1021  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The First Law of ASICS on: January 18, 2013, 01:07:59 AM
If I made a machine, that 'you' paid me to build, that can make me millions of dollars with the only effort needed is plugging in a machine and letting it do its thing, while claiming its not ready yet, I would be stupid not to.

And I think any company is stupid not to.
If you think that the ASIC companies wont turn the machines on, to put it blunt, you're an idiot.

Why would you sell a bank before you made money?
Why would you ship a product that you MADE profit on, but would make more profit in 2 weeks turning it on than you made shipping it?

Honestly a better approach would be refund everyone's money +10% interest, that's what I would do.
It would take them 7-8 months to make the same amount of money as everyone's preorders.  Obviously, everyone would cancel their orders by then, and they would have a net gain of zero vs conducting themselves as a legitimate company.  And that's only if Bitcoin price held (which it would likely not once people figured out what they were doing).

How many times does this have to be rehashed?

7-8 months to make as much as the pre-orders, but not 7-8 months to purchase the machine itself at their price.

Why not sell something that's cheap that has a bitcoin address on it? If you sell something like a blank CD with a bitcoin address as its front logo design it will cost you a buck maybe but you're still making $10-$15 over its value profit anyway.
1024  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MoneyPak on: January 17, 2013, 07:57:54 AM
They can be reversed.  I have heard that if the person cancels the credit card transaction used to purchase the moneypak, then paypal will take away the value of the moneypak from your account.  I have also heard that some stores will even allow you to return a moneypak, but that is unverified.

All I know is, moneypaks might be a little bit safer than using paypal directly, but certainly not fool-proof, and certainly still something that people can abuse.

You cant use a credit or debit card has to be cash.

You can.

You just makin shit up? It says on the receipt payment declined

1025  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MoneyPak on: January 17, 2013, 07:33:52 AM
So always get a receipt+MP pic/scan, match the MP public code to the receipt, and ensure that it was purchased with cash. Reject if not cash-purchased.
Seems like a fairly solid way to go about it...!  As long as no store can give the user a refund and cancel the moneypak, anyway!

EDIT:  I would also be wary of refund requests made here:  https://www.moneypak.com/RefundRequest.aspx

If they can prove they purchased the moneypak, and began a refund request after someone else had added those funds to their paypal account, would the service outright deny them the refund?  Or would they withdraw the funds from the paypal account and refund the original purchaser?

Use your MoneyPak number only with businesses on our approved list. If anyone else asks for your MoneyPak number or information from your receipt, it’s probably a scam. Don’t give your MoneyPak number to pay for something you buy through the classifieds or to collect a prize or sweepstakes. Do not give away your receipt information to another party either. If you give your MoneyPak number or information about the purchase transaction to a criminal, Green Dot is not responsible for paying you back. Your MoneyPak is not a bank account. The funds are not insured against loss.

Please keep these 7 tips in mind when using MoneyPak. Green Dot is not responsible for the quality or non-receipt of any goods or services you buy using your MoneyPak.

1027  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are MtGox scammers? on: January 17, 2013, 07:25:55 AM
HUGE SCAMMER!

Kept my money hostage, wanted me to comply with KYC documents when no one on my legal firm knows who the fuck is Mark Karpeles and why does he need my documents for bitcoin trading.

But the real scam Mr MagicalTux pulls off in front of everybody is this.

MagicalTux has an account in mtgox, He sporadically adds balance to his account by going directly into tje Mysql database and adding the value.

He then generates a Mtgox code and CASHES the code Via AurumXchange or The Other Site.

He effectively pulls off the same exact scam The FED and Bernanke pulls on you and your savings.

Good news, he will soon be arrested.

Maria.

Hmm if this were true, wouldn't that mean that 21,000,000 bitcoins would not be the maximum coins in circulation? All he would have to do is replace fake coins to cover withdrawals but the funds that are sitting storage are funding the replacements unknown to the holder since coins are just sitting. The only way anyone would find out is if 100% of coins were taken out.

