3301  Other / Off-topic / Re: DO YOU HAVE 1 BITCOIN? on: July 20, 2015, 01:22:14 AM
@OP, Yes, i have more than 1 btc, but sadly not even a small portion of what i once had remained.
Are you asking about 1 btc as a some form of 21 million people club? Because owning one bitcoin today makes you one of 341,830 , and not one in 21 million.

You can check exact statistics at ondn.net:800/search. It's interesting to see that smaller amount of people hold very large portions of bitcoins, similar as to what is happening in fiat.

Interesting how many people lost a large share of their money in gambling.

Amounts can be deceiving, because people often talk about how much btc they lost, but not how much that btc was worth at the time.
I lost over 200 btc gambling, but it wasn't worth much at the time tbh.

cheers

This is bullshit. He is basically not one of 341830 but his address is. I have way more than 1 BTC, but I never hold more than 1 BTC in one address, so I'm not the part of the people holding 1 BTC? Smiley

This. There's no exact way to know. There may be whales out there, having 10 BTC on each address, but their total wallet may be 1000.. its really tricky, thats why total supply seems like a better estimate.
3302  Economy / Speculation / Re: Permabull Party Thread on: July 16, 2015, 06:20:06 PM
Drop below 300 has little to do with Greece imo.

Just wait a bit once Greece goes on overdrive after it's clear what's already obvious by anyone with a brain: That Greece is on a dead end and can't pay the debt, and they will eventually abandon the eurozone (lets remember they cannot be kicked, but they can be "pushed").
3303  Economy / Economics / Re: Pyramid schemes are being fought by the law on: July 16, 2015, 06:11:27 PM
http://www.coindesk.com/police-arrest-20-in-digital-currency-pyramid-scheme/

Spanish police have arrested 20 individuals in connection with a pyramid scheme that used a fake digital currency called the unete to attract unwitting investors.

The Spanish National Police Corp announced the arrests on 16th July, which took place in Madrid and other parts of the country.

Police estimate that the scheme resulted in as much as €50m in losses, ensnaring roughly 50,000 victims worldwide – with 6,000 in Spain alone.

Spanish police seized over €5m and approximately $22m from related bank accounts. Two luxury cars and 18 computers were also taken into custody. According to police, the investigation into the scheme was sparked a year and a half ago after a former employee approached law enforcement officials.

...there have been so many pyramid schemes on this forum that it's refreshing to see some sort of legal and judicial action taken against someone who was producing a pyramid scheme. I realize this article IS NOT about anything that happened on this forum -  which is a great thing - but it's easy for a newbie hear to buy some bitcoin and then get taken for a ride on one of the pyramid schemes advertised and end up with nothing.

What would you consider a pyramid scheme on this forum? A dodgy altcoin? a dodgy IPO? can you put some examples of demonstrated pyramid schemes that have happened in this forum?
I can't think of any right now. I just remember tons of dodgy altcoins and people buying into them, but you knew you were taking a big risk by doing so.
3304  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: July 16, 2015, 06:08:53 PM
The best way and without any thinking is to just mine as many as you can you never know how many you'll be needing

You'd need a big ass pile of cash to start mining in a meaningful manner now. Those days are a pretty much gone for the little people.

The only realistic way to make Bitcoin that involves mining is mining the right altcoin and selling at the right time. Namely, mining altcoin number "8393589" while its cheap and easy. Wait for the pump. Sell right at the top. Profit.
If you did this with some coins such as Darkcoin, Nautiluscoin, Doge, Monero... and tons other, you could have made tons and tons of money.
3305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you tell kids about bitcoin? on: July 16, 2015, 06:05:32 PM
I would not tell at all.
It's already hard to explain it to a non-tech adult, needless to say that it would be a mess to explain such thing to a common child.

This. I wouldn't try to explain them, if I had any kids, I would wait until they are at least teens and already know how to use the basics of a computer.
In anyway, in the next generations once Bitcoin is mainstream, the kids will grow up naturally knowing how to use it, we will not need to teach them, it's like smartphones, they just know what to do with them intuitively.
3306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finding Satoshi Nakamoto - Short Film on: July 16, 2015, 05:50:34 PM
This could be a cool full length film. The Bitcoin world has so much quirks and resources to make for a fantastic documentary/film, so much drama and mysteries along with the technological revolution that Bitcoin is. Mark my words and we'll sooner or later see a commercial film about Bitcoin related stuff in the big theaters.
3307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How does it feel to spend bitcoins and soon after the price goes up? on: July 16, 2015, 05:48:15 PM
The "fun" part of this is probably both the owner of 10.000 coins and the pizza deliver man that delivered the 10.000 coins both have no BTC right now because back then it was almost useless, so I doubt they took extra measures to hold those coins for years.
Lesson learned: Feel free to spend your BTC, but have a % of it frozen and have a % of the BTC you make to keep growing that frozen stack for the future.
3308  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Laundry/Mixer on: July 16, 2015, 05:44:25 PM
How would it be possible to track back to the origin source if the transactions were mixed, broken down and distributed across random intervals- all to different addresses?

