561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When you heard about Bitcoin vs. When you first used Bitcoin on: May 06, 2021, 07:11:00 AM
Heard about it in 2013 and started using it within minutes (by using, I mean downloading Core and checking it out). It was too interesting not to try it out. However, I do agree that while I did use Bitcoin at the time, it took me a very long time to get used to it and to understand how things work..

What kept me back from really using it as in purchasing BTC and stuff is the fact that there were no easy ways to purchase it and I'm not the biggest fan of credit cards, especially when it comes to tech I just found out about.

What is guaranteed to receive it?
Usually, either something you teach us or something you've learned yourself. Merits are usually given as a reward for exchange of information. The key is hanging around the forum while learning new stuff and helping others newer than you out. Once someone considers your information to be of substance, you'll be usually rewarded.

564  Economy / Economics / Re: How much fiat to reach a million on: May 05, 2021, 09:53:51 AM
If everyone suddenly decided Bitcoin is worth $100k and should never be sold under this amount again, Bitcoin could turn into $100k even instantly without much money pumped into it. There isn't a special fromula for it - liquidity, demand, psychological levels, support, resistance.. they are all influencing price movements.
565  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why financial exclusion is the true power of Bitcoin on: May 05, 2021, 09:46:32 AM
Bitcoin isn't charge-free. You do pay fees for transactions, and lately they've even been quite expensive to say the least. It does give you a freedom no other institution or currency does tho.
566  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Centralized and kyc platforms can pose risks in the future on: May 05, 2021, 08:42:23 AM
Anything that is currently on the internet can pose risks in the future. Any account you have today might be compromised tomorrow. Therefore, it is a very good practice to use separate false personal information and passwords for every account you own. This way, your accounts cannot be linked together by name or passwords in case one of these are leaked, nor can your personal identity be linked to those.

Use temporary emails as often as possible for accounts you only need temporarily. Perhaps you could use a different e-mail for every domain you have activity in. Need to create a Binance account? Create a new e-mail for it, separate from your personal one. The less information there is online about you, the better. Once KYC is completed, nobody can ensure you that your information will ever disappear of the web. It's a web - information gets caught in it and it's quite hard to take it off.
567  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Doge Success Force Bitcoin to Improve on: May 04, 2021, 07:12:52 PM
I can't call it a success. It's going to probably turn into the largest pump and dump in crypto history.

I barely got my Doge on an exchange a while ago. Some exchanges require 250 confirmations. Hell, other exchanges require even 500 to deposit your coins. That's between 250 and 500 minutes.. By the time your tx is confirmed 500 times, price will fluctuate so much it's useless. If this is "success" and "utility", then no thanks.

I hate the fact that Bitcoin has so strict and annoying tx limits. The mempool has been clogged ever since 2020 and that is a very big problem we don't seem to care about. Obviously, as time goes on and people look for ways to invest in crypto, they might prioritize alts over BTC since the average person will not afford spending $20-100 per transaction just in fees.

By the time Bitcoin will improve, I think it might be too late and Bitcoin will remain the preference of the wealthy while the average Joes will move towards cheaper alts (cheap as in fees)
568  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Cumpara Bitcoin fara KYC: ATM-urile Bitcoin Romania care respecta anonimitatea on: May 04, 2021, 03:41:34 PM
In cazul acesta, Blockchain-ul reprezinta dovada clara si incontestabila ca tranzactia ta a avut loc in urma primirii hartiei respective. Legal, nu stiu cat de valida ar fi o astfel de proba, intr-adevar. N-ar strica sa ofere si o dovada fizica.
569  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Not Showing All Transaction History? on: May 03, 2021, 11:05:56 PM
Wait so you need to manually download ledger live updates now on their site?  Back months ago, when i log in ledger live, I would see ledger live update available and i would just click on that to update itself.  Thus i never had to go to ledger site directly to download an update.  So you all don't see ledger live updates anymore in the client like in top right corner anymore?
You still get the notification on the top of your Live window. I still get it. But if you don't get it anymore and Live has issues, perhaps a reinstall would do good.

Is that how it is with the ledger recovery app?  Also... if it confirms it is correct, what would the message say?

