Damnit. I ordered a B8 yesterday for 4BTC. I have the worst luck.. Just emailed bitmain asking them to charge me 3.1 I stead and keep the 0.9 in my account to be used on my next order.
Dmwardjr, did the engineer come by and approve the upgrade?

Sorry for the delay. I've been doing a lot of math. No, he is supposed to be here this coming week since he did not make it by this week. When he sees what I have already, hears my plans and sees my invoice for what is on the way, I should have no problem getting a total of 600 amps... Hopefully. I'm looking at ultimately running approximately 116,700 watts (380 TH/s) of rigs, exhaust fans, etc... out of my house. I will have 44,700 watts going when those 23 units arrive and I have the power upgraded. I have to get quotes from different electrical contractors after I speak with the engineer. I have 4 contractors on the ready just waiting for me to give them the go ahead to come out and have a look for a quote. I had one guy who came out and told me, "We charge a 'flat rate' of $5,000 for a 400 amp service." I said to myself, "Well, this guy can take a hike." He would want to charge more than this for 600. Geez. The guy never bothered to create an itemized list of costs in materials, etc. I was still nice to him and he ended up allowing me to take a photo of the Senior Engineer's business card he had for my area. It pays to be kind regardless. That's how I got the ball rolling with the engineering department. The power company has already said they would do the feeder cable and transformer at no charge providing I use the amount of power I say I'm going to use for at least 5 to 6 months [Which I am]. Otherwise, they would back charge me for the labor and materials used to upgrade my power. It looks like I'm probably going to have all of this going before I play in several poker tournaments the end of January. I've almost got my wife up to par on how to handle the rigs while I'm gone. She's the greatest!!!

I got my batch 8 yesterday I didn't have any time for testing or disassembly. I only hooked it online before leaving for trip, some observations: same kind of noise as batch 7 (which don't resonate so much anymore after some use), I didn't see any dc/dc converters inside atleast not S1 size, speed was 4.5-4.6Th/s with only 10min uptime, same room where I started batch 7 and temps were 47-50c inlet fan was 100rpm faster (less chips, coolers and restcriction for airflow?).
Obduction for miner tomorrow😊
Batch 7 is jumping a lot from pool to pool or reporting a lot higher or lower hashspeeds at pool side than at miner, any thoughts of this?

Great, I bought one yesterday, now I lost 0.874 which is great and I also have to pay higher VAT taxes (because I bought it when it was 1650, now it's 1300) when it arrives, great job Bitmain.

Hello, today bitmaintech release a new firmwwre.
I test on a B3 and B5 solo and 0 errors for 2 hours mining.
But test in duo Mode (2x B3 and 2 B5 in one controller) and don't recognize more than 3 hashing boards.
Algo test some overclock and stable without HW error @ 650 mhz but maximun 5 thash Speed.

Thanks for the info. I won't be upgrading. What's the date on the firmware? EDIT: Never mind... I see it's December 11

Anyone have a coupon for s-7's my bitmaintech name is philipma1957 same as here.
It is a bit frustrating that I was never compensated for a slow 4500gh batch 1 machine and a slow delivery of my batch 2 machine.
I purchased 5 S-7's from bitmaintech and 1 from lee to be hosted in china
of the 5 direct from bitmaintech 4 hash well 1 hashes poorly 1 was delivered late.
A coupon would be the correct thing for them to do, but nothing.
If anyone has a coupon for me you can pm. thanks phil

inb4 s7 0.5btc in two months If this really is the last batch and they limit it to a reasonable number of units I think these will hold up ok honestly. If not then mining is done, ruined, for good possibly. A few more 15-20% raises and NOBODY will be making money mining anymore. Good for the coin price, end of the road for miners. We all will be mining at cost just trying to recoup the investment within a year and that means a lot more bag holders for sure. I think honestly this is what some of the big boys want. If mining becomes this expensive it will drive the value of their extensive coin holdings up and up. Despite the fact that they might even be mining at a loss they will be driving up the price of their tens of thousands of coins. There is some really complex economics behind this and I tried to make some formulas to encompass it all but there are too many variables. Oh and I forgot that Avalon is the wild card here because all they have to do is over-manufacture a few tens of thousands of units and everything goes to hell anyways. They can sell them for dirt cheap, or just mine in their giant farms. If either Bitmain or Avalon manufacture too many units its disaster for whoever is reading this right now.

