1121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 20, 2017, 01:45:27 AM
Could ETH or BTC implement features which will make Monero obsolete?

I've heard the Ring?? algorithm is the best there is for privacy.

No, But the opposite is quite true.

Does monero have plans to facilitate turing complete on chain scripting? If not than I don't see how it could make eth obsolete.

I said possible not probable. It's impossible for that touring complete shitshow to ever become backwardly fungible nor immutable.

Don't get me wrong. I have plenty of my own beef with ETH. But I do not understand this criticism.

Are you saying turing complete on chain scripting is necessarily impossible to be fungible or immutable in all conceivable implementations? Or are you claiming this of ETH particular implementation? Also I understand what fungible and immutable mean generally but I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by them in this case. Can you elaborate? Do you have any relevant links that lead you to this conclusion?

If you are talking about how they hard fork and roll back all the time to make up for their incompetence than I would say they can (and should) have chosen not to do that.

More bullish news for Monero: blockchain analysis traces bitcoin, litecoin, dash, zcash transactions but is stumped by Monero - https://themerkle.com/blocksci-succesfully-traces-transactions-performed-with-dash-zcash-and-other-currencies/ XMR up 5% at $155.50 on news.
This is just brilliant - the blustering dash head comments underneath are hilarious. Monero tech: BEATS THEM ALL.

The butthurt in these comments is just priceless!

By being in dash they have the luxury of not having missed the train at all. These people still have a chance to turn in their respectable dash profits into monero if they can overcome their hubris. I wonder how many will. I think not many. Most will go down with their leaky ship.

Do you think Monero is a good choice for a long term?

1125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 13, 2017, 05:08:30 PM
The way monero is holding its value in this crypto bear market I think is telling of who is going to be the big winner when it turns bull market. Grin

Do you think Monero is a good choice for a long term?
Depends how you define long term. In general no crypto currency is going to be a good "long term investment" if "long term" is too long of a term. They are all just schemes of a somewhat arbitrary nature. They will all, in time, return from whence they came. Every cryptocurrencys ultimate eventual price is 0. This isn't to discount them. A hammer that fades into nothingness over the course of a decade can still hammer a lot of nails. They have utility so long as their price isn't 0 and monero has some of the best utility of anything out there. So I think prospects are very bright for monero, but I wouldnt "set it and forget it" because I wouldn't do that with any cryptocurrency. Buy a gold bar if you want a long term investment. Buy a cryptocurrency if you want an exciting speculative vehicle with big potential.

Who has seen an expression that subtle in any movie in 10 years? When did Sean Connery become Chris Pratt? Where did all the real actors go?

I tried to use the lates Monero Wallet on a Ryzen computer (Windows 10 with all the latest updates) and I get   "Daemon failed to start"

Any suggestions ?

All the other wallets work fine.

Ok so your problem is that you have malware on your computer. It's one of the nastiest pieces of malware currently known to man. Researchers are calling it "windows 10". To get rid of it you can start by going to linux.org...

Na I'm just messing. Sorry idk I've never used the windows client.

wow, that was pathetic... Dont reply next time. Pathetic fanboy.

You're not my real dad!
1127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: September 12, 2017, 07:00:25 PM
Maybe someone knows when IOTA will be added in new exchanges.
Seems it's necessary to get in other exchanges.
Nobody knows. The developers ignore this question.

As they should. Totally out side of the scope of we should hope they are worrying about.

Prolonged BTC bear market. Long-term BTC waves tend to follow patterns of multiples of 4 or 5. Peaks at ~$250.... slides to ~$50. Up to ~$1000.... back down to ~$250. Peaks at $5000.... long descent to ~$1000 - $1250. Then back up to $16000 - $20000.

I know its stupid. But I really think it's different this time. I think there are too many normie institutional investors looking for a BTFD price. That never was the case before. I bet ~4000 is the cyclical low. I mean where the eff does one find value in this market any more? Fixed income? Stawks? Give me a break. There is no where else interesting for one to put their money. Bitcoin offers more upside potential than even retail debt at a fraction of the risk. That's why this radical rally happened in the first place. And its not like anything changed.

*edit* Yea ok there is precious metals. And they are probably actually finally a good buy because of this. But they are such a small market that they could increase 100 time with plenty of capital left over to sustain or propel bitcoins price higher.
1130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: September 11, 2017, 07:43:04 PM
took some time till i got the "boating accident" joke ^^.

It's not a joke... It really happened... To all of us... You shouldn't make light of other peoples misfortunes. Angry
1131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 11, 2017, 07:30:24 PM

And THEN the dawn will break and things will reverse *again* and we'll regain $10K then soon enough $50K... and then it'll be off to the races once again in a cycle that'll run from $50,000 to the $100K's and maybe at nearly full global adoption some day, peak $1-Million per coin (when a single satoshi will be... a penny).

