I just started tinkering with LTC mining last night with me 6770 and cgminer.

Man, it's like learning to crawl all over again.

That's half the fun though, tweaking your cards to get the highest rate, at the best power consumption, it's like starting the BTC train all over like you said.

It seems like the only way to achieve a high hash rate is with very high intensities, like around 18.  I normally mine BTC with my 6770 with intensities around 4-6 which give a good hash rate but leave the PC usable for other things.  But 18 makes the PC unusable for anything besides LTC mining.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

I'm trying solo mining and I wonder which way is better: having 1 reaper instance with total Mh/s power or I can use 2 instance -I prefer this way cause of mixture of cards 5xxx with 7xxx in one system- without affecting my chances of solving faster the block.
Or it doesnt matter how many instances since I mine just 1 block at a time and all the solved work is passed locally on server.
I really cant wait for the fixes in the upcoming cgminer so i can switch, as im sick and tired of babysitting reaper, but it is the only way I can get very good hashrate on 5xxx and 7xxx.

Maybe someone else has already mentioned this, but do not underestimate the importance of the 512mb buffer limit in cgminer.

I get my best hashrate (517+ kh/s) from 6970s with 1.3 gb+ buffers. Perhaps the slight benefit is due to vliw4, which gcn also shares.

you should really have 2 instances of reaper when using non-identical cards, reason being obvious and simple, they do not use the same configs, especially 5xxx and 7xxx. Using 2 instances has no negative effects. In fact, I use 2 instances on dual gpu cards.

And also, cgminer is unfortunately much more troublesome than reaper for scrypt, especially 7xxx. Thats unfortunate, because I feel miners are the bottleneck of 7970s (and perhaps 7xxx) and cgminer having trouble with scrypt and reaper being abandonware, I cant really forsee that bottleneck being lifted soon.

And before I get argued about for my claims, the reasons are : at intensity 13 being able to get better/similar results at intensity 20 suggests even when running full power/priority, a lesser strain achieves similar results ( do the math, when full "power" achieving the same as non-full suggests a bottleneck) and also the differential between shaders not correlating as much as other models. A couple other reasons.

Read a page or two back, I posted how to do it. 5770 and 7850.

Ok, so I run 2 instances but does that affect in a negative way my chances to solve the block faster in solo mining as I dont use stratum ?
Would it be faster pointing all my total hash power in 1 instance towards the block, or is same thing if i have 2 open instances ?
Basically is 2  instances same/or faster vs x block or is 1 instance vs x block  faster. Also if I fire up the second instance I move to y block or stay on same x block as if i stayed on 1 instance ? Ty all for help!

You'd have to host your own pool server to divide out the block AFAIK. Simpler to just join a pool buddy.

You would solve a block like once every 4 days. Its a little like gambling. Join a pool.

Having some trouble with reaper on Win xp x64.

reaper for 64 bits says

Code:
The procedure entry point inet_pton could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll

reaper for x86 seems launches ok but even though I got the amd app sdk installed says

Code:
Error getting OpenCL platforms

Any ideas what's wrong?

Just got my rig a solo mine test on LTC, after 35 minutes on 410khash of the 7870 reaper instance many zeros and a0ab etc numbers popped up. I did not think that was actually a block, but it was.

For the next 2 days, nothing though Cheesy I would have expected the cgminer with pool stratum leech for solomining to give result, not the half the khash weaker card.

So it is indeed gambling, I'd recommend a pool as well.

Thanks for that! Hopefully I'll add it to my guiminer tomorrow after I test it.

I would say 7950 are best Mh/$. 7970 are very good too but cost more.

I have 3 7970s and the highest Kh/s I can get is 580 using reaper, smarter folks are getting well into 700Kh/s.  7 series are good but extremely hard to setup right now

Is there any place where people chat about LTC setup and optimization?  I really want to figure out how to setup these cards properly.

I have 3 systems

1 Catalyst 13.3b2 on Windows 8 64bit
7970 @ 1000/1500 (i tried 1044/1500 like you had and it only increased hash by 20)
GUIMiner-scrypt w/ cgminer 2.11.2 (2.11.3 breaks GUIminer)
Using CGminer itself with the same settings and any other settings results in 400Kh/s

2 Catalyst 13.3b2 on Windows 7 64bit
2x 7970 @ 1000/1550
GUIMiner-scrypt w/ reaper

3 Catalyst 13.3b2 on Windows 7 64bit
5870 @ 850/1200
5850 @ 825/1200
GUIMiner-scrpyt w/ cgminer 2.11.2

I meant like chat not forum, but we'll see how this goes Smiley

I'll tip someone in BTC if they'll help me with this via teamviewer

Try settings GPU threads to 2 instead of 1 for the 7970s.  That's the only thing I can think of.  If that fixes it, I'll update it in the next GUIminer release.

There are a lot of complaints about cgminer 2.11.3 right now, I need to verify it functions correctly before I will add it to GUIminer

Wow! Very nice.

I would really like to see a comparison from people running GCN cards on a few 13.2 betas vs. prior versions.
