Well, when you have every little things merged and lined up, why keeping them splitting all the time, for fun?
split and merge base function is to adapt amount of competing coin pile in network to the POS difficulty
if the diff is to low coin pile POS easy and fast and will split which increase com petion and raid difficulty
if diff is high coin pile get older and start to merge when POS with high coin age and below mergetreshhold size
merge means less coin pile compete and POS difficulty lowering
to make this work correct the merge treshhold have to be just processed after a certain coinage
at DMD for example coin pile can just merge if above 30 days coin age
XMG have much faster POS cycle so i guess like 2-3 days would be ok to start allow merge coin pile
what i explain here is the intention of the original POS engine split and merge mechanic
if and how joe will adapt it in XMG we will see
until yet his answers looks like he see it just as dust prevention and not the added value to have a healthy POS difficulty
