There are some concerns with older clients not being able to send tx's due to it working on 0.07 older codebase version.If it was 0.08 it would probably be fine but we may have to have a mandatory update if testing proves this to be the case where all users would have to use the newer version even if they just want to use older version for tx'x but if this is the case all the features we have right now will eventually be worked into the newer clients anyway when we get around to it.Right now the main concern is getting us up to the point of signalling for segwit and we are at 0.13 now but there are a range of issues with the messaging feature now so we may go with a plain vanilla client in order to get segwit done and then add the extras after including native Tor and optional messaging.We will only know this for certain after things are running on testnet for a while to make sure staking and tx's are not adversely affected after release into the wild.This is our priority and the optional extras are secondary to those.

Adding to the previous comment, it looks like it will be a mandatory update.Older versions will no longer be able to send tx's when the current development goes live.

Adding to this a whole lot of effort and time has been taken trying to get the native Tor part working in the upgraded client.If there was a way for it to work it would be done by so we have no choice but to set it aside and move on.Peter is away for 2 weeks but is going to mull over some other options put to him but if a solution can't be found we all have agreed to get the final stage complete without further delays so we can signal for the segwit.

Ok and I think I'm about to ask a really stupid question, considering how long I've been in Crypto. Though most of my crypto has been POW not POS.

I was under the impression with POS I needed to keep my wallet open and computer running 24/7 to stake, however if I'm away for a length of time, I turn my computer off. When I get back home XBC still stakes and gives me a much better single reward.

So my question is, is it just the maturity of the coins that make them stake or should I leave my computer on? (If so I'll pull the old Raspberry Pi out ).

Second question, if the primary is true and computer doesn't need to be on, am I being detrimental to the network by turning it off at night?

I'm sure this is all in the white paper but it's about dinner time here and I'm sure those more knowledgeable than me will be able to answer the questions with me researching for some time.

You don't need to have the wallet open 24/7.Once the coins are not reserved for spending they are then available for work and can earn staking rewards once work is found on the network.Coin maturity and network weight determine how often they get work.

It does help a PoS network to remain even more decentralized having wallets set up to act as nodes allowing more active connections although we now have decentralized seed nodes helping with this with more hopefully coming online this year.On the PoW it is the miners who decentralize the network whereas on PoS everybody staking does this.Same thing but different protocol etc.

in PoW the miners do not make the network decentralized. The full nodes do. Currently, some 11,000 nodes. If you had 1 miner it would still be just as decentralized.

In PoS you need to run a full node in order to mine. In PoW you can use anyone's full node.

In conclusion PoW mining will always be more centralized because you do not need to run full nodes to mine.

We run the seed nodes ourselves due to the set up required and the need to monitor them for performance or failure due to their critical nature but you could set yourself up as a full node using your current client or wait until the new one comes online.I will ask mammix2 and see what he says.
