1161  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wallet on: September 04, 2020, 12:58:31 PM
The safest wallets are hardware ones. If you can't afford it, take a look at non-custodial mobile or desktop apps. I use Ownr wallet, it's relatively small and less known than Bluewallet or Samourai, but still reliable.

Why exactly should a new closed-source wallet be reliable?
I'd never recommend a closed source wallet over samourai or electrum.

And there are other (cheaper) ways than a hardware wallet to store coins securely.
With an unused device, an air-gapped wallet for example. Or a paper wallet. Both of them are kind of impractical when it comes to frequently transacting, but are definitely secure if managed properly.

1162  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Wallets have new update waiting. on: September 04, 2020, 12:54:46 PM
It seems like Trezor is bringing out one hotfix after another.
To me, it seems like the device is broken itself, but kept together with patches.

I mean.. it works.. but it's not how it is supposed to be. A new generation device is needed IMO.
1163  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I need Sherlock Holmes to help me find the PIP installed Electrum, LOL! on: September 04, 2020, 12:51:44 PM
For future reference:

To make sure that the software you are installing, gets installed in your users directory (instead of the root directory) and to run pip without sudo, you need to use the --user parameter:

Code:
pip install --user PACKAGE

You should use sudo pip only if you want to install something system-wide (which should rarely be the case).
1164  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Stuck on "Preparing Database" and Armory never shows "Online" on: September 04, 2020, 12:13:43 PM
I see now that Armory is in fact working on something; filling up this directory with files, over 1000 (76Gig) so far: D:\somedir\Crypto\Armory\Bitcoin Blockchain Data\blocks.
Is there any explanation on what this is, and how long it will take to complete?

It's the blockchain data.
Armory needs core do be installed and fully synced.

You are starting core with the datadir argument D:\\somedir\\Crypto\\Armory\\Bitcoin Blockchain Data':

Code:
2020-09-04 09:55:09 (INFO) -- ArmoryUtils.pyc:689 - Executing popen: [u'D:\\somedir\\Crypto\\Bitcoin\\daemon\\bitcoind.exe', '-datadir=D:\\somedir\\Crypto\\Armory\\Bitcoin Blockchain Data']

The blockchain is being downloaded, processed and saved in this directory.

If you already have the blockchain downloaded, you need to point armory towards the correct directory.
1165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lost coins through bitcoin SV on: September 04, 2020, 11:56:55 AM
I did import all of my keys into the wallet. Then there was a transaction with all of my coins...

Hopefully only your scamcoins got stolen, and your BTC were already transferred.
This is one of the reasons we always recommend to claim shitcoins in a virtual machine.

Should I be worried that the malware wallet uploaded everything it can get to a server somewhere and that some others have all of it?

Probably not since it would be quite useless for an attacker aiming for cryptocurrencies.
However the possibility (while being low) exists.

Could the malware wallet see all of my browsing history and all of my saved accounts into sites (usually I'm not saveing that but could be some site or two..).  If I could see my history it probably can see my facebock.com/user/myusername.

Yes, definitely.

I havn't used my computer since it happened. Is there any loggs that windows saves that I can get anything from?

Quite a lot is being logged in the event log, but you probably won't find out what exactly has been uploaded without hiring some forensic expert.

Could the malware wallet infect images and files or could I copy them from that computer and save them in another location?

While unlikely, it is possible.

Note that i answered your questions, whether a malware could do that.
Personally, i believe it is extremely unlikely since the malware only wanted to get your coins.

Most crypto stealing malware is extremely simple and not as devastating as it could be.
However, reinstalling your OS would be your best bet to be on the safe side.
1166  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Gehackt? on: September 03, 2020, 07:11:19 PM

1167  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Current Shipping Time and Carrier? on: September 03, 2020, 05:45:55 PM
Can others from the US who bought a nano ledger confirm there is a signature required when receiving it?  I don't remember years ago if i had to sign it or not so just want to know.

Why is that important?
The sender is responsible for the delivery of the product.

If someone steals it, they have to replace it. What are you scared of? Theft? Manipulation?
1168  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet was hacked! on: September 03, 2020, 05:15:21 PM
Is there anyway to find where the money has sent to?

Sure, by looking at the transaction on an explorer.
But unfortunately you'll only see which address received your coins, not who that person in control over the private key is.
If your coins have been stolen, the chance of getting them back is almost zero.

More important is to find out how your coins got stolen. If your computer is infected, more data could be at risk.

Did you receive a popup as shown by erikoy? Or where did you electrum download from?
What OS are you using and where is your mnemonic code stored (PC, paper, email, ..) ?

1169  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with Electrum on: September 03, 2020, 05:04:03 PM
I'm free to participate in any discussion.

Yes, you are.
But unfortunately your sciolism may hurt others. Especially people who are new to crypto and/or InfoSec.

It is not my fault that you don't understand my wording.

I completely understood you.
You are using an OS which has reached its end of life 2 years ago and therefore is outdated and risky to use:
BTW, my Mac is still run by Al Captain which I think is the best OS  I dealt  with and I didn't intend to upgrade it in the nearest future.

I suggested to send from Tails (bolded for you if you still don't understand that)which is highly secure OS.

