So when is Andreas Antonopoulous going to run for presidency? I want a Bitcoin advocate president so I dont fall asleep when they do their speeches.
3482  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Cop "accidently" shoots and kills man. on: April 14, 2015, 12:11:56 AM
This is getting pretty crazy. These guys they are on Grand Theft Auto V or something, to be shooting random people like that.
3483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why fight over block size when you have these upcoming technologies! on: April 14, 2015, 12:10:40 AM
I've been trying to find direct quotes by satoshi on this whole "to fork, or not to fork for bigger blocksizes" thing. Can you post them?

Here it is: http://www.mail-archive.com/cryptography@metzdowd.com/msg09964.html
Wow thats pretty interesting, amazing how satoshi really thought about everything.
He also predicted the big mining farms. So he basically is saying that we are still at the beginning, since these technologies arent mainstream yet.
3484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying and holding BTC without mining.. on: April 14, 2015, 12:03:07 AM
Is like buying a gold mine and not having guards.

You have zero say in what happens to the coins you own.
We have guards, they are the laws of the universe and cannot be broken. You can attack a vault, kill some people, and steal their gold. Try that with bitcoin, and, well..

Indeed. I sleep better at night knowing that my wealth on Bitcoin from that perspective, not so much due the crazy volatility but thats a given if you want to be a pioneer and that I can deal with.
3485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kaspersky and INTERPOL Say Blockchain is Vulnerable on: April 14, 2015, 12:01:21 AM
What they are basically saying is that viruses can use the Bitcoin blockchain to communicate with their authors. So for example the virus author could put code into the blockchain and the infected computers would all get that code from the blockchain and run it.

And that's a legitimate concern with any method of communicating over the internet.. whether you're using the blockchain, a centralized server, some other P2P mechanism like BitTorrent or (as you mentioned) even something like PasteBin. Theoretically a virus, trojan or other malware could just as easily use a GMail account for the same purpose. Any of those methods would probably be a lot easier and less expensive for the malware author than repeatedly paying to put messages in the Bitcoin blockchain (either as fake outputs or OP_RETURNs), but I can see how putting the messages in the blockchain would be much more resilient than most of the other methods I can think of.

Quote
Most people are going to read this article and take it to mean that computers can be infected via the blockchain. This is not true. What they are talking about is using the blockchain as a way for hackers to send instructions to infected computers.

Perhaps it's the way the article is written, then? I took to mean the same thing, especially since it specifically mentions "fetching information from transaction records and running it as code" and in that light it's nothing but FUD, no Bitcoin client does that and there's no need for any Bitcoin client to ever do that. Of course some hacker using it to send messages to control infected computers is a much more legitimate concern. Even worse, I'd think, would be a hacker using it to send messages from infected computers back to himself. But we already have viruses and keyloggers that do a pretty good job of phoning home without ever having to touch the blockchain. Smiley

They are just hyping their antivirus bloatware any way they can. Whats the next big thing in everyone's computer? Bitcoin. Then lets start selling how Bitcoin "can infect your computer thought the blockchain" and make some shekels.
3486  Economy / Economics / Re: Greece's own bitcoin-like money on: April 11, 2015, 10:24:57 PM
Time to make a new pump and dump greeks aurora (titanic)?  Grin
Lol, I remember AUR, I could have made so much money but I was greedy and didn't buy. That pump was epic. As far as I can remember not any other coin reached 0.1 BTC with such supply.
3487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cryptography. on: April 11, 2015, 10:23:37 PM
There have been enough computer scientists and researchers that have looked over Bitcoin's theory and cryptography and code in the past 6 years. If it was a problem they would've said something already :-)
There's nothing to "crack" about the BTC code... again, at the end of the day it all comes down to cracking the cryptographic algorithm which is simply ridiculous. If someone cracked SHA256, it would be a global catastrophe, since endless security is based around SHA256.
3488  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which problems do bitcoin help to solve ? on: April 11, 2015, 10:22:05 PM
Seems like a fair analysis. I love all these images that you can show to people with a lot of information nicely condensed. Lets see if someone wants to counterargument or add some problems that bitcoin helps to solve.
3489  Economy / Economics / Re: Greece now targets tax evaders! next step cyprus style! on: March 25, 2015, 12:10:35 AM
Merkel no longer controls the process. Greece never should have gone into the deal, but more importantly, they were given an exchange rate far better than reality at the time. If the rate were an accurate assessment of their economy, though, they would not do it and that is not what Germany and France wanted.
3490  Economy / Economics / Re: EUR might drop below USD on: March 25, 2015, 12:07:17 AM

Is it possible that EUR might drop below USD in 2015? Syriza & ECB QE program
pushing price even lower against USD or do you think euro is at it's bottom right now
and is going to rise soon?
Discussion.

This is entirely possible since it is already so close to the US value.
If another Euro country asks for a bailout again this year, it is sure to happen.

Now, Greece is the only country with problems. The rest of countries have lower bond rates Than USA.