Funny to see bitmain swap the price again from USD to BTC moments before the BTC price starts dropping......

Not quite sure why you think this might be the last batch? If you are referring to. 4.73th/s is the final version of S7 which is more stable Then it could mean final batch but I read it as meaning they have stopped messing with the design and have stabilised on the 135 Chip 700MHz, 4.73TH/s version? I would expect there to be plenty more until the next Miner is ready? Rich

Now that I re-read that I think you may be right, they never state that this is the last BATCH. However, One, they never really went above this many batches of a given generation right? They always take a long(~6 month) break. Two, won't it just ruin the market for good. I'd think that they may want to do what they did last time and cut us off now while the mining ecosystem was still in good shape, so they will still have an eager market the next go around. Why kill the golden goose now. I'd say a strong new release just before the halving with a break from massive diff increases Jan-June is just what miners need to stay interested in mining whatsoever. Otherwise I just don't see mining being even slightly profitable again. And without profits, miners won't be able or be interested to buy new gear in 6 months, or ever again for that matter.

I think the number of batches we have had is a special case and a direct consequence of the problems they had with the first batches of S7 which required a 12V + supply voltage. I think they were selecting BM1385 / Hash Boards and Batching them up to keep things going while they iterated the design, reduced the string length and added what I still assume to be a Buck Converter. Two, won't it just ruin the market for good. I'd think that they may want to do what they did last time and cut us off now while the mining ecosystem was still in good shape, so they will still have an eager market the next go around. I think we are beyond Bitmain having that sort of control on the Marketplace, installed base and other suppliers are now just too large. I think they will sell as many as they can make. Otherwise I just don't see mining being even slightly profitable again. And without profits, miners won't be able or be interested to buy new gear in 6 months, or ever again for that matter.
If you have 5c electricity even with a doubling of the Difficulty & the Halving a S7 will still be making Money. Beyond that there is still plenty of scope for a better Miner. I think a full custom 14nm ASIC would after the halving put profitability back where it is now. The bigger issue / unknown is I think the exchange rate staying where it is / improving further? Rich

I really hope your right. I pray and expect to keep mining at a profit because I genuinely enjoy mining coins over buying them. When it comes to 14nm and other advances upping profitability I think its a race to the bottom but one thing is for sure, well see soon enough. I do hope manufactures like Bitmain and Avalon (Is there anyone else for home miners?) stop selling at some point soon to keep these 15%-20% jumps from happening. If I see too many more I'm selling all my gear and shutting down for good. I bet you will too.

The S3+ went into the "teens" in number of batches. I first started mining at batch 8 of the S3+. I first began research into whether I wanted to start mining at batch 2 of the S3. The S3 went to at least batch 15 if I'm not mistaken. Then the S4's came out but only for a short time. There was maybe 3 or 4 batches of S4 before the S5 came out in January or February of 2015. We did not have as many batches of the S3 that we could of had because the price of bitcoin kept dropping all the time. Things are different this time.

LKTec announced a 5 THS rig at 1000 watts. Last I heard, it won't be available until late Q1.
I haven't seen anything about it lately. Maybe they scrapped the plan? 0.2 w/ghs in Q1 might be too little too late?

Love my remaining batch 2 S3. It's pounded away at 440- 500 GHS since July 2014. I overclock it to the max in the winter.

I have 2 batch 8 arriving on Monday. You may recall that the controller died on my batch 1. That was 3 weeks ago. Teh replacemnt should arrive by the end of next week.
I got some long data cables from Finsky. So, I can run both batch 8s off one controller.
Here's a dumb question:
Would it be safe to take a controller off a batch 8 and put on my batch 1...if i set the frequency back to 600?
