1101  Other / Meta / Re: 10th anniversary art contest on: November 23, 2019, 07:37:13 PM
Since I noticed discussion about merits received by artworks is getting hot and already several threads with merit statistics popped up, just wanted to make a point that merits on my artwork got split between two posts:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5202297.msg53105752#msg53105752
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193860.msg53105718#msg53105718

I have a question, I posted my completed submission the AM of the 22nd. I don't think many people have even seen it yet to merit it, I myself got to about page 30 so far and my submission is on 78, so I am just wondering is there an official cut off time for the calculation of total merits for the art contest? Thank you! Smiley

No, there is no cut-off time for merit calculation. Merits will taken into consideration most probably up to the point when theymos declares BTC winners and announces how he wanna go for badge winners.
1102  Other / Meta / Re: The Bitcoin Forum is 10 years old! on: November 22, 2019, 06:47:50 PM
Congratulations everyone. Hope Bitcoin sets new bar in coming 10 years.

PS: Why does 95% of the images on forum giving bandwidth error?
1103  Other / Meta / Re: [Request] removing +merit in the Art Contest Thread after the Contest is finish on: November 22, 2019, 06:44:13 PM
with the end of The 10th Anniversary Art Contest I personally hope that  thread will not only locked, if there's a way to remove +merit (button) right there I think it much more better.

I'm sure that there several alt accounts participating there, whether it's old registered account, or even newly accounts.
If the + merit (button) is not removed, I think the thread will be (a good and clear way) to distribute sMerit between one and another account without being suspected as merit abuse.

PS: I also want thank to all of you who have given merit to my submission

What is the connection between alts giving merits to each other and ending of contest? They could have given merits even before contest was ended. Why would they wait for thread to lock?
I don't think it would be wise to remove merit button because there are many last day submissions which may be better than earlier merited submissions. I personally would like to visit last 5-10 pages and merit some good ones.
1104  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: November 22, 2019, 11:23:00 AM
At last PL is back! A very decent matchday, I would say. Only one big game to be played this week. Gonna watch only Man City vs Chelsea fixture this week.

I gone for two draws this week and one of them is Sheff vs Man Utd.
Utd is disappointing in this season and I have lost so many picks just because I was picking them as winners.
The other one is Bournemouth vs Wolves. I was tempted to pick Wolves as a winner but I think this will be very tight match and Bournemouth will be able to steal a point from this match.

The only match I have predicted to draw this week is Aston Villa vs Newcastle. It maybe daring pick but as soon as I read that fixture, my instinct got me to go for draw.

So anyone willing to risk it with me by picking Chelsea as the winners in regards to their match against Manchester city.

Anyone think City or Liverpool could drop points this week? I'm not sure I'd predict them to, but I don't think either game will be easy for them and Chelsea are on a bit of a run recently.

I think Chelsea will beat Man City this matchday. I am going for 2-3 in favor of Chelsea. However, KDB performed exceptionally well in international break. Man City's only chance is if he could turn the match.
1105  Local / India / Re: Crypto Ban Draft Bill Excluded From Upcoming Parliament Session on: November 22, 2019, 08:18:04 AM
~snip

Hope you are aware of the Monetary Policy Committee and it is control by the government and now a days nothing is transparent like they used to be in the past and RBI does not take control of everything now and hence there is no conflict of interest.

No one is denying that. MPC is indeed controlled and constituted by government. But you know when MPC is created? It is created when government requires expert advice on some complicated matters. Hence, what government does, it creates a committee having members from different fields like one from government itself, one from RBI, one from finance ministry, others from various other financial departments. MPC then discuss the matter in series of meetings and comes to final proposal which is then presented to government. Government then have complete autonomy to either accept the proposal or reject it.

But you know there is one difference between the decision taken by committee and decision taken by government. Committee only takes into consideration the technical purview and decision is explicitly taken on that basis. But when it comes to the decision of government, government takes into consideration social reaction, public retaliation along with technical aspects. So in short we can say, government will never hurry and implement committee's draft.

When the current government came into power you know how many governors were changed because they do not listen to the central government, first it was Raghuram Rajan then came Urjit Patel and now we have Shaktikant Das, any idea why this much change in a short period of time and you think that everything is normal and regarding the bitcoin ban, the RBI does not have the power to ban anything and what they control is the banking sector and not to shut down businesses.

