1321  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: Want to Hire PHP developer on: July 19, 2011, 01:05:50 PM
Hi, I would like to invite you to post your job information on my website https://workforbitcoin.com
It's very convenient to use and there are now hundreds of registered workers look for jobs there.

wangxinxi, you should add a section for resumes, for people who want full-time or part-time bitcoin-related work.

In the meantime, all of you should check out the bitcoin software developer resume trove: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=10878.0

If you are interested in bitcoin-related work, you should have a post there!

1322  Economy / Services / Re: [GIG] Earn BTC for unghosting craigslist ads on: July 19, 2011, 12:57:53 PM
I would suggest THIS. An SSH tunnel through a VPS. I will set it up for you if:

- You purchase a VPS from lightfoot or other VPS for BTC distributor
- I am paid 5 BTC

You will then be able to post your own ads until that IP is blacklisted, in which case I suggest moving to a new VPS, or asking your host to change the IP.

Thanks for the offer. My current system seems to be working quite well.

I'll take this opportunity to mention that people are still being paid to do this, and many ads have expired recently, so there are lots of cities needing an ad at the moment.
1323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dwolla E-mails on: July 18, 2011, 09:33:10 PM
I assumed it was phishing and actually reported it to their phishing report email address. It seemed impossible that it was really from Dwolla since the URL in the email was not pointing to dwolla.com

I can't imagine why they would set up a redirect like that. Maybe the phishing attempt was reported to the hosting company and they neutralized it by redirecting to the dwolla site?
1324  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Shout outs from Seattle on: July 18, 2011, 08:59:05 PM
mods: Can this thread be moved to the newbie section? Some people would like to post here, and they currently can't.
1325  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Shout outs from Seattle on: July 18, 2011, 08:54:53 PM
So the meetup time is last Friday of each month ,10am? Well, I need to go to work (and mining bitcoin is not my main business Smiley

I didn't set that time/place, and I've never showed up there at that time, because I too have a day-job.

It's a wiki, so I guess anybody can change it that wants to. I probably wouldn't be able to make a monthly meeting, but I'd try to get to a one-time event, or the first monthly meeting.
1326  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bet now - When will aliens visit earth? on: July 14, 2011, 03:01:06 PM
Never in all of history has any evidence of visitation by alien life been identified. And your geussing this August? So, i'll match your 1BTC and bet against you. If by Aug.21 no aliens arrive, I win. Deal?
No evidence?  Why are there half a million results for the term UFO on YouTube?  Is it all genuine proof?  No, but there is more evidence that they do exist and have visited than that they don't exist or haven't visited earth.

I'll have to deny that offer though, I think it will happen in 2012.

How about you set up a bet for whether or not it will happen in 2012 at all?

I had a conversation recently with someone who claimed they would "bet their life" that it would happen in December 2012:

That reminds me of another IM conversation I had with . . . somebody else:

him: on December 21 2012  is the day everyone will become aware.
me: aware of what?
him: UFO's are here, and always have been.
me: Interesting prediction
him: I don't think its a prediction.
him: its pretty well set in stone.
him: no pun intended
me: Do you think that on December 22nd 2012, I will believe that "UFO's are here, and always have been."?
him: I would bet my life on it.
me: Wow. Forget betting your life. I wish there was a way to bet money on it.
him: I guess we'll have to bet on December 20th.
him: 2012

I sure hope there is a predictions market running by then.

That person later went on to steal some money from me, so I now distrust all UFO evangelists by extension, so I wouldn't place a bet with you holding the money (you might be him, for all I know), but I would definitely place a bet against that event if someone I trusted was holding the money.

Winning my stolen money back by betting against another UFO believer would be such sweet justice.
1327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Witch Bitcoin Symbol? EVERYONE VOTE AND USE!!! on: July 14, 2011, 02:40:36 PM
Can you add an option for "none of the above"?

Here is what I think it should look like:

1328  Economy / Services / Re: BOUNTY: Bitcoins for prank calls! on: July 13, 2011, 11:42:26 PM
Also, added bonus if you can somehow reenact "The Murder Scene Call on the Bob and Tom show"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkdoogjic4I

I laughed really hard at that. I felt I had to send $1 (0.07 BTC) to 18TKNbSLTrd3a2W8mtoH5uNzFhWRWNcuHU (based on your firstbits)
1329  Economy / Services / Re: Wanted: Way to spam a cellphone with thousands of text messages on: July 13, 2011, 10:16:11 PM
Haha okay. As you wish

.1 btc bounty - That's $1.40! Cheesy to anyone who prank calls this number 281-685-0510, records it, and shares it with us here in this thread.

Scammer's name is Shawn Martin. Bonus bitcoins for hilarious content! Try to make it at an inconvenient time. Wink

Yes!

