed/graded, in a long run, collectors don't care about what case it came in.  Besides, you can always look up the addy on the block explorer to determine when the coin is from.

Have you ever seen the case for the 2009 gold eagle relief coin? It's a beautiful case and I care about mine.
It's a beautiful paperweight

418  Economy / Collectibles / Re: BTCC announces Titanium physical bitcoins on: June 17, 2016, 03:34:42 PM
We just announced our new, extra large size, Five Bitcoin.  I'll post a new thread with photos...

At the same time, we released some more existing inventory of the One Bitcoin for sale, so that people can have a choice, and not feel like you're compelled to buy the much more expensive Five Bitcoin.  Just to be clear, these coins that are back in stock are NOT from returns, but rather we released inventory previously held back for our employees and investors. (We will produce more in our next production run for them.)

Enjoy!

thanks,
Bobby

Very nice.
So, umm, estimated number of 5BTC coins going to be produced?  Price?
And, more importantly, are you going to allow USA purchases? -- It's been difficult for many of us to get them.

For this series of the Five Bitcoin (meaning the 2-star, 2016 V Series in Titanium), we will only make a maximum of 500 coins total, regardless of sets and packaging.  We will limit the 5-coin set to 21 units only.

As for USA purchases, we are really in a tough position.  Obviously, I understand the demand from the USA.  However, our repeated research tells us that unless we have a full set of money transmitter licenses for the USA, we cannot sell and ship physical bitcoins into the USA market.  So it's not a matter of personal preference at this point, but rather a matter of legality and compliance with the law.

If any of you can help us with better or more accurate information on this matter, or good work-arounds, we would love to hear from you.
(Any lawyers out there who can give us a better and more definitive answer?)

In the mean time, I'm sure there will be USA access to secondary markets.
Unfortunately, that's the best answer I can give you at this moment.

thanks,
Bobby

I have a suggestion for your next production runs.  Would you consider utilizing "coin turn" alignment please?  That is, when you are looking at obverse and flip the coin, you don't need to rotate it...  it's common when using dies to stamp blanks, but I don't know if these are stamped, cast or milled.  regardless, it's something to consider
419  Economy / Collectibles / Re: BTCC announces Titanium physical bitcoins on: June 15, 2016, 04:07:52 PM
I got really lucky. BTCC also listed my coin with the full value but I didn't get charged with VATs at all. I guess it slipped through customs  Undecided. I still don't like their solution of giving a discount on a future purchase. That forces you to buy a new product instead of fixing their fault. A huge company like BTCC could easily refund the select people that were overcharged with VATs and still make a decent profit. Handling issues like this in a professional matter is also great advertisement and could increase their sales.
Let's see what they do..
