What do you estimate the best case for segwit to have any effect on tx backlog, tx's that I presume are supposed to keep growing.
(remember bitcoin adoption?)
Anyway, 6 months minimum before segwit has any effect on tx backlog, probably, most likely longer.

(a)IF segwit was active in 2016 (before LN, before CPC is a thing) then segwit possibly could handle 1.8x current block capacity..(for 1.8mb real data)
(b)IF segwit was active in 2017 due to the request to include the 2mb hard fork aswell (making the 5.7mb total bloat with CPC or 3.6mb without CPC) then the capacity would be ~3x current capacity

now for the backlog question..

no one knows how many people will transact in the future..

imagining lets say only 2500tx average are let in a block currently[1] .. but where 5000 people doing individual transactions every 10 minutes (backlog example)
[1] estimate based on block 412946 & block 412945 being recent and offering around 2500tx for 998kb

segwit in 2016 would still not quite allow all them transactions in.. (average allowance increases to 4500tx)
segwit+HF 2017 would (as the capacity is about 7600tx per block) as long as popularity stayed below 7600 people making tx per 10 minute(average).

Then, even worse, segwit will be rushed and effectively released untested.

Who has access to this segwit/presegwit testnet?

its available for anyone to download the testnet release on github.

Thanks for those facts.

I really dont get the logic - how could a HF be in the roadmap  and is soooo dangerous right now? How will this 'HF fear' be eased and selled in 2017?

BTW:  THE  HF  is already in the making.  The comunity is hard forked and btc forked  into eth ....

Fees are higher now, yes - but if peace & adoption & price would be higher, miners would be happier.

Happy days!

Stanford Seminar - Juan Benet of Protocol Labs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUVmypx9HGI

Thanks a lot, thats really a good one.

At 57:10 he shows that if bitcoin is integrated into ipfs, you can run any smart contract with it, correct?

And around 59:30 you see that you can even mount the web to your local CPU,....

monster!

There is a hidden plan. The DAO was built by bitcoin whales to finally found a big BTC mining farm....

BTC >450 ETH > 20$ by monday.
AND THEN ether will "collapse" as BTC choo choos along.

you know its true so trade accordingly

How should BTC go up when we now need to pay fees twice: Exchange fee and tx fee.... Or should we keep them on the exchanges infuture and risk the gox?

I expect the BTC price to adjust to constant $ tx fees...

S..t

Will rise for a few days more.
I'm long till DAO's end, then i will be short.

PROFIT!
BTCBTCBTC

Exaclty!!

Time for VB to sell next big chunk...

What the fk is this?

daodaodaodao

When someone presents you with a rap video and then says "give me millions of dollars", that might be a red flag.

In the DAO, we can vote not to give the people the money if we think there is no hope to get our money back.

Great. Then nobody will invest, since this risk is latent..... As expected daodaodaodoaooo

some muppet is trying to pull a fast one by using the DAO momentum to disguise his cheap multi-level marketing scheme.

What a twat. Roll Eyes

I now go and create a  PAO

Anyone interested?

And much expected, since there is no other use for ETH right now and in principle no risk for ETH holders.

Anybody sitting on that coin are willing to lock 20% into DAO and hope for next hype.

We see a hyper bubble in the making. Wooooww

Even Coindesk has betrayed us: Top four stories about ETH Sad

Remember how we used to be popular? Those were the days...

What else should they print?  BTC blocks full ? Hard fork in 10 years? 200 Mio $ into R3 still slightly  more than DAO so DAO cannot buy R3 ?
5091  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Core have been derelict in their duties. on: May 21, 2016, 01:14:25 PM
Core have been derelict in their duties by showing little foresight around the looming full block situation.

Perhaps the understatement of the century! Cheesy

~~

~~

At altcoin developer with that amount of foresight would be belly up in a matter of days.

You need to be upper class now (not classic) to be part in such a block (=club) , sorry....
5092  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Ethereum Paradox on: May 21, 2016, 12:47:33 PM
Nice try r0ach. You can find users agreeing you but you'll never know what they exactly do with thier btc. A lot of them putrobably just bought Eth.

In the end it might be fine to buy any altcoin, as long as there is some use and youhave your risk under control.

It might work out that we will come to such a similarity like

Analog world :Gold  <-> fiat
Digital world : BTC   <-> alts

And finally all fiat converted to Crypto will seek store of value in BTC....

So you people really think that ETH is rising because of BTC not being able to process more TX's?

Not necessarily because BTC can't process more TX's, but you cannot deny that the overall uncertainty, fear and chaos which has enveloped the BTC space in recent months did not contribute greatly to their rise. Ethereum played off bitcoin's uncertainty quite well. As I said earlier, a lack of leadership and willingness to act helped make it possible.

Good spoken.
And good leadership will end up in unifying all groups + needed solutions incl HF and Big and Thin  blocks and SW....!

I'd even say more stronger: Banks have strongest security & firewalls
My justification for keeping most of my bitcoins in MtGox...

Good point - Need to say better: Stronger than I have...

PWC has no investment in Blockstream or anything to do with investment in Blockstream. (Not that it would matter if they did), AFAIK no bank has any investment in Blockstream-- though they might be wise to, to the extent that the technology we work on might displace some of their businesses they'd be wise to want to figure out how to adapt to it.

But really, most groups that might be displaced by Bitcoin simply can't see it coming-- if they weren't blind to the reasons it would displace them they wouldn't likely be displaced. There is no reason that any ordinary bank today couldn't quite profitably adapt to an all Bitcoin world.

There is all the reasons In the world Banks WILL NEVER adapt to bitcoin as it is meant to freaking by-pass them and their sham of a financial system.

Them banksters rely on debt money. Not sound money.

So they will fight it, infiltrate it, try at corrupt it, etc.

Pretty much what we have witnessed so far with stupid "Blockchain tech" hype, social ingeneering bullshitery, kyc/aml regulation sheningans, governance schemes and other fork attacks.

But may they try harder. Make bitcoin even more resilient to their obsolete tactics.

I think there is a place for "Bitcoin banks" to exist.
Most people will not like the idea of being responsible of their own money... like the idea of having all of your networth at home in some cold storage, might seem to scary for them, and they couldn't take it if they did a mistake and lost it all. So I for those that are scared of that, and would rather trust a bank carrying their private keys, im sure there will be services like that. Personally I think it kills the point of Bitcoin, but who cares, as long as we have the option to manage our own money.

I'd even say more stronger: Banks have strongest security & firewalls -> Clients will pay fees for this service,

and banks NEED (!!) to run miners as well, so they still can print money (thanks to hdbuck Smiley ) , but MORE they will help to ensure / win back the decentralization !! (bye bye China) and might ensure having strong code dev.

Never say never.

And if there is a way to earn (or safe) money, they will (maybe when it's the last or only one left).

They dont need to earn/save money, They fucking print it all day long.

Yep, as miners do.

If you sit on a (big) bunch of ETH, what would you do with it?

There is no real use case (yet) - so kick them into sth new hypy / at least with 20% ...

For physics:

You can solve a 2 body Problem, good!

3 bodies ? - Ohh - hard....

Many bodies ?  -> do some mean field aproach and look for equilibrium states.

I predict that the DAO power w/o any CEO  or 2-lead CEOs  will fall into the many body trap and tend to equilibrium decisions   ==  DEATH

Look @bitcoin actual Problems: Here 2-3 groups cannot agree on a consensus solution...

Cheers