Also... if it does confirm... that means whatever shows in my ledger live balance such as my btc and bch balance is l00% directly connected to this seed and my replacement nano ledger s right?
Honestly, your seed story is quite confusing but I'll try answering your question.

I don't see why re-verifying the seed would make you feel better in any way about it to be honest. You can re-check it if you want to, but as long as the accounts in your Live are the accounts that you've added using your ledger, yes - everything should be 100% connected to your seed. If you get another ledger and add a completely different seed to it and then add its accounts to your Live as well, you'll have the accounts from both seeds.

does that confirm the seed I used a while back to restore my seed... is in fact connected to all the accounts in ledger live.
What exactly is it that you're so scared of?

LEDGER 1: you generate a seed and add a Bitcoin account called "L1" in Ledger Live. You generate a receiving address, you deposit 1 BTC onto this account. Your Ledger Live knows that you have the account called "L1" worth 1 BTC.
LEDGER 2: you generate a seed and add a Bitcoin account called "L2" in Ledger Live. You generate a receiving address, you deposit 0.5 BTC onto this account.. Your Ledger Live now knows that you have two accounts, "L1" and "L2", worth a total of 1.5 BTC.
LEDGER 3: you generate a seed and add a BCH account called "L3" in Ledger Live. You generate a receiving address, you deposit 10 BCH onto this account.... Your Ledger Live now knows that you have 3 accounts: "L1" worth 1 BTC, "L2" worth 0.5 BTC and "L3" worth 10 BCH.

You can have a thousand different seeds. As long as you add the accounts for each of them to your Live, you will have the correct balance shown for all of them at the same time. As long as you did not miss an account for one of your seeds, you will have the right balance showing up.

Given that you have a legit Ledger Live install and the receiving address has been successfully verified using your Ledger's display, chances are almost zero that your receiving address is not yours. If your Ledger generated the said public key, it is indeed yours..
570  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Thailand to introduce in-person KYC for crypto exchanges on: May 03, 2021, 04:51:24 PM
Be prepared! Every other government will slowly follow the same rule of KYC even if they grant licenses to the crypto exchanges to operate from their country. The anonymity that cryptocurrency grants to its users, is actually seen as a challenge by the governments around the world. So slowly they will try to impose stricter kyc rules to the crypto exchanges.

The good part is that, such kind of regulations will give rise to the peer to peer exchanges operating from crypto friendly nations.
This. Decentralization will triumph under authoritarian ruling, especially when we have solutions such as Tor and even bridges to avoid governments that are pushing authoritarian behavior. P2P exchanges and atomic swaps will make everything so much better!
571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Towards a unified currency on: May 03, 2021, 04:22:12 PM
Could you imagine a world in which China, Russia and USA somehow get to agree to the exact same terms and rules of a currency? I can't. Each massive power will want to have their own terms in their own country's advantage. Could you imagine the Petrodollar becoming a Petro<insert_crypto_name_here>? I can't, for the same reason. Some things are not going to work simply by the nature of power and greed. We're close to some unified currency maybe in the EU, but certainly not a currency for the entire world.
572  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Intrebare trading crypto. on: May 03, 2021, 03:06:52 PM
573  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Not Showing All Transaction History? on: May 03, 2021, 08:43:51 AM
how far back does your transactions go as in transactions and years?  For me, I only did several transactions on my ledger live as I didn't do much transactions.  So its literally right there all my transactions.  But if you do tons of transactions.. do you need to scroll down?  Is there that option?   Asking this because i like to know how ledger live history looks for people that do tons of transactions.
I just scroll down and push the "Show more" button. In my Live, I see txs from 2017 and can still push the "Show more" button to go even earlier in the history.

If the Live shows full balance, that means you have full control over the said balance unless there's some kind of server error coming from Ledger (this doesn't happen if you run your own full node) or unless one of your recent txs have dropped from the mempool. I sometimes get glitchy balance after sending a tx.

