781  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: The bitcoin wallet address you entered is not valid on: November 17, 2020, 01:03:13 PM

782  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BIP39 12 and 24 seed words on: November 17, 2020, 11:59:50 AM
Some people call the initial entropy your seed (both with and without the appended checksum)

Which, technically, is absolutely correct.

lots of people call your 12 or 24 words your seed

The 12/24 words (= Mnemonic Code) technically are a representation of the seed which makes it much easier for humans to write it down.
The information of the mnemonic code is the same as the information from the seed, but the data (= representation of information) is different.

This is the only statement which is wrong. The mnemonic code (or just: mnemonic) is not the same as "the" (doesn't matter which) seed.

and some people call the 512 bit output from PBKDF2 your seed.

Which, technically, is also correct since it is an pseudo-random input used for a deterministic key derivation.

783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I Found my old wallet.dat file on: November 17, 2020, 11:41:33 AM
Please read the pinned thread called [READ BEFORE POSTING] Tech Support Help Request Format.

Then, use the format specified in the thread.

It is kind of annoying having to ask tons of questions, just to be able to help you.
Do yourself and everyone else a favor and read the pinned thread first, and then edit the OP with all the information which might be relevant for your problem.

You'll get more people contributing and offering advises if they don't first have to ask you tons of questions and guess what the problem might be based on almost no useful information you provided.
784  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: YetiCold.com Bitcoin Storage? on: November 17, 2020, 11:36:46 AM
You might want to mark what you have copied from their github, which is roughly 90%+ of your post.
Why not simply using quotes?

Further, the whole project seems a little bit suspicious due to the inconsistency when reading.
First, they are talking about Seeds and HW wallets, and later they talk about backing up the individual private keys.

I don't see a single reason to use that project over generating a multisig HD wallet offline yourself. It wouldn't even be more time consuming or complicated doing everything yourself.
Additionally, i dislike the idea of using actual coins to generate the entropy. The random number generator of a linux system is more than just sufficient for that task and saves tons of time.
785  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Please critique my paper-wallet creation steps on: November 17, 2020, 11:13:02 AM
Looks good overall.
More of an addition instead of criticism:

19) If you want to use the BTC, repeat step 1-5 (make sure you start a new session). When you get to step 6, instead of "create a new seed", select "I already have a seed". On the next screen enter your seed phrase from step 8.

This will give you full access to your wallet and crypto currency.

That's correct.
Please keep in mind that the most securely generated paper wallet is worthless if you make mistakes later on such as using a network-connected computer to actually spend the BTC by signing a transaction.

It is crucial to sign the transaction offline. Since the offline wallet won't know which UTXO it has control of, the transaction needs to be generated on an online device using the master public key (does not have to be kept secure, just for privacy reasons) and then transferred to the offline device to be signed.

Also, if you intend to print it out instead of simply writing it down, do not use a web- or network printer.

If I need to send bitcoin from this Electrum wallet I just created, do I need only the seed phrase to do so? No need to know the private key for instance?

Correct. The mnemonic code is used to derive the private keys (the wallet software is doing this for you).

Basically, considering I know only the steps above, which is only the seed phrase, master public key and the address, is it sufficient enough to be able to move and have access to my coins and that is all I need to know?

Yes.

Ah. Also anonym?

Na dann gebt mir doch mal eure USt-IdNr.

Da hätte in Bruchteil gereicht.

790  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Didnt store 12 word phrase for coinbase wallet on: November 17, 2020, 08:47:06 AM
[...] but ETFbitcoin said the OP could still get back the wallet seeds he didn't save or write down through his phone storage. How is that possible when he doesn't remember or write down any word in the wallet seeds.

Because, if you read the whole thread, he is talking about file recovery.
The seed was stored in the mobile before it got deleted. A recovery does have a very slim chance of recovering that piece of information.

But since we are talking about mobiles (which means: flash memory), the whole tasks instantly got way more complicated than when dealing with HDD's. The chances are extremely slim.
791  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Totally Clueless Here: Ledger Live Does Not Show Any Coins on: November 16, 2020, 06:05:16 PM
I'm with HCP here.. Ledger generates 24 words mnemonics by default.
Where did you get your 12 word mnemonic from?

You might have made it way more complex now, that you reset your device and used a different(?) mnemonic.

Did you check the mnemonic code paper card thing where ledger wants you to write down your mnemonic code? Do you still have it? Does it really only contain a 12 word mnemonic?