1029  Other / Meta / Re: Sales of accounts and invites to invite-only sites on: January 14, 2013, 05:27:16 PM

Admin and staff were first approached December 21, 2012 regarding the topic of illegal sales of hacked/compromised accounts and illegal secondary sales of unauthorized transfers of accounts based on provisional access to database services.  Over the past 18 days individual staff have been approached top to bottom including developers.  Nobody wants to challenge Theymos on this issue which he would prefer to ignore, nor does anyone want to clean up this mess before it spirals out of control and harms the reputation of the currency and this forum. I've provided enough evidence publicly and privately to indicate an issue persists. I'm not going to stick around and continue to defend the best interests of the currency or the forum in this thread if none of the staff or development team want any real change to occur. It's pointless to do so. I'm also not going to stick around while mods ignore continued defamation. I only hope that enemies of the currency don't use this unresolved issue as ammunition, I would be deeply saddened if that happened.

I'm done with this thread.

Lol you cant judge a currency based off what its spent on, that's like saying you wont ever use the $1 USD because most of them have been inside strippers thongs and tits (which I'm sure some have STD's), used to snort cocaine, and various pills.
1030  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: What if the government... on: January 14, 2013, 05:57:48 AM
Bitcoins illegal?
Citcoins?
Ditcoins?
Litcoins?

I guess they can ban bitcoins, as long as everyone is cool with updating their client to change the name.

Can admin let us know where the hits came from?
1032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be at CES2013 (Official Thread) on: January 13, 2013, 07:31:37 PM
Why does it matter if a payment processor matched up with BFL, they were doing their own thing. Bitpay is the processor, and BFL is how to get the coins. Simple enough logic.
1033  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Bitcoin Millionaire Syndrome extreme Bitcoin speculation and Bitcoin Economy on: January 12, 2013, 12:44:15 AM
Logically the merchants should be thinking in the same way, and pricing their products in Bitcoins with a substantial discount compared to the fiat price.
Not only do they save on creditcard fees, but they also receive Bitcoins directly without having to touch any fiat.
The market should automatically adjust the price of things in Bitcoins to take into account the attractiveness of holding bitcoins over fiat.
So people who hold bitcoins can expect their bitcoins to be worth more, and also to be able to get things cheaper than everyone else.

Right it might be cheaper to accept bitcoins, like bitpay at 1%, but its also like 6% to change the currency to usd.

BitPay charges way less than 6% to convert to USD.

Sorry, I wasn't clear I guess, not 6% by bitpay, but for other exchanges. Not all transactions are via bitpay.

Edit: I just checked bitpays stats out, 1% transaction + 2.69 to cash to bank. 3.69% is a huge percentage. It might not seem like a lot, but if you do $100,000 with normal processors at 1.9% you're paying $1900 in fees, bitpay is $3,690 in fees. Which isn't completely terrible, just stating lowering prices just because accepted in bitcoin isn't logical.

Either way, hardware, software, or editing the db code to speed it up, if he cant do it himself, admin should pay someone to fix the issue. Id be pretty upset if I was paying for advertisements, and the site is hardly running. New members that visit sites that are frozen just leave, it gives bad reputation.
1036  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Holy F***, what is happening? Most Users Online today since 1 and 1/2 Years! on: January 11, 2013, 10:33:11 PM
It may have something to do with the fact that Moot accepts Bitcoins for his 4chan Pass and says so under every post form. Thus millions of people see the word Bitcoin everytime they write a post on 4chan. CES is nothing compared to that.

It's been that way for a while now. Admin should be able to inform where traffic is coming from.

well how to fix that?

More memory, faster CPU, faster disk. Maybe the mysql configuration could be improved, but I don't know much about that. mysqld seems to be CPU-bound.

The traffic will probably go back down soon. If not, I'll find a solution.

Seeing as these forums are making more than this weekly, seems like this should be whats purchased.

It's not much better (if any better) than the best open-source solutions. And I trust open source software more. If Apache does become the bottleneck at some point, I'd probably switch to nginx.

Wait for traffic to go down?
Stop being cheap, your new car can wait. The more users that are here, the more the word of bitcoin is spread. The more that sign up, the more the forums make in profit. The forums are making a killing in profit, pay to upgrade them.

Why donate..? The forums are making over $4,000 a month in profit. Admin should stop being cheap and buy his own server upgrade.