But why don't you try to create a Ledger wallet on Electrum and see if the balance shows up over there? Go to Electrum, plug in your Ledger and upon the question "What kind of wallet do you want to create?", choose hardware wallet. There is zero risk of compromising your coins or seed trying this out. You can use this method to double-check your balance/txs - and Electrum certainly does show up the correct amount, unless you're under some kind of attack or downloaded a malicious Electrum version.
574  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What are Bitcoin mixers, and why do exchanges ban them? on: May 03, 2021, 08:25:24 AM
There's even the possibility of trading on decentralized exchanges (DEX) to virtually eliminate any possible tracing.
I have to add something to this statement. Most DEXs still hold a quite traceable record of how money moves. Komodo, Waves DEX (and perhaps any other Ethereum DEX if I'm not wrong) - they seem to be completely private as you move from one chain to another, yet that is pretty false. In fact, it might be easier to trace a "DEX" transaction than it is to trace one that comes off centralized exchanges.
575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most awful Shitcoin on: May 02, 2021, 06:24:37 PM
Most people are looking for coins that are fast, have quick confirmation times, low fees and a potential for price growth. At this given time, most of the people who say they're looking for decentralization are lying to themselves. They aren't looking for decentralization. The real reason behind promoting a certain coin for having certain features is most of the time an attempt to bring people's attention to it so that the coin's price has a growth.

Most awful shitcoin? Is this a thing really? I mean, they're all awful. If I had to call one for the most awful, it'd probably be Doge at this point. It's got a market cap that is simply incomprehensible considering how crappy their development is and that it's a memecoin.
576  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: HW Wallets & SW Wallets are a Scam - They & Exchanges are Main Theft Vector on: May 02, 2021, 04:16:20 PM
Hardware Wallet is a joke, how do you really know its doing what you think? How can you trust the company.
Interesting point of view, but in the end this question you asked will be continuously repeated. How do you really know the wallet is doing what you think? Replace "wallet" with private server, Tor, CoinJoin etc and you'll find out there still has to be a relationship of trust no matter what you try and do. Unless you support just open-source stuff and inspect every single line of code of the apps you use and physically/technically inspect the hardware components, you still have to trust something in some way.

If you generate the privkey using dice, it is 100% safe and random until you insert it into a wallet. And then, how do you know the wallet you've installed isn't going to show you another address instead of yours so that any money you send will go to someone else while you think your cold wallet is safer than anything else? Unless you've checked the code behind the software, there's no such assurance.
577  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IRS now wants to Hack Hardware Wallets on: May 02, 2021, 01:38:26 PM
the irs doesnt need private keys or the seed to achieve their main objective; all the need is a list of addy you control. at that point they have all the info they need as they can then monitor those addys.
Imagine they had an 8yo seed which was used with coin control ever since it's been generated. Having the seed means knowing its entire history and, moreover, you now know all this history is of one single person's finance. It's their wet dream..
578  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warren Buffett Agrees That Bitcoin Is "Disgusting" on: May 02, 2021, 01:35:25 PM
He's an old man who only pretty much cared about making profit all his life. How are we supposed to expect something better than this coming from the mouth of a billionaire who's worked with centralized systems all his life, a man who's grown his portfolio up on those things? They're losing control over what's going on with BTC.. of course they hate it! But who cares really?
579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IRS now wants to Hack Hardware Wallets on: May 02, 2021, 07:10:27 AM
I wonder how many companies with closed-source HWs would not sacrifice their clients for millions of bucks coming from IRS. In an open-source world, it is indeed very weird to sell a partially closed-source product. But since authorities have easy access to very large fundings, a $10M secret contract with Ledger might actually sound good enough for them to allow backdoors in their HWs, if they haven't done it already.

Worst thing is, they literally have a money printing machine. They could at any given time start working on a computer specifically created to break down all the seeds using latest technologies, without us knowing it. They're so desperate they might want to do that, even though it does mean breaking someone's financial intimacy from anywhere around the world.
580  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is dogecoin suitable for kids? on: May 01, 2021, 07:09:39 PM
Let's be real. How easy is access to illicit markets for a children who will probably only own a few bucks in crypto? "Safety" depends on how much the kid's activity is controlled. If you give him the onion version of Google and $10k in crypto, don't expect them to purchase Barbie dolls off the deep web or to find cartoons over there.

As long as you give them the right education, about any crypto is suitable for such lessons. The advantage of some coins like DOGE is that you have to pay little fees for txs, so you can show multiple things to your child.