Also, do you remember what your addresses containing your coins started with? You need to specify the correct type when adding an account in ledger live (addresses starting with 1.. = legacy, 3.. = P2SH / nested segwit and bc1.. = segwit / bech32 / native segwit).
792  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: can not open the app on macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 on: November 16, 2020, 05:57:34 PM
Can you try to start electrum via the command line and report back with the error occurring?
If the message is too large or too unclear, copy and paste the complete output to pastebin and provide us the url.
793  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2FA Google authentication on: November 16, 2020, 05:55:34 PM
Google Authenticator now allows users to create and download a backup of their codes. Were you able to import this backup into Aegis or did you add the 2FA codes manually?
That's not quite correct... GA now allows you to create a single "QR Code" on screen that you're supposed to scan with Google Authenticator on a "new" device and it will import all your codes for you... but there is no option to "save" that QR code and screenshot is disabled within the app.

This exact QR can still be used as a backup.
While the application does not allow screenshots to be taken, other applications which have the permission to add an overlay over other apps, still can save that QR, so it can act as a form of backup.

Then, whenever needed, a scan with GA or other authenticator apps who support the format, will restore the saved seeds.

795  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How I make 10 000$ month? on: November 16, 2020, 05:26:05 PM
[...]
So, if you had 7 high ranking, well trusted alt accounts, and you'd get them in the top-7 signature campains and you would make one high-quality, on-topic, well researched post EVERY 20 minutes EVERY day of the month, you could probably earn about 10k/month.
[...]

And that's, why you aren't doing the typical 10k$ per month here.

You need 14 high ranked, well trusted accounts in the top 7 signature campaigns breaking the alt-account rule and 3 people from a poor country you pay 5$ daily to make high quality posts reviewed by people who earn 7$ per day.
This way, you'll be able to earn 10k $ per month without doing anything  Smiley

/sarcasm

Okay how do i get this signature thing??
Im interested Smiley

You sir, won't be ever getting into a quality signature campaign  Smiley
796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin exchange wallets - How do they know on: November 16, 2020, 04:58:32 PM
But why don't they use multiple addresses (like 10,000 different ones)? They actively reduce privacy on the entire network because of this.

Only the exchanges can answer this question.

But i'd assume to show everyone that they still own the funds and that they are safely stored.

What about mixers? How can Binance know that someone used a mixer? Of course, there is always the option of using it yourself but is that really it?

It depends.
Some mixers have pattern which shows you that these coins come from a mixer, but still doesn't allow to connect the input from the mixer to the output.

It's like with coinjoins. You'll always know whether the coins came from a coinjoin. But you won't know which inputs corresponds to the output.
797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2013 wallet with known passphrase still incorrect on: November 16, 2020, 04:55:09 PM
So they can't steal my coins even if they have my wallet.dat and the recovered passphrase? That's sort of reassuring.

No, that's not what he said.

If you send a company the wallet hash and what you think the passphrase is they can't use the hash to build your wallet.

If you send them a hash which they then try to bruteforce, they won't be able to steal your funds.
If you send them your wallet file, they are able to take your funds.
798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Does it make sense since 2009(Bitcoin Core) on: November 16, 2020, 04:46:38 PM
[...] until now the software is running all the years now it is in 2016 it started from 2009 before 4 day Since I installed again does anyone know anything about this?

Core is synchronizing.
This means the whole blockchain is being donwloaded and verified.

Afterwards you'll be able to see the balance of your wallet.

However, if core already synced past the date you didn't transact anymore (e.g. already synced to 2016 already, but you didn't use core since 2014), the shown balance is the final balance of your wallet.

And before working on your wallet file, please create several copies and preferably store them on different drives.
799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recover private keys from a corrupt wallet file on: November 16, 2020, 04:44:35 PM
OP, please be careful with newbies trying to help you.

Especially if they claim to be some sort of "wallet recovery" or similair.

There is only one trusted wallet recovery service. And that's Dave's recovery service. You should assume every newbie contacting you is a scammer.
Just because someone has recovery in their name, doesn't mean they actually know what they are doing.

Currently using Mojave 10.14.6 and the latest Electrum

Did you try to start electrum via the command line to check for errors?

Feel free to copy the output after electrum crashed and upload it to pastebin. There might be some hint why electrum crashes on your system.