OP Suggestion: Rename this thread something like: [BOUNTY] Bitcoins for prank calls

Caller suggestions:
1) Use a heavy accent, then accuse him of racism if he claims he can't understand you.
2) Tell him he won a big prize, then make him do something ridiculous to claim the prize.
    a. "TV Show: All you have to do to claim your $1M is dig a 6 ft deep hole in your parents' lawn before they notice!"
    b. "Radio Show: All you have to do to claim your trip to Tahiti is convince your parents you are gay."
3) Pretend you are an investigating a crime, and he is the suspect
4) Pretend you are an angry gay man jealous of his flirting with your partner
5) Offer $100 payment if he completes your survey, then ask lots of embarrassing questions
6) The old classic: claim that he called you.
7) If you are a girl, or know one who can pull this off: "Shawn, I'm calling from the doctor's office. I'm pregnant!" (For best results, have her talk in a hoarse whisper because she has laryngitis)
8 ) Extra points if you get him to divulge his address (where should we send the check?)
1330  Economy / Services / Re: Wanted: Way to spam a cellphone with thousands of text messages on: July 13, 2011, 08:15:06 PM
Post the phone number and a bounty for recorded prank calls with him.

Come on, do it!

1332  Economy / Services / Re: Wanted: Way to spam a cellphone with thousands of text messages on: July 13, 2011, 02:54:19 PM
I paid cahs, since it was craigslist. Nobody deals in anything but cash, plus I've never had a problem before. Imagine my surprise when I stick it into my machine and NOTHING turns on. :/

Talked to the police, they basically laughed at me. Sad times. So nobody knows of any email bombers or anything like that?

Text messages? You are thinking too small!

Post his phone number, and have people record their voice calls with him. Pay a bounty for how long they can waste his time on the phone, with bonus BTC for being amusing!

I LOVE a good prank call, and I'm sure many people will donate a few dollars worth of BTC if this happens, assuming the OP is telling the truth and this guy deserves it.

As tempting as it is, I won't make any calls myself, since I am a pansy about breaking the law (recording calls w/o permission).
1333  Economy / Marketplace / Re: FEI BitCard Store Update Thread on: July 11, 2011, 08:23:33 PM
Sorry, I'm too paranoid to click on a URL that looks like the ones in my email spam folder.
1334  Economy / Marketplace / Re: MetaCo.in Deal for today: Flash Drives for bitcoins on: July 11, 2011, 08:18:45 PM
I ordered one. Thanks!

I've destroyed two cheap-o USB flash drives just by having them in my pocket, so it's about time I tried one that was advertised as "rugged".

I've been waiting for a Metacoin deal that I could justify purchasing. I'm delighted that I finally get to support this awesome idea!
1335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the only currency that is safe around young children and infants. on: July 11, 2011, 08:09:33 PM
Not only can your child choke on a coin, physical money is contaminated by every hand that has touched it, some of them unwashed hands which leave traces of fecal matter and other nasty stuff.

I'd be horrified to see my kid put a dollar bill in his mouth. At least the previous owner of a bitcoin can't leave their poo on it.
1336  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 9.7BTC for the taking! Bet on bitcoin future price here (July 1st, 2011) on: July 11, 2011, 03:03:06 PM
I've returned the 50 BTC bond to 18CeiS44ZFP4kXdgzx3yNocwqRqyDZxghu in transaction dea182c9888fe6265b889453015b4826c41ce552548eec692f5740cd24b76a46

I confirm receipt of the bond. Thanks!
1337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Camp BX - Affiliate Program Announcement on: July 08, 2011, 09:51:29 PM
Also, I posted this question in the main camp bx thread, but maybe this is a better thread to ask this question:

Quote
Keyur, will you give people a way to see how many have signed up from their referral links, and way to see how much they have earned from referrals? I like how TradeHill does it, even though it is a bit depressing to see how little money comes in that way.
1338  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Camp BX - Affiliate Program Announcement on: July 08, 2011, 09:48:37 PM
I posted my affiliate link in a couple relevant places, along with what I hope were non-spammy comments about camp bx. I guess I'll see if I crossed a line by doing that.
1339  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Camp BX Hacker / Security Audit: Results on: July 08, 2011, 09:46:52 PM
Camp BX got some press coverage:
http://www.zippycart.com/ecommerce-news/2796-ecommerce-solution-camp-bx-makes-bitcoin-legitimate.html
http://venturebeat.com/2011/07/07/camp-bx-bitcoin/

Also, they just announced a new affiliate program. The deal is the same as TradeHill.com, 10% off your trading fees if you sign up through an affiliate link such as this one (mine): https://CampBX.com/register.php?r=mdslj19rhcD

If you registered before the affiliate program started, email them, and they will get you the discount. (At least, they did it for me).

Their website claims they will disable your affiliate link if people complain that you are spamming it everywhere, so don't do that.
