Entrepreneurs Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have filed an application for a limited liability trust company in New York.
The filing for Gemini Trust Company, if approved by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), would enable the Winklevoss brothers to launch Gemini, their forthcoming bitcoin exchange product first announced in January.
The announcement notably follows itBit's May announcement that it received a trust company charter from the NYDFS. Under New York banking law, trust companies are financial institutions that, while unique from banks, are able to take deposits and issue loans.
Upon launch, Gemini will join itBit as the second bitcoin exchange to launch services in New York following the passage of the BitLicense earlier this year.
A spokesperson for the NYDFS confirmed the agency has received the application and that it is currently under review. Recent Gemini twitter re-tweet: Gemini retweeted

The winklevii already have investors ready to buy as soon as they go live. They know alot of high power people.
I don't doubt they know powerful people but powerful people are "usually" powerful as they are fairly intelligent. Now, I am mildly semi intelligent and I know if I were them I'd buy before Gemini is launched and the price potentially rises. Why wait for the winkles? I am not sold on this Gemini exchange doing much at all to the price. Not moon bound anyway but............ I really hope I am wrong and everyone points and laughs at me. |

Aren't there already exchanges? Why expect a upward movement in price?

Gemini will be a "fully regulated, fully compliant" exchange with major fiat backing (Winklevoss twins) They also have a major stake in Bitcoin with a reported 1-2 percent of there assets in BTC. The Twins seem serious and motivated to "Make Bitcoin bigger then Facebook". If sombody will make BTC "Mainstream" it will be them. Yeah but is this just a U.S thing only? Most exchanges are awful with Euro, pound sterling etc. Apart from in the U.S. it's pretty shitty for the average person to buy bitcoins. This has most likely been mentioned 100s of times but if the winkles have that much what's to stop them dumping on Gemini? Not trolling, just asking. |

If true, most have no idea what's going to happen.. holishit! Any speculation as to what could happen to the price if/when this happens? I love to dream.  I am exactly the same. I don't know about the price but if it works out banks around the world will follow suit |

xD Me either man. Well, I mainly just don't know what "MA" is or the numbers after it. I understand most everything else. The OP seems to really know what he is talking about though but, like he said, it isn't a for sure thing. It just has facts to support the guess. I just buy and hodl and read far too many posts/ threads on here. I won't even pretend I can read graphs/ charts or trade. OP I am looking forward to seeing the outcome here. I'll invest and if it goes wrong, so be it.
The potential upside is too great to ignore. I don't fancy working until I am 70 so I will invest (not just in crypto) continuously through my working life until there is no need to be a slave anymore.
Or you could earn and keep in in the bank. Your choice.
Can you retire from being a slave or can you just become a retired slave? Lets say you have $1b in the bank and you live a lifestyle where you only use people's services and offer no service in return, you merely exchange your $ for goods and services until you die. Is this freedom? Perhaps you would invest some of your $. Let's say you invest in property, well then you take on the role of overseer. You would take a rental income from your tenant and if they do not pay you would call upon the state to evict (punish) the tenant. It's all as civil as it can possibly be and I don't hate it but common we remain, no matter what number we achieve with our mathematics skills. Freedom to me is buying property and working for myself renovating houses which I enjoy. Not relying on anyone else for work. Being able to treat my family without worrying. Being able to say to my wife she doesn't have to go to work again as we have enough money for her to bring our own child up and be at home with him each day instead of extortionate UK childcare costs that are more than her wage. That's freedom for our family. No greed, just security. |
