2761  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 30, 2018, 03:30:23 AM
Damn that's pure madness going on. The worse part is, we will follow the same pattern as 2014, wich could lead to a price of 2k in the end of 2018 and could hover there till 2020. Same shit going on as 2014 where they pumped it to 1200 and then crashed all the way down to 200.

Starting to look like that....all the friends and relatives are 'piling on' that I am an Idiot..and that I should sell, sell, sell it all!

Luckily, (or unluckily depending on how low BTC and ALTS dump) ...I am essentially 'immune' to peer pressure on such...however...they are sooooo wound up about it

I may cause a couple coronary's among my friends... (hmmmm)

Anyway, back to my original plan ..which also drives them crazy

1) crypto allowed me to retire 3 years early (just turned 63 years) live the wonderful ghetto suburban bachelor lifestyle that I have (before retiring) aspired to...

2) I can have this same 'dubious' bachelor lifestyle ...should I go back to work....or if I simply used my 'traditional Edward Jones investments w/o issue.

3) or I can mine...use my ALT coins and even with BTC at under 500 USD and ALT's dumping worse...I STILL will be able to pull this off and cover private health insurance to boot!

Here lies my confusion... WTF does it matter if I take a flyer on crypto? I likely will be dead in say 25 years at best anyway...it is not like I'm gonna change my ways

or lifestyle at this point in my life anyway...indeed everyone should be telling me to HODL, HODL, HODL and make WILL...will be their only chance to gain off my crypto gamble.

Anyway, sorry for the rant...but hell, its ONLY money...I got other things to do with my life besides spending money I may not have, and if you have to say anything

about the crypto universe..it keeps you on your toes...and the brain pan working and is entertaining as hell....even in the slumps...

so hell, I decide to MAN UP and take some (looking at above) MODEST risk...and sh*t the world is ending...with this kinda clamor...I'll likely hold till tulip status out of spite!

anyway, end of rant...and again...it is that 1.5 billion USD hanging out there from mt. gox that is the cause of all this IMHO...if they have enough sold right now to pay

off the original investments and simply auctioned it off or better yet gave a 'percentage' under some kinda plan of BTC BACK to the mt. gox folk, IMHO MOST OF THEM

WOULD HODL...bang...back to 12k BTC again...but this sword of doom hanging over the market on when the trustee clown is gonna drop the hammer and panic dump...

is starting to p*ss me off!

(end of rant)

confused...there is merit...is the sMerit stuff that the higher ups hand out for folk to pass around more than usual?

confused on how the whole thing works...I hand out merit occasionally...but again sMerit is something else right?

(unsure of the process)

brad

SMerit stands for sendable merit. These are the ones you can hand out when you think a post deserves it.

Merit is the merit each person has received that shows up on their profile. It is needed to rank up on the forum.

It is covered to a rediculous amount in meta.

If you click on the merit button it will tell you how much sendable merit you have, above where it gives you the option to award merit.

Hope that helps

EDIT: each month you receive a certain amount of smerit to hand out. also there is no benefit to holding or hoarding it.

Last question...is the sMerit also under my merit total? I show some like 167 sMerit to send out...or does that just limit the tally ..where I found the sMerit at 167 sMerit?

hmmm...I suppose I will just send some and see if the 167 number goes down.....(doing such) ok ..yep it went down to 166 now

thanks for the clarification...sent you some Smerit for this thread as you requested...

I requested a download of my Facebook data a week ago (haven’t used it for years). Surprise surprise haven’t received it yet.

I got mine..but it took a bit...4 or 5 hours...it has also been years and years..shows up as an email for the link to a .zip file....check your spam

2766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: March 28, 2018, 08:15:55 PM
I bought some too against my better judgement. My outlook is bleak but after coupons i paid $650.00 per L3+ including shipping. That's one rock solid little unit so at that price, it's worth a try. Definitely saving most bullets for next tech. Keep in mind the massive outlier of Lightning Network. If that effort takes hold, this stuff will blow the roof off. There is better than a 50/50 Chance that can happen in 2018. It's always darkest before the dawn.

Yep, that is my bet also..grumpy though it makes me....I"ve too much dubious LISK ..that would be very sucseptable to a price dump of BTC and all crypto....thus

my hedge below...I don't like it...but again at my risk of needing to make $250 a unit to break even AFTER electric...I too figure it is maybe a bit more than 50/50 odds in my case.

