Well, since you're just giving out bitcoins, essentially, I request that my bet be raised from 20 BTC to 30 BTC.

No he is not essentially giving away BTCs....  If it were not for me buying bonds on GLBSE under 50% face I would be doing the same.

You're buying bonds? That's not what you said a few hours earlier..

Just to make clear the bond is now dead or closed as BTCST has failed to send me coins with in 72 hours or make interest payments.

Pirate has defaulted.

Assuming pirate will ever pay in full I will pass along the weeks interest and the face value of the bond.

Again this bond is now dead and to make clear if pirate does not send fund the bonds are worth 0 BTC.

Thank you.

Ouch. Seems like Goat might be up to something. I'd be careful with him. He spreads a whole lot of FUD about anyone he doesn't personally like.

I can't help but feel this entire thread is just a way to see if people, fresh off of losing money to Pirate, will once again risk large sums will no proof that the counterparty has the ability or inclination to pay other than some vague handwaving.

If he doesn't pay, betters win.
If he does pay, betters win, but slightly less.

I must be missing your point

Well he is part of the staff and this is not off-topic. It's in the marketplace, in the gamble section. Lying just to make a test would be unacceptable.

Indeed. That would be downright sick.

I realize that I'm under the minimum number of posts, but I've been around for several months and have nearly 50 posts (I know it's not that many).  If you can't take this bet, no hard feelings.  If it's accepted and quoted by MNW, I'll consider myself bound by it.

Two things. First, it seems like some fresh bullshit that RoloTonyBrownTown is goading people on to increase their bets, and thus (very likely) hurt Matthew A LOT, while having almost no skin in the game himself. People who have been bitching against pirate at least have a legitimate concern about a lot of people being scammed and having their money stolen. RoloTonyBrownTown has just been bitching at and insulting people for no real reason other than being butthurt about something or other. I wish he would put his Bitcoin where his mouth is, too, and since his mouth has been rather large on this thread, I hope he puts up a lot of Bitcoin.

And second, raise me up to 20 BTC, too please.

Smiley

OK, well firstly, yes I'm goading certain people, but mostly just the annoying, overly vocal dicks that have been spouting on and on and on this whole time.   Now is the time for them to be able to actually prove they believe what they have been saying.   Some have, good for them!  Some haven't, those I will continue to goad.   As for hurting Matthew, this is exactly the point of this thread, so I doubt he'll be too upset.

As for having skin the game, I have money invested with Pirate, so there's my skin.   I also offered dust a 100BTC bet similar to Matt's, if you care to read up a few posts Smiley

Now, what else you got?   Oh that's right, nothing, because you didn't read the thread properly before ranting away.  Great job.

This is a little different because bets here are only a risk of reputation. Bets with pirate were risks of sums. And I'm surprised I don't see more of "team ponzi" here hedging some of their pirate-loans.

If I put on my tinfoil hat, I can think of another possibility. For simplicity, assume pirate's exposure is much less than 500k and he's short the claims by only 5k BTC. MNW knows this, so he takes 10k BTC in bets that pirate will pay and gives pirate the 5k he's short. Then MNW collects the 10k.

That's over-simplified, but pirate could reduce his exposure by buying claims or GLBSE bonds from lenders panic-selling for pennies on the coin. At the same time, collect as much as possible from buyers of default bets and other forms of insurance (aka credit default swaps). Highly unlikely that this could be orchestrated. And the credit-default-swaps, btw, right after peaking in 2008, turned worthless when buyers realized AIG sold them without collateral (small warning for speculating on ponzi defaults).

On the other hand, maybe MNW really is giving away 10k BTC, to reward skeptics and ensure that default doesn't fade from memory any time soon, helping the community develop a resistance to ponzis. That would make him just as honest as pirate. MNW says he's "giving it away" even as he says he's "teaching a lesson to those crying wolf on things without evidence" (ps: Evidence of absence is not to be confused with absence of evidence). Pirate says he's "doing a mybitcoin" even as he says "everyone will be paid".

I hesitate to increase my bet because of the foggy judgement standards for three weeks from now, and no reliable records of claims, exposure, etc. I fully intend to pay MNW if pirate can pull it off by the three-week mark, with minimal hand-wringing. Let's watch the facts roll in and cut through all the double-speak.
