And you take it until the bet ends??  Shocked

Say he hasn't paid on day 20. You still take bets? that's insane.

If I were you, I'd stop taking new bets at least a week earlier than the 3 weeks resolution time.

Nah. I'm firm on this one.

You should quote all valid bets so far. This forum lets you edit your posts.

I second that.
This thread is interesting, but no way to quickly see how many participants there are.

What's the cutoff?

Up until the bet ends.

Interesting.

I guess all the action will get booked before, say, the 17th day of no payments.

It's sort of like you are giving odds then.

If he pays back to day you lose the little amount that it is booked, but as it drags on and loss is more likely you'll have a lot more action.

So this bet isn't on the fact that pirate was running a ponzi scheme but if he will return the funds on time.

The fact that he is closing due to many people wanting to withdraw their principal bitcoin investment at the same time is another sign it is a ponzi scheme.

He may in fact have all the funds but that doesn't mean that he wasn't running a ponzi.

The bet IMHO should be whether pirate was running a ponzi scheme or not...and not if people will get their money or not.

Not really, since all legitimate banks have that exact same problem too (only mitigated by FDIC). The high interest rate is a sign it's a Ponzi. Either a Ponzi, or a RIDICULOUSLY highly leveraged bet.

That's because all registered banks are ponzi's.

It can also be one of the most profitable endeavors at such scale in modern times. I can't say I've ever seen returns that high. I guess they were even better in discovery times when new trade routes were opened, or when a new and rich mine is discovered until it's swarmed down to normal profitability.

Interestingly the source of these riches remains undisclosed.