A lot of the south European countries if not all of them are struggling to pay their debts. Lots of them have big problems and we will see it unfold in the following months.
3491  Economy / Economics / Re: US Dollar collapse in 2015? on: March 25, 2015, 12:03:43 AM
Well too bad this doomsday scenario won't actually happen so you won't be able to say, "I told you so!" Buuuuut, now that I said that. If it happens you can come back to this and say it! (But it won't.)
3492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The 25 most exciting bitcoin startups on: March 25, 2015, 12:00:42 AM
I don't understand that author, where is Maidsafe?   Why is Filecoin listed and not Storj ?
Yeah, those are missing and lol at the Rippley shilling "Ripple: fixing the flaws in Bitcoin". What a giant tool that article writer.
3493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you support International Bitcoin Day? on: March 24, 2015, 11:57:54 PM
great idea. we as community can make the difference and make more non tech people aware of bitcoin and its benefits.
i'm sure if they know what it is and why it is better than traditional payment options they will definitely set a first step towards using bitcoin.
Yes it's a great idea, the problem is reaching a consensus. How do we decide the day that becomes Bitcoin day in a decentralized community? Cheesy

what is double spend ? what will happens with my coins ? i just tryd to move them from my old wallet to my new one
Interesting. I have never seen this before. Does this always happen when you send coins to your own wallet?? I would freak out if I saw that without knowledge.
3495  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN DROPPING - But, to what extend? on: March 18, 2015, 06:56:41 PM
in short term I see 270$ as a bottom,in the long term it could even touch the previous bottom around 160$

$270 the bottom? Nope. It already touched $267.XX level on Bitstamp and around $269 on Bitfinex.

There were reasons for the price to go down to below $200 level. I definitely can't see it going there again without major hack news.
We'll still have that big grey rainy cloud over bitcoin everytime a stupid ass exchange gets "hacked" even tho bitcoin itself it's safe as ever. When we get the first serious exchanges like the winklevoss ones, we can forget worrying about all of that.
3496  Economy / Economics / Re: I need bitcoin to be $690 to break even.....will I make it? on: March 18, 2015, 06:53:02 PM
Don't give yourself excuse to break even. Since you have waited for quite some time why not just hang on there a little. I don't expect price to gain a lot during the halving which is supposed to be around next year but there is a high probably we'll see bitcoin crawling up to the previous high after the following halving.

You expect it to approach $1000 around 2020? I think it'll be long abandoned by all but the ultimate die hards if it isn't much, much bigger by then.

1000$ by 2020, is a bit optimistic imo. I just hope it comes back to 600 and stays stable there.

Is this your break-even too, and are you going to sell your bitcoins as soon as they reach 600$? In other words, did you lose your faith by now?

He's delusional to think "1000$ by 2020" is optimistic. We'll reach that within two years again no doubt.

I have no doubt that BTC will reach $1000 within next two years. I just wonder when the price will always be higher than $1000.

Once we break the last ATH again the floor will be 1000 no doubt. We'll go to like 1800, or even 2000 or god knows, then if there is a second crash, when we approach 1000 people will panic buy.
3497  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: March 18, 2015, 06:48:37 PM
Lets say I want to buy bitcoins today and store them for 20 years to use a my retirement fund.  Live comfortably, but don't need to buy a yacht or anything.  How many do you think I would need to buy?

Impossible to answer, bitcoin may not even exist in 20 years.  I guess the only answer one could give would be "more than you think".
Lol Bitcoin will for sure exists in 20 years. The blockchain is the best invention on the 21 century and Bitcoin will be the leading currency/store of value. This is not a "oh but facebook surpassed myspace" thing.
3498  Economy / Economics / Re: 3-5% daily decline trend is back on: March 18, 2015, 06:46:26 PM
I bought some BTC at the nice low point it was on. Its weird how it fluctuates so randomly when there are no real reasons in sight. I was trading some stocks the other day and had some first hand info of a penny share signing a new contract with a new company. I bought some shares at .05 a piece, the signing was made public on all exchanges and there was a 48% jump when the market closed.

The price fluctuations may seem random because there's no great or awful news out but really the price fluctuations are far from random and have very real reasons. The reasons are just more simple than you expect. It's all linked to supply and demand. If there are more people that want to buy bitcoin than want to sell it today they price will go up. If there are more people that want to sell than buy today the price will go down. The price will travel to an equilibrium between buyers and sellers. In fact, this is the only reason that drives price. Now positive or negative news can influence price, but not unless the news is significant enough to cause more buyers than sellers (or vice versa).

Here's some more information on the topic: http://futures.tradingcharts.com/learning/supply_and_demand.html
Supply and demand is sharp and real way to read price, but the current price is very different from the perceived price. Namely, a lot of investors think Bitcoin will be a success, but they aren't gotten all in yet just to keep buying cheap coins.
3499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you earn your bitcoins ? on: March 18, 2015, 06:44:04 PM
i am new in this bitcoin thing but i will go for signature campain.faucets need really hard work but dicussing sometopics and getting bitcoin is fun
Hi welcome to the forum. Most ways to gain bitcoin "for free" are a bit of a waste of time if you want to earn a decent amount. The best way is to spend a certain % of your income on it and convert to Bitcoin. For me the sig campaing is a little extra.
3500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Regulation The End For Bitcoin? on: March 18, 2015, 06:42:37 PM
Regulation just means some people will flock to unregulated networks (like my own ..) .. So it is hardly the 'end of bitcoin'
I don't really understand the function of bitcoin mixers (yes even if I have a sig campaing of a bitcoin mixer running). My question is: how do you know the bitcoins you get are clean and not stolen or criminal related? can't this be a problem for you?
