181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there anyway to make my bitcore wallet update faster? on: May 16, 2016, 10:55:10 PM
correct section would be technical support.

if you can't afford to download the whole blockchain, use SPV clients like electrum instead. you can sweep or import your private keys so that you can spend your bitcoins right away without having to wait for core to fully sync.

you can also try bootstraping, but I don't know any up to date and trusted bootstrap.dat source.
182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Secret Information via Blockchain? on: May 16, 2016, 09:26:50 PM
as said above by odolvlobo and unamis76. but I think that's kind of impractical because Bob would have to know the transaction hash or having the transaction sent to his address. might as well go without the blockchain.

oh. and the "secret" letter can be seen by anyone that have the transaction hash. forever.
183  Other / New forum software / Re: Can't seem to get into the new forum on: May 16, 2016, 02:17:12 PM
I tried resetting my password to get into the new beta forum, but it didn't seem to work. I never received a confirmation email.

Is anyone else experiencing similar problems, or is it just me?

not just you. I didn't get any email and I requested it around a month ago.
it's not the email I registered with, btw.

Can you guys pm me your emails?

done.
184  Economy / Lending / Re: [L4L] 3 BTC Loan 120+% Collateral available. 3.5 btc return. on: May 15, 2016, 09:36:36 PM
"Collateral is something that can easily be resold to cover the loan value plus interest should the loaner default on the loan."
"Some digital wares such as domain names can be considered as long as the user cannot recover it."

This meets both requirements. It can be resold to cover loan value plus interest.
And I cant recover it, Which is why Im Providing The Account AND its associated email address.

ctrl+f steam there.

Quote
- Most valuable online accounts can easily be recovered by social engineering (the user contacting support to say they were hacked, and regain control of the account)  Examples:  Steam
185  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a .02 BTC loan on: May 13, 2016, 09:39:19 PM
Loan Amount: 0.02 BTC
Collateral: I can paypal gift you the value of the loan up front?  Any other ideas are welcome.
Length of time: 10 days

Thanks!

just sell the paypal gift for btc. same risks, less hassle. paypal is not a valid collateral.
186  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos Help a girl out my Bitcoin Talk account has been Hacked!!! on: May 12, 2016, 04:27:26 PM
Unfortunately I do not have access to any bitcoin addresses I have posted..

how about the address 1JzPZ5cyuLnxxk3WtXBNESpMPbnN2RisjE ? it was on cassieheart's signature for almost 2 years from March 31, 2014 to January 29, 2016 (plus the twitter @Cassie Heart.).
187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Theymos: “Bitcoins Belonging to Satoshi Should Be Destroyed” on: May 11, 2016, 09:31:46 PM
theymos actually is proposing ALL lost coins to be destroyed after a certain amount of time to prevent anyone from getting hold of those bitcoins at the future and dump them for dollars. I'm not entirely sure if this would be a good move, however. (edit: leaning to "no" after reading some of the replies below.)

if they're going to do it. make the second soft-fork to trigger in 10 years or even 15 or 20. five years are not long enough to make sure that everyone is protected (IMO).
188  Economy / Reputation / Re: Evildrum and his multiple personalities on: May 10, 2016, 09:12:45 PM
eh.. what is this? what's with the multiple personalities thing?

edit:
oh. I get it now. it's a sarcastic thread.  Tongue
189  Other / Meta / Re: Whats wrong with this post? on: May 10, 2016, 02:31:41 PM
seems to work fine here... no stray BBcode tags when I previewed it.
Try posting it, pre viewing works fine here aswell, but once you post the whole thing, you get an INVALID BBCODE error.

I did a test and for me it works.
I made a fixed version here http://pastebin.com/umU2XDSP
Same goes for you, can you post the whole thing in that case, please?

yep. got that error. weird stuff.  Huh

194  Other / Meta / Re: How do i change my avatar? on: May 08, 2016, 08:59:38 PM
Okay thanks.

I hope I can get 20 activity by the end of the 10th for a competition :/ hope I can do it

it's 120 and you'll need to posts in at least 7 activity periods more before you can reach it. 1 activity period is 2 weeks so that means you'll need to wait 14 weeks before you can get an avatar.
195  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why takes so long to download block chain ? on: May 08, 2016, 07:48:05 PM
[size= 11pt][color=blue ]I know it's 60GB it says so in the start I'm not an idiot only I sent some coins from my online wallet to my core wallet address.
And I can't spend it at least not till my wallet is 100% synced with network, I wanted to know if there are any way to spend them and since I already downloaded 30GB not going just to drop Smiley[/color][/size]

download a light-wallet (I recommend electrum) and import/sweep the private key of your bitcoin address. then you'll be able to spend bitcoins without having to download the block chain.

So if you sent bitcoins to your bitcoin core wallet you could just pull them into Electrum without the need for a full sync?

Thanks

yes. or just don't use bitcoin core in the first place if you don't want to download 60GB+ of data.

That seems to have worked. Cheers. Is there any reason why it says [unconfirmed]? Please feel free to point me in the direction of newbie bitcoin tutorial apologies Smiley

if you used the sweep feature on electrum, it means the transaction between the address which private keys you sweeped and your newly generated address are still unconfirmed.
sweeping transfers bitcoins to a new address. importing lets you use the old address (although it's not possible to import private key on standard electrum wallet.)

btw create a new thread if you have further questions. we're getting a bit off-topic here.
196  Other / Off-topic / Re: I spent all my saving on bitcoin, now i am broke on: May 08, 2016, 07:36:48 PM
better hope that none of the users here live near your house and recognize the fountain. you basically just announced where you hid your private keys to everyone.
197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the proofs Dave Kleiman isn't Satoshi ? on: May 08, 2016, 07:01:12 PM
what's the proofs that he is satoshi?
198  Other / Meta / Re: (Sounds like) Ban Evasion to me... What do you think? on: May 08, 2016, 06:40:59 PM
What did tptb get banned for?  His posts are constructive,  if extremely numerous.   Kinda like gleb gamow and a few others.

most likely because he posted multiple identical posts, on multiple threads, multiple times (like this, this, this, this, and this.).

So basically spam, right ?

yep.
199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if Satoshi Returned ? on: May 08, 2016, 06:32:48 PM
FUDsters would go full throttle, using satoshi's suspected wealth as their weapon. some people would refuse to believe him/her and starts asking questions. and the traders might go to panic mode.
one thing for sure, the community will be thrown into uproar.