(again see below posting) ...but we are all essentially betting (even if just like me in a small part) on Unicorn dreams/ fariydust/ rainbows/ and nubile women.....odds are long...

most likely senario is price goes sideways...and all this equipment I get will just be a 'wash' oranges for oranges ..when the mining pukes...but hey, you know what they say:

dump or pump...chump or champ...we will see!

brad

Wow, super bargain price. Any rumor on next generation of scrypt miner from Bitmain ?

Also have similar concerns...L3+ price keep dumping. Or maybe it just because of competition agains Innosilicon A4, A6 miners.

L3+ is only 28nm and Inno A4 is on 14/16nm. The A4 is only 20% more efficient. The S9 (14/16nm) is 3 times more efficient than the S7 (28nm). Hence, if an L4+ appears, it could be 3 times more efficient. That being said, I dont think an L4+ will appear anytime soon as there is no real need for it. Bitmain can win on pricing by far I believe, especially since they are producing a 28nm against a competitor 14/16nm.

Just my 2 cents
Bitmain is sending a definite signal that they are clearing their inventory in preparation for release of new technology. The legacy units are now only useful to those with huge scale and minimum electricity costs. To say the l3+ will be "useless" is just plain stupid. Although it will be, to all the stunned morons that piled into mining in the last 4 months at record ASIC and Crypto highs. Time to cull the herd.

I got some...(or trying to thru a buddy) L3+'s but with coupons and my tax rate and the equip deduction my REAL risk is only $250 a unit...also paying in LISK which I have a mess of

and if the price does tank in crypto...like all alts that will tank more...so whatever ...this hedge on equip or hedge on holding alts/btc...IF price stays sideways ..whatever 'mixture'

I choose (with above coupons/equip deductions/ etc) it is likely a wash...again if price goes sideways.....IF price dumps for BTC and worse for alts...then we are all screwed and

all this won't matter anyway...whatever the above mixture of equip vs alts thing I'm doing...of course if price eventually rises and you can HODL some crypto...well hell..that's

the bet on this sideways drama of price and likely only doing oranges (equip) for oranges (weak crypto) etc

A NORMAL guy without the above ...will ONLY have coupons (maybe) and the 25% equipment deduction their risk could be as high as 75% in real money (unlike me with my tax rate)

so be aware of the difference I'm at with all this and where you may be on all this angle wise...just the way it is...also remember this 50% to tax man with state is off my

CURRENT mining income...I stop mining and this goes away...so for right now my hedge on this equip risk is pretty damn low...assuming mining of any kind hangs together...

Anyway, if crypto mining is DONE ...then I got equipment for deductions ONE STEP TOO FAR...which is pretty much how I always expected it to end.....IF price of crypto goes

sideways for say months..MAYBE I can pretend it is 2015 and just be grumpy and HODL a lot of crypto/LTC or whatever....and of course if price dumps and difficulty cranks up

even more....well all this won't matter anyway.....and I'll wrap the works up ..mining wise by July 2018 at best anyway...

anyway, as a HEDGE, with the altcoins I'm gonna use vs the rest of the risk out there..it is kinda a wash in my case...even less risk if you are in my boat and have the $450

coupons...so I expect a lot of big whales with the $450 coupons to come out and play in bitmain land (or likely boobytrap land)

Also, I expect this stuff to all sell out quick and probably we are not gonna see any ASIC's anymore ...till as some say new equip by bitmain or the summer sometime at best...

my frigging 'guess' and risk/ratio!

you roll the dice, you take the risk!

2767  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: When do YOU sell? on: March 28, 2018, 03:29:36 AM
I myself have a lot of ALT's and my BTC Hoard is intact from 2015

so I usually go the route of 'panic sell like a 12-year-old child' like I did yesterday..with the ALTS my go to spend stuff...for paying tax man and bills etc from mining etc etc

it is my preferred method... I also have a real talent for ALWAYS selling on the low price side..and am somewhat confused today..in that I sold at $143 LTc and

$7,950 BTC and the price is LOWER than that a day later..(this must be what 'winning feels like')...

