Please God, let them put in coin control.

Yea coin control is a long time coming... would be great for privacy enhancement.
642  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Plans for 0.9 on: March 25, 2013, 07:14:19 PM
Is there a roadmap for the next version(s) of Bitcoin?

I was only able to find this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/User:Gmaxwell/features
643  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: block.version=1 blocks will all be orphaned soon on: March 24, 2013, 08:58:15 PM
The reason all this is important is not just that some miners will be forced to upgrade or give up Bitcoin when the 95% is reached. What's important is that this is a proof of concept for implementation of changes in the "wish list" and "hard fork" baskets.

The block version mechanism for a majority consensus on accepting such changes is essential if Bitcoin is to succeed by capturing a significant chunk of the fiat and payments market share. News from the EU this week shows the dark alternative of trusting fiat systems forever.

Yes, exactly. +1
Just got to 94%.

Edit:
11 blocks to go. Block 227930 should be it.
644  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: block.version=1 blocks will all be orphaned soon on: March 24, 2013, 06:38:47 PM
A fresh v1 turned up at 227835, and that caused the finish line to jump forward.

The 50th oldest v1 is currently at 226951, so the cutover now should be 227951.  As of writing, the block number is 227851 so that's 100 to go.

Who might these unknowns be who haven't upgraded? Solo miners? Botnets still possible?

Did anyone just get confirmation satoshis? It's not Wednesday  Shocked

Confirmed. They have now paid back everything from the IPO.
646  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: block.version=1 blocks will all be orphaned soon on: March 24, 2013, 04:43:15 PM
FYI, as of 227743, counting v1 blocks backwards puts the 50th version=1 block at about 226930.

That means, at 227930 (assuming no more v=1 blocks), there will be 950 of the last 1000 and a 95% supermajority.

That's roughly 185 blocks from now.  24-30 hours.  It should be all over in time for breakfast in the US on Monday morning.

Of course, there's probably going to be 5-10 more v1 blocks so I'm guestimating 227940.

Edit: 24-30 hours is wishful thinking given the spike in hash rate.  Probably < 24 hours now.

Thanks for doing this analysis!

Just before 1pm EST: We are currently at 62 out of the latest 1000 blocks on version 1 (6.20%) and 938 out of the latest 1000 blocks on version 2 (93.80%)

So long and thanks for all the bitcoin Deepbit?

I am missing something, is deepbit not compatible with the updates?

Please fill me in!

It is now Smiley When that post was made it wasn't compatible.
648  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Decentralised crime fighting using private set intersection protocols on: March 24, 2013, 03:15:30 AM
do you hear the words coming out of your mouth???   taint the blockchain...are you fucking nuts?  letting people get to pick and choose who can or cant use their money? ummm..cause we dont like you? I think this goes against the whole principle of btc.

" Even if the government runs that blacklist"  ...wow.

These technologies should be anticipated and discussed because if feasible it is likely they will be built eventually. He did not suggest adding this to the protocol itself. It would be an additional service provided on top of Bitcoin. The technical considerations are interesting ones and this is worth discussing even if one disagrees for political reasons.

About to hit 91%. I think we will hit the v2 within the week.
652  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: block.version=1 blocks will all be orphaned soon on: March 23, 2013, 04:27:41 AM
Up to 89% now. Not long to go.

Wow, what an amazing gesture. Thank you on behalf of the community.
654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: "Error opening block database. Do you want to rebuild the block database now?" on: March 23, 2013, 02:47:44 AM
I ran a long SMART test which took 2+ hours. I says the drive is in perfect health. So no explanation really for the error as far as I can tell.

I think the issue wasn't on your part, instead with the recent Bitcoin 0.8.1 reference client. Developers have tweaked DB parameters in order to comply with older 0.7 client limitations and it seems like LevelDB started complaining. It only affects 0.8.0 to 0.8.1 upgrade. Solution is given by @inglian a few posts up.

Hope it helps.

Thanks, that makes sense! It works well now Smiley Something like this should be included in the release notes though. (Weird however because the issue didn't happen the first time I opened the client after the upgrade.)

656  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Raleigh/Durham, NC Meetup on: March 21, 2013, 11:47:39 PM
Hello,

I would like to announce the a new bitcoin meetup in the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill area.  http://www.meetup.com/Triangle-Bitcoin-Meetup/

Right now there are three of us who will be meeting every first Saturday of the month at Panera Bread in Breir Creek.  I know there are many more bitcoiners here in the Triangle and it will be nice to be able to meet some of them in person.  If you live in the Triangle area, please think about showing up to one of our meetups.

Thanks!

+1 Also good for people from Chapel Hill.

Deepbit has switched over tonight but as eleuthria points out we will still be short of the 95% supermajority.
658  Economy / Securities / Re: [Investment fund] Gamma Bitcoin Fund [Closing] on: March 21, 2013, 02:48:40 AM
Woud it be possible to get the list of investors / holdings spreadsheet updated as these payouts happen so we can keep track of how much we might still expect to receive?
There is no amount you can expect to receive, as discussed earlier. The payouts are based on the amount we can liqudate not the amount held in the accounts.
No guarantee was made of this balance nor of any profits potentially made.
I will pay out all liquid assets and the dividends from all illiquid assets until there's no assets left.
//DeaDTerra

I realise this, and perhaps 'expect' was the wrong word to use here. I was just after some way of tracking how much has been 'recovered' since the fund announced it was closing other than looking at my relevant BTC address.
So far about 1400 BTC has been paid out.
About 600 BTC has been recovered so far and will be paid out after the next AM dividend.
//DeaDTerra

Thanks DT! Looks like ASICMINER has been paid out again today. Good news. Can you give us an estimate as to when it will be paid out to us? Thanks!
Tomorrow or on Friday Smiley

Yay, thanks!

Ran chkdsk /r overnight. It didn't detect any bad blocks, bad file records, or unindexed files. It did discover free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap and it did clean up unused index entries/security descriptors.