Realistically it's pretty low % of you being trace back to those coins, but the main problem with the mixing method is is ultimately centralized, you have to trust that the mixer service will not keep logs and deliver logs to authorities or someone else if requested, let alone owners of the mixer service taking advantage of the logs for blackmailing and whatnot. That's extremely paranoid tho, if you aren't moving ridiculous amounts of money and you just want to move a couple hundred around no one is going to care.
3309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is NOT a currency debate! on: July 16, 2015, 05:41:28 PM
From all of the anti-bitcoin arguments against it not being a proper currency that i've heard (and trust me i've read TONS) im yet to see a single one that justifies such claim. Every single claims end up being a critique of how it lacks intrinsic value or how it lacks a proper marketcap to be less volatile, both already refuted.
3310  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10K by the end of 2016 on: July 15, 2015, 01:10:20 PM
Yes. But in the same way that I think it could be raining in exactly 1 year. That is to say, no one on Earth knows.

Well, planet earth is huge so there will be at least one place where it's raining exactly 1 year away from your message. 10K confirmed? Smiley
On a serious note, I think 10K is actually possible, the trend is obviously up, things are looking great for the future, and the halving hype may be insanely huge coupled with the rest of Bitcoin advancements. Im looking forward to it.
3311  Economy / Economics / Re: Why have Bitcoin instead of cash? on: July 15, 2015, 01:09:03 PM
Cash is dirty and full of bacteria, bitcoin is digital clean and doesn't rot.

Wow, that is an answer I would expect from a 6 year old Tongue You know paper money can be exchanged from the bank, you can get a new note if you want. Most of the cash is not stored in the banks, but it is only crunching of numbers which is transferred everyday between. All the paper money which comes inside bank, goes outside the same way. It doesn't leave the bank any other way.

I only now thought about that all the currency controls at airports are completely useless when it comes to bitcoin. Till now people tried to hide cash in clothes, use diamonds or something, now they have a usbstick with an image that has a tiny encrypted file inside that contains a private key. Its so absolutely hideable that its funny when they would try to search someone. I mean all these controls would go to waste. You can hide a small file or even some signs everywhere.

In a sense bitcoin is awesome.

Bitcoin has already been attached to so many money laundering crimes, I swear. And also, a person doesn't even need to hide their usb stick. And transactions can happen through sms also, so fuck a usb stick. No suspicion, you can always carry a mobile phone anywhere you want. Haha.

I think you are a bit delusional if you think the paper you get from banks is freshly printed. Correct me if im wrong but the cash you get outside ATMs are always re-used from other people and not newly printed.
3312  Economy / Economics / Re: If Greece defaults on: July 15, 2015, 01:07:25 PM
Let's be honest. Why would Eurozone still stay in touch with Greece even when they know Greece is just sucking the money out of them and hanging on them like a parasite? Because they all know how important Greece's presence is, how there's gonna be proper collateral damage when Greece exits and they all want to either work on the collateral damage or just try to avoid it for now. Those grown men aren't that stupid.

If you read the treaties on the eurozone there is a section it clearly says no country can kick any other country outside the euro, so what they are doing at this point is pushing them as much as possible so they leave by themselves (this is accepted) .
3313  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Betting on dice with bots! Please help! on: July 15, 2015, 01:04:44 PM
maybe I don't get it, but even you know all the facts posted above, you are still trying to find a way, how to play on dice remotely?

I don't want to convince you are something, but it just simply don't makes sense. on one side, you are considering fees as electricity and in other one, you want to gamble with bot.

so again, you can't make in profit in long-term by gambling on dice site. and for short-term, you don't need any bot or remote access..please, read again, what I posted.

This, there's no way around it. It's better to limit your gambling, and aim for a lucky strike instead of massively gambling nonstop with smaller quantities.
3314  Economy / Gambling / Re: Good and relatively safe dice strategy? on: July 15, 2015, 01:02:55 PM
Hi, I want to know what's the best strategy when playing dice if I have 10 BTC bankroll and want to make 40 BTC.
I know only Martingale, and that's bullshit strategy so I was just randomly betting and lost so much.