So anyway, that is when I sell...I just 'snap' and sell...and like having a 'binge' of eating a Qt of Ice Cream..spend the next day in 'regrets'

it is how I roll

anyway, somewhat confused on price...have not had the 'regrets' hit yet...which is 'concerning' as a price dump on BTC and LTC etc point of view

Naw, it's me...I sell at the low ALWAYS...expect a pump you can thank me with merit or tip me my BTC address...when the market pumps on my loss...

(its a gift!)

2768  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 28, 2018, 03:19:29 AM
I dont have a good idea what will happen from here - only that the old channel lines that are now at 2K and 3K (and will later be higher) will play a significant role and will either trigger the next bull run or will grind on it for 1-2 years before failing.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.

One objection I have to the second part of your reply is that trying to make out 1-2 years beyond now is probably a sterile exercise. The "real world" can push a lot, in either direction, during such a long time frame.
Lets face it, you're only here because you sold at 2k and you dream of getting back in close to what you sold for? Reveal yourself!
Are you asking me or Tera?

If it's me you're addressing, you're far from the truth. Very, very far.

Not that I would mind getting some coin at 2k... but not because I sold. And it's not a thing of today, or tomorrow.
I sold in small batches all the way through the entire rally. Yes some were in the 2Ks but it was only 10% of my coins. Then after we passed 5K I started trading altcoins and made many hugely successful altcoin trades. By the time we reached 20K I made back every coin I sold plus multiplied the entire stash by 3. I rather promptly sold most of my altcoin profits all in the teens. My biggest sell was at $18,800 - and I multipled all those profits with further daytrading during the bounces. At this point I've withdrawn a fortune in cash AND I still hold the original amount of bitcoins that Ive held since 2013, as if I never sold. So now I'm set for both outcomes of bitcoin whether it succeeds or fails and what I'm waiting for is to finally get everything off the exchanges and into cold storage so I can turn all the charts off and enter into ignore mode so I can take a nice break for a couple years again like I did in 2014 and 2015.

did kinda the same thing thou thru MINING...have original hoard of BTC since like 2015....but as I mined I just doubled equipment to defer taxes...and built up a lot of ALT coins

enough thru mining I can retire 3 years early, in the sense I don't have to touch any traditional retirement portfolio that kinda stuff till my full retirement age of 66 years

so the bet is (and BTC would have to dump below 1.5k or about and take ALTS down proportionally for this NOT to work ..my 3 year early retirement..using only the ALTS)

So.....with dubious miner equipment in the wind, unlikely to make sense in 2018... (does NOT make sense since the middle of 2017 to swap crypto for equipment of any flavor with crypto price rises)

I may just have to try this TRADING stuff everyone talks about (or masternode coins) or some other angle

but pretty much the same deal...the bet is on the BTC hoard .becoming something someday...and use the ALT coins from the miner angle above....IF for some reason

BTC and all crypto goes 'tulips' etc, etc...well I'll just have a lot of BTC on the Trezor to mull over and make a T-shirt that says:

Crypto allowed me to retire 3 years early...bite me!

(hey, it is not much of an endgame....but regardless of the price now of about 8k....I'd a been a crying a river if I'd have sold my BTC etc July of 2016 at $475 each...)

thus my perspective on all this...boom or bust..chump or champ...)

Again, interesting same result, but I used mining angles and equip deductions for tax man and such to keep my hoard and get the extra ALTS to do the 3 year early retire thing...

but my BIG TIME mining days may be over, a couple units in the basement per year for heat and giggles is likely my future...just saying...that and HODL that BTC hoard was/is

the main thing

anyway, another perspective on the same BTC HODL trick..from the mining angle....(which may no longer work as of 2018 with Bitmain Monopoly and current prices of any coin)

later

bitcoin price will kill all crypto market  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

It always does...BTC gets a cold the ALT's get Pneumonia!

Just how it works. Folk freak out that their particular ALT is pumping or overheated or they have too many....the safe haven store of value is BTC

is where the wealth runs too...the more the run to BTC the lower the price of ALTS dump...what is interesting now is the price of BTC is down...driving

ALTS down..which further drives BTC down...death spiral (may be overkill) but it is annoying as hell!