Whether or not bitcoin comes back after that will be all down to utility. Did the community manage to solve scaling? And privacy? Are transactions cheap enough to be competitive with the card companies for every day commerce? Those things dont matter so much right now because its a speculative bubble. But some day when that bubble gets shaken out it will be the only thing that matters.
1132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 08, 2017, 03:14:41 AM

Haha   'Monero did not respond to CNBC's request for comment'  LOL

I asked the rain this morning if it would stop, and it didn't respond either.  I wonder what's going on Huh

What does that even mean? They tried to talk to monero. Like a monero? The private key that its on? A copy of the block chain? Anyone who ever made a commit on github? These people are so out of their league. And I don't know about you guys but I always make sure its dark in my room when ever I use the dark web.

Also what does it say about their audience how slow............... they think............... their audience................ reads?

This was quite amusing  Cheesy Thanks for the share mnemonicsoup.
1133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 07, 2017, 07:11:21 PM
Monero price is for the moment quite stable, it is fluctuating around 120$. Do you guys expect on the short term a new rise or? I am now it is sometimes difficult to predict, but I am just curious  Wink
My guess would be that Monero will stabilize around 120$ for a while and then hit a small dip followed by the next large pump. Of course I'm no expert.

Monero is a proper lady. She does like to slow down and take her time before before putting a leg up.
1134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / When the ICO bubble bursts what will it take with it? on: September 07, 2017, 07:05:16 PM

This thing is going to blow. And probably sooner rather than later. So the question is; what, if anything, will be taken down with it? The bottom fifty percentile market cap of altcoins? The top fifty percentile? The top 10? Ethereum? Even the king bitcoin it's self? Or will it be contained in the subprime and never effect much more than the ICO market its self?
1135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 06, 2017, 10:57:53 PM
There is somewhere between a 99 and 101 percent chance that monero will be illegal someday. Plan accordingly. The good news is none of us have any monero. We all lost it in our boating accidents.
1136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: September 01, 2017, 05:40:39 PM
http://astrohacker.com/ahc/bitcoin-is-the-economic-singularity/

After reading this, the scale of black market and digital economies and the effect Bitcoin will have on them I am pretty certain we are going to be very wealthy men -- even with a sum as small as 10 Bitcoins. It's just so hard to believe. We are only in the beginning storms with these significant rallies from 10 to 20 dollars. I will not be surprised to see prices from hundreds to thousands in the coming months.

The world just isn't going to be the same and we have been blessed as the pioneers.

What are you going to do with your Bitcoin wealth once your coins hit upwards of $10,000 a pop?
Bitcoin has turned a lot of young people into millionaires in just months of investing in it. It wouldn’t be a big deal if I invest half of my salary in bitcoin and watch it rise over the years.

Unless it doesnt. Bitcoin used to be cheap. Sooo cheap for what it was. Not sure if its cheap any more. Maybe it is. Just not sure any more.
1137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: August 17, 2017, 06:29:33 PM
Agreed with you that we are one of the new wealthy community. People who are holding the bitcoins will definitely became the wealthiest in the long run. Let's hold longer for the $10,000 target value.

Wrong thread. Hodl thread is here. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643
1138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: August 17, 2017, 06:25:42 PM
Is there anyway for a US resident to purchase IOTA? I have been trying to find a way for a while

https://www.bitfinex.com/

If you cant get usd into bitfinex from the USA than purchase bitcoin using usd at w/e exchange you prefer and transfer the bitcoin over to bitfinex.
1139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: June 17, 2017, 04:02:08 AM
The future is here & her name is "IOTA", this has got to be one of the most exciting projects in crypto right now. Free instant micro transactions, UNLIMITED SCALABILITY, NO FEES!!! LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN, NOOOO FEEEES & INSTANT & UNLIMITED SCALABILITY!!!!!  This is everything BitCoin wishes it could be.. Don't get me wrong I love me some BitCoin, but let's be honest BitCoin is old school tech, IOTA is 3rd Generation... Thank you BitCoin for opening the door and showing the way... Now it's time for bigger and better..Roll Eyes No more waiting 45mins for confirmation!!! Heck in 45mins the price can crash 30%!

It is freaking brilliant. Do your own proof of work for your own transaction and then hash 2 other transactions when you broadcast it. Tons of proof of work piles up and there is no need for fees because not everyone needs to witness every transaction. Granted it isnt going to be as secure as bitcoin after a couple of confirmations. But no matter how insecure each individual conformation is it will still get piled under the weight of the entire network in time.
1140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: June 17, 2017, 02:50:52 AM
Hi guys. I purchased IOTA in September of 2016 and I just tried to access it with my seed for the first time since then but it says 0 balance. I am using iota_2.3.0_amd64.deb in lite mode. Someone suggested trying to produce many new addresses. I have produced and attached 54 so far but still 0 balance. I will keep trying. But in the mean time, what else can be done?

Thanks to anyone who can help and I will be tipping anyone who is material in helping me resolve this issue.

*edit* Oh and I don't have my database information any more. All I have is my seed. I thought that was all I needed.

You ve missed the second claiming phase which was automaticly and isnt possible anymore, you ve to contact David on slack, all you need is your old seed.  Good luck with your IOTAs, great investment!.

Oh wait. I was reading this more carefully and I think we miss communicated. I purchased my IOTA second hand from an ICO investor. I think the confusion came from my use of the word stake.

You still need to contact David,  you ve your IOTAs on a old Seed adress, doesnt matter if you bought it or not.

thanks. pm me your address so i can send a tip if it all comes through.
