The Detroit Piston added some shooting power into their bench. Joe Johnson signed up with the team after a successful stint at Ice Cube's Big 3 league. The guy may be old but he can still shoot well. https://www.msn.com/g00/en-us/sports/nba/joe-johnson-signs-with-pistons-after-mvp-stint-in-big3/

Good addition don't you think?

Well he could earn his spot as a shooting guard again since Detroit is being surrounded with big men. Or he could be placed as 2-4 position. Since he played 4th on Jazz, and most of his career playing 2-3. He's a good addition.

Regarding the SI rankings in the NBA, I can't believe they are still snobing Zack Lavine. He came from an ACL injury and came back strong 20+ points per game. Thaddeus Young even got a higher rank than him though lol. Okay so probably some of you will say that he's just for entertaining fans, well dunking like that could light up the stadium and can boost your team's morale.

Joe isnt coming in playing power forward.  I cant remember a time he played power forward.  He will be a shooting guard in spot situations.  Zach lavine is kind of a one way player, his defense is spotty which is why thad is ahead of him.  Scoring 20 a game is nice but being a defensive liability allowing more than 20 a game does no good.  He's young if he focuses on shut down d he has a shot at moving up

That's sad, but I'm happy to see hear that he retires with the Warriors, he wasn't able to get a contract so the best thing to do is just to retire.
His contribution with the warriors will not be forgotten, though he was not in the starting line up but being in the 2nd unit, he always showed good effort to help is team, he is a three-time NBA champion, I think he is already an accomplished player, he has nothing to prove anymore.

This guy is not a good 3 point shooter but as a tribute, one of his best 3 point shot in the NBAGrin

What they need is an consistent outside shooter, joe's game is more of an inside offense, and we already have Blake in that position which he can do well, and we have Drummond to score in the paint and take care of the rebounds.

In the line up next season, https://www.lineups.com/nba/lineups/detroit-pistons, I don't see a real good shooter here.
But I like the new addition of players, like Derrick Rose and Thon Maker, the rest if there's new, I just don't know them.

Who doesn't want a consistent outside shooter on their team? Detroit Pistons are done now on roster lineup to the point that they signed a late deal to a veteran instead of another. Maybe the deal wasn't a plan.

No need to put high expectations from him as he is not the same as before but as a veteran and we all know that Detroit Pistons doesn't have any progress for several seasons now, I see this veteran as a good addition. He is even way more good compared to their other bench players.

I'm not saying he is a bad addition, I believe he could help but they could have improve their outside shooting so they will improve this coming season.
Detroit Piston with Blake Griffin is an improve team, but they are not consistent, they have a great start but they faded in the long run.

They were in the playoffs last season because they go lucky to be in the last spot, but Griffin was injured so their chance is gone, I can't even remember if they won at least 1 game in the series against Bucks. That being said, I'm expecting their starters to step up and not only reply on Griffin, https://ph.global.nba.com/players/#!/reggie_jackson stats has to improve, he needs to average at least 20 PPG so he will be able to provide spark in the team, and also, he needs to stay healthy as the team needs a good PG.

His current salary now is $18,086,956 (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jacksre01.html), he is payed well, so its expected  he will provide.

It may be a year or two early but given what he has contributed to the game and the achievement he had in recent years, I guess it's fine to hang it up. He did really well.

Every NBA player aim to be a champion as that is the greatest achievement, there are NBA stars who retire without even winning one championship, but Livingston has 3 championship, and we can see that during that time, he contributed well to the team as a 2nd unit.

At the trend that we are seeing now, most NBA teams are already investing in younger players and that will minimize the chance of players who are already at 30+ to have a contract, but of course, there's an exception, but you have to play like to Lebron so you will be safe.

When Livingston came out of the draft he was looking towards a great career kid was tall quick and was a nasty ball handler....I remember that knee injury was gross.  There was a point they didnt know if the kid would walk the same again let alone play basketball in the nba.  Always humble good for him.

They need a veteran. That is all I can say.
Maybe his game with Big Three did boost him up but let us see if it will also be seen in the league.