2770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: March 28, 2018, 03:01:50 AM

Hey, does anyone have any x11 coin, besides DASH, that is worth a mess of D3 ASIC's attempting to pump/mine/etc?

Or am I simply being delusional?

Looking for the equivalent in x11 coin of if  BTC=DASH then LTC=??? x11 coin

So ANY x11 coins folk would recommend with their devs having their sh*t together and trying in some manner for the 2nd slot like BTC to LTC?

(hey, all I got is a 'hail mary pass' attempt here...doorstop status awaits at the end of the month....I may be in denial....)

I would like to know this too.

Whatever you mine right now, it will be for zero profit. so you could spend $60-$100 a month on electricity, or just buy $60-$100 of your favorite X11 coin. you'll get the same amount ether way.

yeah that MAY work for the next month...even if you mine for a loss in that month...SUPPOSEDLY if the price of DASH ever went back up..you'd hit a price that the month

...as you say..would be even...electric for DASH...eventually ...if you stop'd after this next month..

after this next month ..even with that optimistic 'waiting for DASH to go up hope' ..it will likely not be worth the risk for the month after...so, even the most OPTIMISTIC

viewpoint on all this....you'd pretty much have to, IMHO, shut the D3 off and treat them as doorstops by May 1st 2018....with the current trends...with the above ego protection mode...

I do have an 'explanation' on how/why I got the D3 units...I NEVER say I lost money on the D3 miners...instead I say I broke even on x11 mining...which is true...

IF I count the Baikal cube 300mh I got May 15th 2017 or so.....yep, dead even more or less broke even with electric....on DASH x11 mining with this 'ego cheat'..

the things I will say to protect my ego....so as a presentation...I lost my a*s on the D3's but I broke even on x11 miners...both are true...

'presentation (denial) is everything!'

Seems like there are big fast pushes down followed by a slow movement upwards followed by another big push down. It's that trickle upwards that shows what most of the market sentiment is. The big pushes down are either big sell offs or someone trying to make some money on a short.

A few big holders here are selling some coins to pay off their tax bills before the April deadline. Searing panic dumped his, and other traders and miners in a hurry for the money probably did likewise. That selling pressure should end soon. I'm looking forward to a good pump mid-April.

Well had to dump 10k worth of mostly LTC and BTC some....panic'd like a small child! (hey, its how I roll)...but mining is drying up and have to pay for taxes 2017

I believe that Searing hasn't made a large dump. Certainly less than 100BTC.

I only dump ALT coins...but again...panic'd dumped like a small child...usually that is enough to cause a rally soon afterward...

the BTC hoard is safe....if it goes...tulips...if that is the case when they put me in the nursing home in a few years...I will forget and THINK I'm 'the man' anyway...win/win

much simpler than 'collecting cats' in my old age...on the old USB drive anyway...(lousy end game...but there ya are)

edit: btc was from some ebay sales....under 200 bucks..dust....fyi

the rest alts..to clarify

main thing is the BTC hoard is safe..thou....mining scrypt-pow is looking ugly these days with bitmain equip dumps etc etc and prices ..esp LTC

2773  Economy / Economics / Re: When will the market turn and start growing again? on: March 27, 2018, 06:54:14 PM

As to this thread...I think the price will go 'sideways' at best at around 8-10k  with an ave (if lucky) of 9k per BTC

As to the real problem this year..is Mt. Gox Liquidation...the point of Liquidation is to Liquidate...thus ... I THINK

I read that for all practical purposes, enough BTC has been sold (thus the dumping below 12k IMHO now) to cover

the original Mt. Gox losses in USD $$$ ..at the time of bankruptcy back in the day...

However, I also read that there is still 1.5 billion USD in BTC to move .....so if you get paid in the liquidation in $$$

and the next main meeting is in Sept 2018...I would expect they will sell/move and wrap up the whole Mt. Gox bankruptcy

by the end of 2018.