There's not a single strategy that will effectively turn your 10 BTC to 40 BTC. Everything is you do has tons of risk and a big element of randomness, basically luck.

My very first bit of advice is to limit your monthly gambling. Gamble only with 1 BTC per month, once that BTC is consumed in gambling, with or without profits stop for the next month, repeat.
3315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is at a turning point, evolving much more quickly than some observers re on: July 15, 2015, 12:57:27 PM
Lake, this article can't be read unless someone has a subscription to WSJ. Would be better if you could copy the text into the post.

I agree that there's been a lot of positive news lately, likely the driver behind the quick price run up too! It's an exciting time to be involved and watching and aware of what's going on. Let's up the future continues to provide steady but safe and sound growth (e.g., the Fork, etc.)

Hopefully in the future, WSJ accepts Bitcoin so you can pay them a small quantity of BTC to unlock only the article you want to read instead of having to pay annoying monthly subscriptions. I mean imagine how much money they would get from doing that, and for free, they don't need to invest any infrastructure because its all there already. BTC saves the day once again.
3316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: News: Putin on: July 15, 2015, 12:55:56 PM
Is this a change is stance for them then? I thought I had read somewhere in the past that Russia had banned Bitcoin.

A lot of people is backpedling about their critiques with BTC and are slowly (or suddenly) changing their views and seeing it as more positive. They've seen banning it is useless, so what can you do? accept it. Im surprised Putin corrected his stance on BTC this quick tho, I would expect him to be one of the last guys to pick the train.
3317  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay on: July 15, 2015, 12:53:20 PM
If OpenBazaar has listings including drugs / weapons etc on there then I won't be using the platform and I know of many other legit retailers who would follow the same principle.

Its going to be further complicated by individual country laws ie. UK You can sell either seeds or hydroponic equipment but you can't sell seeds and hydroponic equipment together because we have laws covering incitement. It is illegal to germinate a cannabis seed in the UK so listing a propagation light or advising a customer on growing techniques along with your seeds is covered by encouragement laws. It is not even necessary for there to be evidence of a crime being committed to secure a conviction for the incitement part.

If the items you list are legal in your home country and in the country you ship to then I see no problem. It could get messy very quickly though.

This is why I'm unsure of how well it is actually going to work. I think there should be different versions of open bazaar and maybe they will. People really aren't going to be wanting to be listing 'legit' items on a site where you can buy drugs or the worst type of porn. There should be specific sites for each thing. For those that want to buy drugs they should go to the decentralized market on the darknet and for those who want to buy candles or alpaca socks they go to another on the clearnet. Regardless I'm sure it's only a matter of time before a decentralized deepweb market pops up (of there isn't one already - though I haven't heard of it).
Same as BitcoinAccepted here, im not going to be using anything ilegal. I don't want my coins to be mixed with coins that have illicit origin. Thats the problem of a public ledger, if you get some coins that are proved of illicit origin it may be a problem for you. Who would accept them as payment?
Well since BTC is not refundable it shouldn't be a problem, but it still hurts its fungible features.
3318  Economy / Services / Re: Coinomat.com - Signature Campaign! [STARTED] on: July 14, 2015, 09:57:21 PM
maybe he got accepted because someone quit the campaign after getting their payment. I'm not sure tho
i think you're right for this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1007178.msg11873393#msg11873393
someone leave the campaign after the payment and slot opened only for 1 participant and also will be the last one

They have a very intelligent bot, it seems it knows when there are free spots or not, this is way better than dealing with people waiting for PMs and stuff. All campaigns should get with the times and automate this process. Good job.
3319  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bear Trap triggered on: July 11, 2015, 04:16:51 PM
The bears are started to get scared. You can tell by the amount of fud posts, they are decreasing every day that the average price goes up. Time to give up on your FUD and buy in.
3320  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC on the rise again ! on: July 11, 2015, 03:58:03 PM
I noticed that BTC value is rising. What could be the reason for this rise, and how much it will rise. I remember once it went up to 1000$.  Grin

There's a lot of people that haven't entered the BTC market yet and are waiting each other's position, people with TONS of money are waiting on the sidelines for each other to take the first step. All of the evidence of BTC being the next revolution since the internet is stacking up on a daily basis. It's only a mater of time we have another mega bubble that goes past the last AH.
