Any thoughts towards eventually making trezor condoms? Basically a device for merchants that will shield them from the risk that the usb device that a customers is plugging into their system isn't actually a trezor.

Today was the day to renew my VPN subscription. I used to pay for it with bitcoin but I dont have any bitcoin any more. So I was weighing to use a credit card or go through the hassle of converting some XMR on an exchange just to pay 60 bucks when low and behold I see Monero is accepted! I expected that I could go searching for a vpn that accepts monero and find it but I didn't expect to go and look at the one that I'm already using and see it as an accepted payment method.

Anyway AIRVpn is highly recommended by me. Ill edit back later on how smoothly the Monero transaction goes. Excited to make my first real purchase.

*edit* So the transaction was fast and easy and pretty straitforward. It was only a little confusing because their own interface had something called a transaction ID so basically it provided 2 different transaction ID's on the check out. I deployed a little bit of common sense to make an educated guess as to which one was the transaction ID that I needed to enter into my client and which one I just needed to keep for my records. I guessed correctly.

And why did you answer the question I asked aminorex?

I do that all the time. Is it taboo? Huh Lips sealed

I don't think so, we are a community of friends who all help out. Nothing wrong with that.

Thanks guys, I was indeed just answering in an effort to help.  I hope we will all continue to do so - many people on here have helped me out before and I really appreciated it.

What goes around...

Who flagged my post and got it deleted? And why? Anyone else having perfectly innocuous posts deleted by mods? Very strange.
1044  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: November 04, 2017, 01:57:26 AM
It's a mystery to me. Why is IOTA not listed on more exchange. The coin has existed for over six months now and it had been in the top 10 for most of the time. Exchanges should queue in a row to list IOTA.  Huh

Lack of easy access wallet and lack of developers taking the time to integrate the coin.

I would also add that the general public at large does not understand how to enter the space of crypto currency. Many still believe it's all an MLM & do not understand the technology behind it which prohibits them from seeing the upside. Which in turn puts absolutely no pressure on exchanges to hurry and adopt IOTA.

Lack of demand = lack of supply.

It is the same with every crypto that is developed from fresh new codebase. They have to learn a whole new api vs the simple plug and play of a copycoin. It took forever with Monero and NXT as well.
1045  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: November 04, 2017, 01:50:25 AM
And let's not argue why PoS is a security nightmare.

Whaaat? This is news to me. I would very much like to argue about this. It's true that peercoins model was deeply flawed. But NXT, at least conceptually, solved all of those problems (if it had been bootstrapped with a better distribution). At least I think it did, I wouldn't want to claim that I'm beyond reproach. Of course you said you didn't want to argue about it so the ball is in your court on that one. I certainly cant force you and I wont try.
1046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: November 02, 2017, 11:56:05 PM
I'd like to get into iota for the long term (as well as walton).
What do you think is a good entry price?
Thx

I wouldnt do it by price. I mean who the heck knows what the right price for any of this stuff is? Whats the fair value of unicorn hair measured in pixie farts? I would look at the reason why the alt coin market is doing so poorly. Namely the bitcoin segwit2x fork coming up. I think thats supposed to be on the 15th or 16th. It is reasonable to expect a reversal in the altcoin market after the 15th or 16th. I would buy a little bit before then. Maybe the 13th or 14th.

MoneroForCash.com has been redesigned and updated

Hello Monerians - I'm the admin for MoneroForCash.com. MoneroForCash has been serving the Monero community since August of 2016. Although the site enabled buyers and sellers to trade Monero for cash, Money Orders, gift cards, etc., the site had a dated appearance and limited features.

Reddit user /u/tficharmers (https://www.reddit.com/user/tficharmers) has graciously designed and donated an updated user interface for the site, and like before, no JavaScript is used, nor are traceable Ads or analytics. It's responsive and looks as good on your mobile as it does on your laptop.

In addition to the updated design, the site now lets you set your Monero/fiat exchange rate to your desired fiat currency, and we also have added the ability to rate trades.

