If the fee for Pay Per Share (PPS) Method is 7.5%, is it correct that if the pool's luck (hypothetically) ran at 92.5% forever, than the PPS method would break even?  Asked another way, if a miner is using PPS, and the pool luck is below 92.5% for an very extended period, would the miner make more than if he was using PPLNS, for the same extended time period?

100% Luck = 97-98% payout after pool fee (orphaned blocks make it hard to say which one).  So technically if luck is under 95% or so, that's when PPS would have paid better (although NMC adds a little, so maybe 94%).  You'll notice the pool luck has never been that low for any reasonable length of time.  Trying to hop between them isn't possible, so while you might try to hop PPLNS/PPS and get it right some times, the odds say PPLNS will win most of the time.  Thinking you can guess when to change and "beat the system" is akin to thinking you can beat the casino at its own game.

LTC -> BTC auto exchange is now part of automatic conversion (did a manual script execution about 10 minutes ago before putting it into the auto script).  It uses BTC-e instead of Cryptsy, since BTC-e is consistently a better price with significantly more market depth to avoid slippage.

Well, I guess I gotta ask.... now that we can auto exchange LTC to BTC, should we?  Right now I'm converting all the other coins to BTC, except LTC (they're just piling up).  Is there anyway to know if I should keep the TLC or exchange them for BTC?

You're asking the wrong guy on that one.  I personally recommend dumping altcoins as fast as you can, LTC included.  But that's because I don't believe any of them deserve any valuation at all.

Yeah, the last 2 and a half days have been pretty abysmal with luck.  Our 1 week is still above 100% for now, though the current open shifts make me think we might finally see 1D+3D+1W+2W all under 100% for the first time since that luck chart was added.  Then again:  That was going to happen eventually.  You can't stay 1-3% above expectation forever.
885  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - Accepted Shares on: March 10, 2014, 06:14:20 PM
If my hash rate is the same as it has been since the start of this difficulty, what would account from my 24 hour earnings dropping in half?  I was earning about 7% per 24 hours, now I am around 3%.  I am hashing at 410 Gh/s.  Thanks.

Reviving a 6 month old thread for an unrelated question aside:

Luck has been terrible the last 3 days.  It's clearly visible at the bottom of the PPLNS stats page.  Not sure what the heck your 7% and 3% are supposed to mean though.  Earnings don't get measured in % per 24h.

We weren't hitting Mooncoin to much lately once it hit that 1 satoshi mark.  I've removed it from the profit switching in anticipation of the removal of the MOON/BTC market.  You can still mine it manually and it can still be paid out as usual.  The last few bits will still get auto converted since the market isn't gone just yet.

LTC->BTC conversion should be fully functional tomorrow.  Few kinks need to be ironed out in order to get the LTC/BTC flowing back and forth with BTC-e instead of Cryptsy.

Some additional coins will also be added soon in order to give us some diversity.  The last few days the only coins worth mining have been DOGE, EAC, WDC, and LTC.  Lot/Meow popping in rarely when a single block was worth grabbing due to high reward.

Yes, that means your workers are on PPLNS (the default method).

How about tracking the per-user data? For users that only do the full conversion, could you track what they receive per day and report the average of that?

For example yesterday I got ~0.008 btc per 86.4Ghashes (or btc per day per mhps, if you prefer that silly measurement unit).

The idea is two sets of charts.  One is the actual coins received in a 24 hour period.  The other is the approximate BTC earned in that 24-hour period, using the coins you earned per shift multiplied by the average price when that shift was converted.  The first chart will be precise, based on actual coins paid for each shift.  The second one will be an approximation, based on actual coins paid for each shift multiplied by average BTC price at the time the shift closed.
889  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Which mining pool got hacked? on: March 10, 2014, 01:20:54 AM
I've just seen a twitter post from @thecryptorush:
"#CryptoRush Once again We fear that a Mining Pool has been compromised. Many reports of hacking going on. Use 2FA! Protect Yourselves!"

does anyone know which one/should i even be asking?

Probably yet another pool based on MPOS.  This should *probably* be in the Altcoin section since CryptoRush is an altcoin exchange, meaning whatever pool may have been hacked was most likely an altcoin pool.

so whats this pools btc/mh?

That a kind of an odd measurement, but I get  9.259259e-08 btc per Mhash.

Ah organofcorti, always trolling people Tongue.

As for the actual question:  That statistic isn't currently tracked, since unlike many other multipools, this pool does not convert all coins (its optional).  It's in the plans of things to add, but it's not as trivial to add as looking at pool speed vs BTC traded, since only a fraction of the pool's mining capacity is actually converted to BTC.

