He's too smart to sell them at this cheap "price" but also too smart to be in it for the money.

I am going to make a pre-announcement to serve some open questions.
a) financials statements are currently in preparation and start getting processed next week. Dependent on how long the accountant needs, the financial statements should be accessible shortly after
b) FC has committed to making a dividend payment soon to clear OTC and provide a new public checkpoint for shareholder balances.
c) The need for a better information handling with shareholders is being recognized and it's been suggested to prepare a dedicated website to handle company matters. It's part of an internal restructuring effort. I'll let the responsible person provide more details, but I assume that suggestions from shareholders on the best way to implement it (e.g. forum, realtime chat room, ticket systems) are welcome.
d) the good news is that the company is alive and kicking. Based on my assessment they have a solid product and new stuff in the pipeline, which should allow the company to generate revenues to sustain growth. The biggest advantage of AM is its focus on cost competitiveness and solid relationships with suppliers, which allows them to grow the company organically. The bad news is that a lot of opportunity got lost in FY14 and supply chain and product problems prevented AM from generating the expected profit margins. That said FY14 has been a bad year for most companies in the mining space, and thus AM is not a particular exception.
e) AM has enough funding to stay in business independent of BTC valuation for a considerable amount of time.
f) The low valuation of AM has not gone unnoticed. While valuation is currently not an impediment to AM's business, it is recognized as a weakness and may have to be dealt with appropriately at a future point in time.

Is there any chance of getting shares onto a distributed exchange to facilitate price discovery?

324  Economy / Speculation / Re: 13,500,000 coins passed on: November 18, 2014, 07:28:30 PM
There's a limit on the price not least because too much electricity would be used to mine the coins.

i.e. If BTC were to go to $500,000 in this era it would cause a catastrophic mining bubble:

   $500,000 x 25 = $12,500,000 per block = $75,000,000 per hour

$75 million per hour would drive the mining to attempt to use 675 GW.  This is about 30% of all the power generated on the planet.

Yes, I wrote this in response to an Anoncoin bounty (which I note at the bottom of the article). Hopefully ANC can get ZKP support soon but it is not an easy thing to do.

Guys, all we gotta do is get 10 million people to buy 1 bitcoin. How hard could that be?
Bonus points if they do it at the same time.
332  Economy / Speculation / Re: [prediction] Next spike $560,000 14 months from now on: November 16, 2014, 07:06:34 PM
I have been following cryptocurrencies since I was in high school in the late 90s (Tim May was an influence, as was Orlin Grabbe, who most people here have not heard of).

My main mistake with bitcoin when reading about it in 2008/2009 was thinking the common man would not have reason to use it this half of the century.

Once it became worth $1 it was apparent that this assumption was incorrect because the speculation cycle had kicked into effect. I underestimated the ability of bitcoin to be valued at even 1 cent. After this moment it was off to the races.

Now we are in the seeding stage and it is possible we will have to wait for halvings for intense growth -- that is, depending on how much speculation will be going on, and how these thinly traded markets are manipulated.

Many currently underestimate the ability of bitcoin to be valued at $1,000 or $10,000. In time they too will come to see the error of their ways.

1.35 crore.

Each new block is a milestone towards killing the inflation monster.

I'm in India right now (I'm from the US) and the same thing has happened to me again, and again. I can't tell you how frustrating it can be. It has happened in all sorts of forms... I do have a bunch of interesting stories.

Maybe a friend can WU or MG you some $ for a bit? Or even better, send it to you with BTC and you can sell them locally for cash.

I've had problems with banks, credit cards, and PayPal. Only bitcoin has worked flawlessly. It proves the point we are trying to make here. ATMs are also annoying and in India carrying lots of cash is a pain (you do need tons of paper bills to pay for anything marginally expensive as each unit is not worth much... plus tons of change (10 rupee notes) as many people cannot break larger bills).

Thanks for your acknowledgments!
I truly appreciate all your comments (and tips  Smiley)

Great work Trolololo.

Can't see it mentioned yet, maybe it is elsewhere, but do you have a version which utilizes the "market capitalization" (monetary base), instead of the price? For the first decade this may produce a somewhat different curve.

No, Risto also suggested that, but I don't have any "market capitalization" version yet.

Actually working on calculating the "real" R^2 value for the logarithmic regression, and in other curve shapes...

Agreed, a market cap version would be awesome as we are still experiencing high inflation. Smiley

337  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What can governments do that a regular person cannot? on: November 13, 2014, 07:30:37 PM
A fun thread to list all of the things that governments can do but regular people cannot. Such as:

Government can take your money by force (taxation).
Government can kidnap people and put them in a cage (arrest and detain).
Government can decide what you can and cannot eat/drink/smoke (food bans, alcohol laws, drug laws)
Government can force you to inject chemicals into your body (vaccination laws)
Government can inject chemicals into your body to kill you (death penalty)
Government can balance their budgets by printing more money (Federal Reserve)

Can you think of any others?
Briefly cause a portion of the Earth to heat to tens of millions of degrees vaporizing uncountable numbers of people at once.
Watch everything you do, read all your private correspondence, and listen to your private communications.
Manipulate the entire society which lives around you thus limiting the abilities of your fellow humans.
Gas millions to death.

But we have to give someone the ability to do the above things otherwise who would build the roads?!

Just like the usual interpretation of a failure to break daily MA20 is hugely bullish ("if the market is weak, it's actually strong")
Can you explain that please?

Sarcasm?
Ah sorry I missed it. Smiley I thought this might be a very sophisticated form of technical analysis. Wink

I love what you have done here, but I think there should be some adjustments to the numbers. Use $0.08 per KWH and 0.68W/GH. The numbers won't look as optimistic for us, but they are probably more realistic for near future calculations.

Even the antminer S3 is already 0.78W/GH and the Antminer S4 gen will take it down to 0.68. As far as cost for electricity goes it can get pretty cheap in some parts of china where there is a lot of mining power and good contracts through the use of government officials. Even for a very urban area like LA, California the base fee is $0.08 for residents (which quickly scales up based on usage). Mid-west states can get a stable $0.08/KWH for agricultural purposes.

I had to shut down all my physical miners the other day. Here in Massachusetts they just increased the winter power rates by 37%, went from $0.16 to $0.22 overnight =(((

I think you deserve a government bailout. TBTNM - To Big To Not Mine

Don't save the banks. Save the miners! Energy subsidy for all mining operations. Secure the network.

(I promise this has nothing to do with keeping coin price high Wink)