And, as before, user funds are never stored on our site so it's impossible for us to steal your funds. Even if our site is hacked, your funds are safe since all trading is peer-to-peer. Additionally, we can't absolutely determine that you and another party completed a trade as a result of advertising on our site because we're not privy to any transaction details between users.

Check out our new site, and buy/sell Monero for cash or other assets.

https://moneroForCash.com

Very nice looking site, too bad Us gov is tracking down sellers, I.E Localbitcoins. I doubt it won't be long before we see the same on the Monero side as well.

Could use precious metals as an intermediary for P2P exchanges.

  • You purchasse precious metals on a website with your credit card or w/e payment method. Put my P.O. box as the destination.
  • Send me the order and tracking information.
  • I release the monero.
  • The metals arrive and I sell them on craigslist for a small additional profit.

Side steps the criminal banking system and also avoids the problems with cash in the mail (which is always assumed to be drug money). Does anyone know any other way to get fiat from P2P without going through the banking system and without sending off big red flags in the post office?

hacking a TREZOR by downgrading the firmware to a vulnerable version? is it possible as the article described?

What a great read. Thanks for the share!
1049  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 31, 2017, 04:44:09 PM
My investment I made 5 weeks back will have halved by next week, I had a lot of faith in this coin seems when the hype moves to the next one it slowly bleeds out.  Embarrassed

6 weeks ago Monero was $94 and now is $89.  I am sure you will get profit quite soon and you can buy something else with your Monero.   Good for you you did not bought few months ago when price went over $150. But even if you would buy back then with patience you would get profit. It was so in past and it will be so in future.

If you get impatient when you have less then 10% loss, crypto is definitely not for you!!

Great quote.

Yea I like that a lot. I think that covers about 50% of the equation. The other half is not being greedy. It isn't how much you make on the way up that is important but rather how much you can keep on the way back down. Anyone can ride a bull market and feel like a jeanyus, its the people who are still significantly better off after the subsequent bear market that are the only true winners.
1050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 30, 2017, 06:57:48 PM

Ripple, Vertcoin and even Doge have larger communities than Monero! ouch.

Privacy peeps don't do Facebook? Who knew?

Haha I can confirm that I definitely do not have a facebook.

MONERO CLASSIC IS JUST LIKE MONERO COIN AND IT IS ANOTHER DIGITAL CURRENCY ON ETHEREUM BLOCK CHAIN FOR FAST TRASNACTIONS

OMG its the same as the forum scammers, cant Theymos just put a stop to outright lies?

Anyone who falls for a scam that obvious deserves it anyway. I'm sorry but they just do. A little bit of Darwinism is a good thing.

I have done a long, deep and intensive research over days and weeks just in case to diversify a small part of my investments into potential interesting projects/coins. Beside ETH (which wont make any really big gains any more) and XMR I only could find IOTA interesting, while still very experimental. Everything else is damn useless bullshit I would never put a cent in. Even BTC is a bad joke from fork to fork it is becoming just an expensive, overvalued and slow altcoin with no special features.

Simply happy to be invested in XMR.

I did the same research and came to exactly the same conclusion. BTC, XMR, ETH and IOTA are the only ones that are interesting and XMR and IOTA are the only two that I currently have skin in.

Although I do have my eye on a future project as well https://www.metronome.io/ Blockchain agnostic, worlds first 1000 year crypto currency. It's got a good "story". It's a catchy pitch.

Brief look at MTN and looks like a bad joke to me. From the "owner's manual":
Quote
Some cryptocurrencies' mintage is either static or goes to zero over time – like Bitcoin1 and Litecoin2 – raising questions with economists about their long term viability. Other cryptocurrencies’ token supply is hand-stitched together in pre-ICO deals that award certain parties a vast amount of supply, resulting in those parties controlling the majority of tokens.3 Some cryptocurrencies sell out to certain parties in a pre-sale, leaving very little to the general public. Metronome attempts to fix those problems with daily auctions that provide an on-going token supply mintage, ad infinitum. An ongoing token supply mintage is theorized to provide sustainability versus other cryptocurrencies whose mintage either is or goes to zero.
They're taking a 20% premine and lord knows how many of their own ICO tokens their going to "buy" up in the presale.