My plan is to make the 2nd graph on the charts page a stacked chart, where you can see Total BTC generated per day, with a breakdown of how much each coin contributed.  Once that is in place, there will be enough data logged to also generate a figure for how much 1 MH/s generated that day.

eleuthria, I noticed that the finger pointing down, and the "dropdown" on the "Pool Speed" icon disappeared.  It showed the pool speed for each coin type.  Do you plan on bringing that back? - it was helpful Smiley  Great new pool , by the way!!!!!

It's gone for now, mostly because that list was getting quite large, and it's on a 1-hour delay (pool speed is updated hourly, based on the speed average for the last shift).  It confused people seeing only 200-300 MH/s on the current auto coin, even though basically the entire pool was on it, we just weren't on it for very long.

Just joined this pool and loving it so far! However, how do I know what coin it is mining right now? I see it says "Automatic Coin: WDC" but my account balance doesn't have any WDC at all. Instead, there's MOON, LTC, DOGE, DGC, and LOT.

The pool switches coins extremely frequently.  Your earnings are updated hourly when a shift closes.  Also:  Looking at your account, you have auto convert on, and no reserve for WDC, so it's only in your account for a few minutes before being swapped out for Bitcoins.

Daylight savings pushed us forward an hour.  Historically this  tends to make a few stats look off (like pool speed/worker charts).  I *believe* these shouldn't be affected anymore due to some of the changes made to how those are logged/generated.  However, one thing that may have kicked in are idle warning emails.

Anyone else been noticing that blocks found on PPLNS with the pool seems to increase in general in the evening hours (USA time zones) and then decrease in the day time?  I haven't done any research into this yet, but just seemed to pop out as a pattern in the last few weeks.

You're straining to look for patterns that do not exist.  You could dump the data for the 3-month luck chart into excel and probably plot the distribution of bad times vs good times and see a fairly even distribution regardless of time of day.  Just a simple glance (zooming in) at the worst periods of luck for the pool shows the low points have happened at all times of day (midnight, noon, mid-day, evening).

So i've made an account, but no matter what i type in i get told it's wrong, even after i freshly reset it to something Stupidly easy

Is there an issue with registrations right now?

Keep getting The username/password combination you entered did not match any of our records. (even after resetting)

Usernames are case sensitive, so my guess is you used a capital somewhere on registration and not on login (or vice-versa).  Also:  Your email is not your username.

A question, has anyone figured out whether mining these coins with GPUs and then converting the result to Bitcoin makes any more than mining Bitcoin directly with the GPUs? Just curious.

I totally get the Hobby aspect of all this. I can see that doing this can be fun. I'm just curious as to if there is a hidden benefit.  Grin

You will make SIGNIFICANTLY more on a profit switching pool than you would straight GPU mining Bitcoin.  You will make a good deal more than you would straight mining Litecoin.

Idle Warning emails are now functioning properly.  Every 5 minutes the pool checks for any workers which have gone beyond their idle warning threshold and shoots out an email to notify the user.  It bundles multiple notifications into a single email if multiple workers all went idle at the same time.  Only one email is triggered per idle event, meaning you won't receive additional notifications until your worker has become active again.

I'm averaging 0.6% right now here.

EDIT: just redid the math, at 0.714% right now.

M

I can only assume you're running at a lower intensity (or running on ASICs).  You can probably squeeze more speed out of your cards.  In general, a  2-3% stale rate is worth it because you'll get a 5-10% increase in speed.

The pool is now automatically refilling its balances on Cryptsy on a regular basis.  This will prevent certain coins from piling up overnight (WDC has been the biggest culprit) without automatically converting.

I did include in my calculation the reject rate I got here and what I usually get on other pools (in CM and SG I get 5%~ reject with -i 18, 3%~ on hashcows and MC and 0-0.3% on Waffle).

Just going to let you know one thing:  If you see 0-0.3% on Waffle, they are probably lying to you on Stales by marking stale shares as valid (which doesn't impact earnings at all on a non-PPS payment method, since everybody is getting lied to, and it actually benefits people with bad setups over people with proper setups).  This was a very common activity on Bitcoin pools in the getwork days to make people think they were performing better than competition.  The only way you'd get 0-0.3% is if they are 100% on Auroracoin and Litecoin, and even then it's EXTREMELY unlikely unless you're running low intensity and have a basically direct connection to the pool.

0.3% reject rate is literally impossible to achieve on an Scrypt pool on high block rate coins due to how intensity works and the frequency of blocks.  If the pool is outright excluding low difficulty coins, they are not making you as much money as they could just for the sake of prettier stats.  As stated previously, ScryptGuild applies heavy penalties to low difficulty coins, fully expecting a big spike in stales when it mines them.  Getting a 5-9% stale on a coin which has been penalized 10% for it's low difficulty still makes it more profitable than the alternatives.