I don't want to go in details of politics within RBI or its tension with government, there is much more into case then what you and me know. However, I would like to reply to the text I bolden in the quote text above. So first thing, RBI didn't ban anything. It just issued guideline to commercial banks to not provide banking services to businesses involved into crypto business. This guideline indeed comes into the definition of 'controlling the banking sector'. Shutting down of businesses like Zebpay is just the consequences of this decision. If Zebpay wants it could have stayed and evolved itself into P2P, something like WazirX or Giottus. It made exponential profits in FY 2017-18 and could have worked in losses for a year until its P2P network starting gaining momentum. But what Zebpay did, it left India, moved to Malta and forgets Indian market completely. When Zebpay has no sentiments for Indian market and adoption of Bitcoin in India then why we are fighting for the closure of such businesses? Did you see any case filed by Zebpay against RBI decision? No, it was IAMAI which took initiative.

I was out of merits last time I saw this thread. It is pretty informative thread. Nice work!
1107  Local / Press & News from India / Re: Binance acquires Wazirx to offer Fiat to Crypto Gateway on: November 21, 2019, 08:24:19 AM
I just came to know about it from another crypto blog and literally I am surprised! Indians can now withdraw from Binance to their bank account and Wazirx will facilitate the transfer! While it's a good development for India's crypto scene, but I am still skeptical  about using a known crypto exchange for transferring money to my bank account. This way my account will be tagged as a crypto user and looking at the situation, I don't think it is safe yet!

Anyone planning to use it?

It will still work on P2P model. I don't see how things will turn different or unsafe.
1108  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: [GOOD NEWS] P2P Exchange LocalCryptos Launches [NO KYC] on: November 21, 2019, 05:02:55 AM
No KYC is one of the most dangerous thing in P2P business, believe me!
You never know who's buying on the other side, sending from which bank account, what's his purpose. KYC at least ensures that the bank name of the person sending money matches the documents submitted for kyc.
1109  Other / Meta / Re: BTCTALK CARDS - The Real-time Custom Cards for Bitcointalk Members on: November 20, 2019, 06:38:41 PM
As I said on the other subject, if it is possible, I would know the part that generates the images ( In private message if necessary ) Smiley

Sorry buddy, I have no intention to publicize image generation code at the moment. As you know, apart from that, rest of the site could be created by anyone having modest PHP knowledge. So for a time being, I would like to keep that private. Well, you can try to create that code. It is not that difficult, just require little innovative thinking.

Also, if it interests you, I developed an API that retrieves the user trusts score :

Thank you for showing where I was making mistake. I didn't know about ccode with which one can skip recaptcha. The captcha was the only obstacle for my trust scraping code.

Seeking answer for this question: Currently, whenever someone request to create card, my alt account: webtricks_random gets login and provide trust score. Is it ok or will it effect forum in any way? If it effects the performance of forum, I can save data in cookies file rather than login at every request.

Update 4: The Reputation stat is now working properly for all the members. Here are the testimonials for the same:

There you go:

Can somebody do mine?

Not currently able to use a VPN or Tor where I am. Not really wanting to reveal my IP on an external website.

2 Merit’s in it for whoever does the deed.

Which color?
1112  Local / India / Re: How do YOU convert your Bitcoins to INR ? on: November 20, 2019, 07:28:16 AM
Step 1: BTC to ETH or BCH using https://CoinSwitch.co.

Step 2: ETH or BCH to INR using https://LocalEthereum.com or https://local.Bitcoin.com respectively.
Why this? It is also P2P transaction right? So we can use localbitcoin for converting BTC to INR directly!

Yes. That was odd to read actually. Among all cryptocurrencies, BTC has the highest demand in India. Don't know why someone will convert BTC to BCH/ETH and then sell it for INR.
And yes you are right, both of the sites he mentioned are P2P networks too.
1113  Other / Meta / I'm Hero Member Now - Thank You Everyone on: November 20, 2019, 05:32:16 AM
So I was only 2 weeks (14 activity) away from becoming Hero Member when theymos introduced merit system. It was like someone reset my downloading progress from 99% to 50%.  Cheesy

Then came the giant leap of inactivity due to some personal reasons and real-life commitments for most of the part of 2018 and early 2019. Then in second quarter of 2019, I once again started giving time to Bitcointalk and earned like 40-50 merits in some short span. That motivated me to believe that I still got some posting quality left in me. And then 10th Anniversary Contest happened and it changed the due course of everything! After reading the thread, the idea of custom btctalk cards spring immediately in my mind and here I am : 160 merits on two btctalk cards posts combined.