Thus that means, the market will have to 'eat' 1.5 billion USD of BTC...so hell, we could dump below 2k BTC if they muck

this up too fast moving coin out into the world

thus, HODL is the only option...all this is out of our control....but bet on all this being resolved before 2018, IMHO

they seem to like to 'panic dump' on the lows..that would be a bad situation if they decided they want to wrap this all up by end of the year

which again, I see as likely, due to the fact the original amounts from back in the day can be refunded to people now from BTC sales

so, again I expect them to 'flush the works' and wrap this up by the end of 2018

hope I am wrong, and they give the option to GIVE BTC back and/or an auction format or something else more sensible....but

seems unlikely on how they have moved past BTC

indeed we may be happy to see 8k prices again in 2019 ...if they really 'screw this up'

thus again HODL is only sure option IMHO

but again, I really, really want to be wrong on this

The problem with LitePay blowing up is 1) the lack of oversight makes LTC foundation look weak...so who would partner with them on something similar after this fiasco...

2) BitPay won't take LTC so we are stuck there as well 3) means IMHO, LTC is even MORE connected to BTC's apron strings then before....at least we had some illusion

of trying to break free (LTC) in its own way...so confused on where they go from here on the whole attempt of being accepted by merchants etc 4) other than being a

testbed for bitcoin core ..before stuff hits the btc chain.....nothing going on dev wise at that end...lighting is fine...but now we've shown weakness by the LTC foundation

of overseeing such

likely this is gonna reflect in price...hopefully only sideways though (a guy can hope)

how long is the ROI on them , atm?

There are calculators for that... Simple google search would have given you a good guess.

Calculate around 200+ days given the low LTC price, the increasing diff and your electricity costs

Mine are doing a whopping 2.50 profit a day per machine (and mine are overclocked)

Using the free pool that pays at 101% www.litecoinpool.org/calc calculator I get the following

At next months summer rate (April 2018) starting soon....of 12c kWh and $142 LTC price and 400w and 250mh an L3 gets below:

$1.79 per day for an L3.

24 hours   0.02073776 LTC   2.94 USD   1.15 USD   1.79 USD
7 days   0.14516432 LTC   20.61 USD   8.06 USD   12.55 USD
30 days   0.62213280 LTC   88.34 USD   34.56 USD   53.78 USD

$3.59 per day for an L3+.

At 12c kWh and 800w and 500mh and $142 LTC price an  L3+ gets below:

24 hours   0.04147552 LTC   5.89 USD   2.30 USD   3.59 USD
7 days   0.29032864 LTC   41.23 USD   16.13 USD   25.10 USD
30 days   1.24426560 LTC   176.69 USD   69.12 USD   107.57 USD

At 12c kWh and 1250w and 300mh and $142 LTC price a KNC Titan gets below:

-$0.07 per day for a 300mh KNC Titan (Sob!)

24 hours   0.02488531 LTC   3.53 USD   3.60 USD   -0.07 USD
7 days   0.17419718 LTC   24.74 USD   25.20 USD   -0.46 USD
30 days   0.74655936 LTC   106.01 USD   108.00 USD   -1.99 USD

So man, do we need a pump in price for all the above reasons. I expect another slash in price for the L3+ on the Bitmain site,

but being Bitmain (let them eat cake!) I could be wrong.

Damn, ugly out there in the Universe of Scrypt-Pow...applied to LTC anyway...

Being FPGA miners, will Baikal have enough tech cred...to make firmware updates for such forks to complicate the forking coin threat?

I disagree sandal_hat. I think they will have to drop the price. Basic marketing dictates that. If all your competitors are dropping prices and you're the only one not doing so. You'll go out of business soon. A price war is inevitable at this point. This sort of reminds me of 2015 to be honest. Don't worry, time will tell if Dragonmints will be around.

Yeah, Bitmain is gonna dump prices big time, IMHO. If it is a price war, Bitmain will win.

they made a lot of $$$ on scrypt-pow mining and not shipping for 4 months...doubled the difficulty..I expect the same type of games on a NEW

Sha-256 Miner by them....there will be a price war...so unless, I'm missing some deep pockets, I too believe that dragonmint prices must also drop

or they will 'retire' from the field of battle...

IF I was dragonmint....I'd drop the prices soon and get them out the door in a couple weeks..only the fleet of foot works for them ..being much smaller than

Bitmain.....if they can turn the price down and get stuff out the door in 2 weeks then Bitmain will not have everything their way for once and MAYBE

dragonmint could garner some units out the door in mass for say 4-6 weeks, and disrupt Bitmain's usual schedule of mining first and ship later.... on pre-orders

anyway, we will see I guess