It is not.
Tails is a distro based on debian. It is not more or less secure than debian.
Tails has tools installed to preserve the users privacy and anonymity. For example by routing everything via TOR by default.

It has no direct effect on the security whatsoever.
1170  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Gehackt? on: September 03, 2020, 04:54:06 PM

Super Smiley
1171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: rescan wallet.dat old on: September 03, 2020, 02:57:46 PM
You can pretty much ignore the post from keychainX here.

As mentioned in your other thread, if you don't know anything about your password, your chances are pretty much zero.
Rescanning is something completely different.

I am assuming you bought that wallet file. Everyone (absolutely everyone) selling wallet files is a scammer.
1172  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Gehackt? on: September 03, 2020, 02:36:20 PM

Die 12 Wörter stellen all deine private keys her.

1174  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is Exodus.io wallet safe to store BTC for a longtime on: September 03, 2020, 02:15:05 PM
No. Exodus is one of the worst wallets available.
  • Missing features (e.g. Multi signature)
  • Bad security (Seed exposed in memory after unlocking the wallet)
  • Closed source

Since you are explicitly asking for a bitcoin wallet, do not use exodus.
If you don't want to download the whole blockchain, use a lightweight wallet. If you don't care much about your privacy, electrum. If you want to stay more private, use wasabi.

Nevertheless, the security of a desktop wallet can only be as good as your PC is protected.
For higher amounts, better use offline storage or get a hardware wallet.
1175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat in 2016 on: September 03, 2020, 02:08:14 PM
I am looking for a rescan wallet.dat
not bitcoin-qt

A rescan?

You are not "looking for a rescan".
As previously mentioned, if you don't recall what your password might be (e.g. you know the length, charset, anything..) and the password is longer than a few chars (like 5-7), then your chances are pretty much zero.

If you don't have an old backup (prior to changing the password) or your password written down anywhere, you are unfortunately out of luck.

Oh, and btw.. if you bought the wallet file, you got scammed. There is nothing to get out of it.
1176  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help with Electrum on: September 03, 2020, 02:02:38 PM
BTW, my Mac is still run by Al Captain which I think is the best OS  I dealt  with and I didn't intend to upgrade it in the nearest future.

And exactly that is the reason you should not give any security advises at all.
El Capitan has reached its end of life in august 2018.

No one should be using an OS which didn't receive any security updates within the last 2 years. And especially not when storing crypto (or any other sensitive data).

You might not care about your security and privacy at all, and that is fine. That's what you are showing us.
But don't participate in discussions about security with such statements:
Actually there is no need in your Mac upgrade [...]
1177  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Ledger (Live) - Angebote / Diskussion / Hilfe on: September 03, 2020, 01:56:33 PM

"Pending" heißt in diesem Fall unbestätigt ?

MEW) versenden.
1178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can I use unconfirmed funds? on: September 03, 2020, 01:49:30 PM
Any transaction you make with unconfirmed inputs will (ever) get confirmed only after the input(s) get confirmed, [...]

Actually it doesn't have to be only after the first transaction got confirmed, but can be at the same time (i.e. same block) too.
That's how CPFP works, the second transaction pays a fee high enough for both transactions to be included in a timely manner in the same block.

You can and this is what Child-Pays-For-Parent method is. You have to pay enough fee to get your previous transaction to get confirmed. But if the previous tx is sent by someone else, you may face problem if they intend to double spend. For example, sending tx with low fee to you and later using the same input with higher fee to another of their address.
Therefore, if the original sender is you-> no problem; if someone else-> wait for confirmation.

That's a double spend using RBF (Replace-by-Fee), not CPFP.
1179  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: (NEED HELP ASAP) Bitcoin wallet problems on: September 03, 2020, 01:46:43 PM
Tickets I send are marked as solved but there is no respose on my messages in them.

This sounds really weird.
Did you receive any email regarding your ticket? Maybe in your spam folder?

I'd definitely try to open another ticket. How exactly did you describe the problem?
Maybe they didn't understand you?
1180  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S Won't Turn On Help on: September 03, 2020, 01:31:59 PM
So once i have my seed and also have the nano ledger s... you would recommend resetting the device once or twice right just in case... even though its new right?

A new nano? No, there is no reason to do so.
Make sure to use a new seed (created by the nano) tho, not any potentially pregenerated one.

Now once I do this, I would go and enter my seed on the nano ledger when its connected to my laptop right?

Yes.

Now... if i were back in the US and say i wanted to restore my coins into electrum wallet on my current laptop... i can still do this right?  So if i type in my seed and it confirms in electrum, then my coins will show up in my electrum wallet?  Now this is what is a bit confusing.  Then say i want to transfer the coins to the new nano ledger s.  Well.... you just have to type the seed into the nano ledger right?  But what is confusing is when you do this... what happens to the coins in electrum?  Does it go to 0?

 Huh
Your coins are associated to your public keys.
And the corresponding private keys are derived from the seed.

It doesn't matter which wallet you use to access them. If you create a transaction, your balance obviously will go to 0 (when sending everything).
I don't get what you are asking  Huh

Because i read you can put in the seed into any hardware wallet or other compatible wallet and electrum works as well.

You can use a BIP39 mnemonic code in electrum, but can't use an native electrum mnemonic in any other wallet (almost).