From the table at the end:
Quote
BTC is famous for its contentious forks and deflationary nature. Token supply and issuance is stable, but infinite.
Garzik is a key character pushing the latest and most contentious fork. And how the fuck is MTN supposed to magically be above contentious changes to the code? Code is law? How did that work out for Ethereum.

Sorry, but I just don't see it. Looks like shit token that Garzik is trying to hype by leveraging the chaos that he has a hand elbow-deep in wrt Bitcoin.

Thanks for the perspective. I can't say that I disagree with any of it. In addition to the problems you mentioned the 2% annual inflation rate makes me throw up in my mouth a little. But it's still an interesting idea and an idea that, now that its out there in the memespace, is probably going to end up attracting a lot of capital in one form or another by the time its all said and done. My thinking is that maybe MTN will end up being the Bytecoin to cryptonotes Monero but first mover advantage is a powerful thing and probably shouldn't be dismissed lightly. Much thinking yet to be done. In the end its not really about principles. It's about making money and the flaws that you mentioned dont make it obvious that there wont be significant opportunity to do so.

Hello all!
I use Monero for my business!
For privacy reasons, it should be better to have the integrated address totally different for each time I generate a new one. Not only the end of the address changing. Do you guys know if there is some development plan to do that in the future?
Anyone want hire my services, just send a pm Wink

Here it is https://lab.getmonero.org/pubs/MRL-0006.pdf Coming soon.

Anonymous No More? Monero Exploit Reveals User Identities to Hackers

The researcher, Anthony Russell, says that he can actually locate Monero users through transaction broadcasts.

When users open up their Monero wallets, they connect to the peer-to-peer network, which allows users to then connect to individual wallets.

According to Russell, If the users of those wallets aren’t using TOR or I2P, you can easily determine their IPs.

One potential problem with this method is that it doesn’t necessarily differentiate between server nodes and peers. However, Russell says that this can be overcome by doing a simple whois search............

https://bitsonline.com/monero-exploit-threatens-privacy/

No shit. This is why kovi is under development... Until kovi development is complete, if you really care about privacy, than you need to broadcast your transactions from behind a vpn or tor. This shouldn't be "news" to anyone who knows anything about this project.  Something that everyone always knew or should have known spun as news. Smells like someone with an agenda spreading fud. Wankalone should take notes I guess. This is how it is done.

Kovri isn't needed to address what is being reported as an alleged 'vulnerability' (and mostly doesn't). The IP addresses of nodes on a p2p network are public and you can get them explicitly using print_cn or print_pl in the daemon or netstat (or even see geolocated addresses on a node map). These addresses by themselves tell you nothing about users or transactions.

Even if not transmitting your txs over Tor, VPN, i2p, etc. it is still very difficult for anyone other than your ISP or someone spying directly on your network connection to determine that a transaction originated at a particular node. It could possibly be done with a massive sybil attack on the network, and even then would be unreliable.

I disagree with this a bit. True you cant just look at an ip address and know who it is. But neither can one do this with a bitcoin address. Bitcoin addresses change frequently and are not tied in any way to any geographical data yet attackers use analysis techniques to identify bitcoin users quite trivially. Using similar techniques it should be even easier to uncover real identities using ip addresses than bitcoin addresses. Thus it is reasonable to assume that a compromised ip equals a compromised identity to anyone who cares enough to spend a little time and or money to suss it out.

Actually I bought just a little more.

9 more red candles?

LOL.  I have no idea if I am brave, a fool, or a brave fool.

Better to cut yourself on a falling knife than buy at the top. Which is what most people seem to do.

down to .31 usd buying massive amounts

I recognise this as typical for a situation that BTC is about to blow massively higher while Alts are tanking. But when Bitcoin has blasted higher (not a couple of $1,000s, but multiples), those beaten Alts will make new millionaires. Those that are buying (extra) now.
I hope so.... IOTA holders went through hell during last weeks...

exactly . I see my capital dropping day after day after day with these bitcoin forking things ..
maybe someone should iota to iota gold Smiley

Roll Eyes I know this is just a joke but it hits way too close to home. This is why crypto will never be a replacement for physical gold. Complement of course. Replacement no.