I would like to thank everyone who liked the idea and gave their valuable merits to me and been instrumental in my journey to become Hero Member.

So what's next:

It would be wrong if I don't acknowledge that I made some good fortune during late 2017 boom. There was a time when grands were floating in my bank account almost every week alone from my Twitter account marketing. All this was possible due to one name - Bitcointalk.

So now it's my duty to give back something to bitcoin community. So here is my course of plan for coming days:

  • Development of Indian Board. I would like to acknowledge Heisenberg_Hunter who is doing his best for the upliftment of Indian Board. He united us all Indians on forum on Telegram and now his becoming of Merit Source is cherry on the top. I will try to write some informative threads in Indian section which will serve as guide for existing and future bitcoin users on various issues.
  • Lately I am occupying myself with coding skills. Now the time has come that I use these skills to develop something valuable for Bitcoin Community. My first try would be to make open-source free payment gateway (merchants tool) ending fee charging tyranny of businesses like Bitpay. Many more to go thereafter.
  • I have been contacted by various investors recently who want to collaborate for gambling site with me. But I am very cautious on this one because Gambling Business is no joke. However, my recent potential partnership with Vod supersedes the gambling site idea if we both reach to any consensus on our potential idea.

So that's it. Thank you once again. I would end the thread with specimen of my own work, show-casing my Hero Member rank Cheesy :

A coup?  or a restoration of proper order?

Members really seem to like this, and I generated one card for myself and saved it.. but maybe it would be good to save all three colors just to be able to see the comparisons of the cards with the current algorithm?  I'm going to do that now.

More like a restoration of proper order.
Yeah! Save the current ones, it would be fun to compare when new stats come. Everyone gonna be affected by new stats.

Reputation depends on the card type?
I've created Basic, Gold and Black satoshi's cards, but they all have different Reputation.

Yes! Reputation depends upon Card Type too. If you take the reputation of black card as base then:

(Golden Card Reputation / Black Card Reputation)*100 = 95%
(Basic Card Reputation / Black Card Reputation)*100 = 90%

In other words, black cards are 10% more valuable as compared to basic card and golden cards are 5% more valuable than basic.
Also that is 4 not 9. Just font is little more old school.
1117  Other / Meta / Re: BTCTALK CARDS - The Real-time Custom Cards for Bitcointalk Members on: November 19, 2019, 09:44:03 AM
Ummmm... I think your BitcoinTalk card generator might have been haxxed:

Shocked Shocked Shocked  Huh Huh Huh  Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Perhaps you need to double check the "random" avatars... #justSayin Wink

Haha, loaded some random 10-12 pictures, didn't look those thoroughly.
But you can't deny ETH image is better than white banner! Don't know why will someone choose bitcointalk avatar when he/she doesn't have one!  Huh

Does the 100 mean that my card is the strongest?  Tongue

Yes! It means you're the most popular member here as per present popularity score. But soon gonna edit it to depict better result and you may slide down to 90-95 and theymos will be only 100 after new changes.
1118  Other / Meta / Re: BTCTALK CARDS - The Real-time Custom Cards for Bitcointalk Members on: November 19, 2019, 08:41:48 AM
Nice card designs! One thing though, can MERTS be changed to MERIT?

MERIT instead of MERTS makes the text out of alignment making it looks less cool. I tried everything but still 1px difference will be there either between MERIT: and value or between left border and MERIT:. That 1px is making whole card look out of order, that's why I am sticking with MERTS even though I don't like it too.

Just had a thought that I didn't make my own card, here's the one:
BASIC Cool
1119  Other / Meta / Re: BTCTALK CARDS - The Real-time Custom Cards for Bitcointalk Members on: November 19, 2019, 06:41:32 AM

The site uses sessions to create card. Firstly, details such as bitcointalk id, your chosen specifications for card are saved in a session, then script uses that session to create the card. But since site doesn't record/save any user sessions (because I am believer of decentralization Cheesy), the sessions are user-specific, in other words card can only be viewed on your computer. Hence we can't see your card from link above.
Also you won't see the card now because sessions are terminated when connection is abrupt or browser is closed.

Hi @webtricks,

I created my card successfully but I can not download it as image file. The file I download is in .php. Can you guide me more how to download card as an image, please.

Hello,
You must download card directly from the 'Download Card' button on step2 page once your card is generated.
The image is converted into PHP format if you click 'Display in browser' button.