Dont get mad at me. I love this guy. I was a fan when he was blooming at Phoenix Suns where they all run non stop and every possession is like a fast break. Yeah those two years where Steve Nash got a back to back season MVP and they fought well. Just short to get that ring.
For me, he is a good addition. Maybe a wise adviser for the young people there.
Who is mad? lol
I don't expect him to come out and start putting up those numbers like he used to either. He may be a good sub for Blake who carried the team on one leg last season. I'm also interested to see how he will link up with another veteran in D. Rose.

Oh that could be cool. 2nd stringers dominating. Once stars are out then they could make something happen like changing the phase of the game or getting more lead.

Speaking of 2nd stringers.
Anywhere he goes I am happy for this guy. He once lead a good 2nd stringer team and they became champions.

I guess it cannot be really seen with age. Once the stars are resting anything could happen and dude Livingston lit up some fire in that Oracle Arena when he is on the floor.

Livingston is known for his injury and his very good midrange jump shot but nobody really remembers the connection between those two. If you ask people they will tell you that they remember the injury and know his injury but they have no idea about his past.

Before the injury Livingston came into the league as a guy who drove inside very well, quite athletic, dunk like a mad man and also pass very well, he played point guard at his height because he was a great passer, nowadays they make people play SF and call it point forward but at that time he was a point guard. After the injury he never got his hops back so he worked on his midrange like crazy, he locked himself to the gym and made thousands upon thousands of shots every single day until he was recovered, so when he came back he may not have the dunks he used to have but at least he got that wet midrange we all love him for.

Yes. I think that became his signature shot. That awkward kind of shooting position where everyone thinks it will not go to the basket.  Grin
It did worked quite well for him.

Livingston is known for his injury and his very good midrange jump shot but nobody really remembers the connection between those two. If you ask people they will tell you that they remember the injury and know his injury but they have no idea about his past.

About this though. I do remember he is a champion and he went to a game with Steph Curry. Maybe that is what people will remember about him.
Or it could be like "he teamed up with the super powered team" just like how they said it which I dont really believe.
They became super powered because of their efforts and hard work. What is wrong with that?

Three-time NBA champion Shaun Livingston announces retirement after 15-year career

"I’m excited, sad, fortunate and grateful all in one breath," Livingston wrote. "Hard to put into a caption all of the emotions it takes to try and accomplish your dreams."
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/warriors/2019/09/13/nba-golden-state-warriors-shaun-livingston-retires-after-15-years/2311279001/
It may be a year or two early but given what he has contributed to the game and the achievement he had in recent years, I guess it's fine to hang it up.

Yeah, he gone through a tough situation and there are only few NBA players who were able to get back on their shape after a serious injury.
It's all about the passion or the love of sports as no matter how big and serious the injury is, if they are willing to continue they will find ways to go under rehabilitation to be healthy again.

Look at my man PG, he was also got injured but last season was probably his best season after injury, he was even nominated as an MVP candidate and now that he pairs with Leonard, I think he has a chance to win a championship here. I love this kind of players, and one thing,, before I forgot, we have also DRose who are still playing until now though we haven't seen him playing his old self already but at least he is trying.

Give this man a break, he deserves it.

Thanks for all your contribution Livingston! Enjoy your life now together with your family with this retirement.

I'm a bit sad to know that he is moving away from the NBA  Sad. Got a chance to follow this guy with his Golden State Warriors jersey and he does contributed a lot to that team but sad that they let him go, the management should have sign him at least a season before he retires but we all understand that this is business and not charity lol. I often call him "little Durant" because of his size and that mid-range pull-up against a smaller defender on the keyhole.

But that's it, every player will have it's own ending so happy retirement Shaun.

He really deserves what he got from the NBA after a illustrious career. I mean this guy has also suffered a injury prior to joining the GSW. But he still embraces his role even as a second unit and we all see how he contributed to the success of GSW. I'm sure Golden State will give him a beautiful tribute.

I just hope he continue to support the league despite his retirement. There are still a lot of ways he can help especially to new players as a veteran.

It is just sad when this happens, I mean I just hope they can play more, I know some of them wanted that too.

^^ He really had success with Golden State Warriors. As far as I can remember, they take him after he got injured so that's a risk, but it soon paid off because Shaun provided spark from the bench when then needed and he also did some clutch performance that push the Warriors to be that successful.

He'll be remembered as a the man that gives some rest for the splash brothers and make his stayed be an impact, a short distance shot that have a good high percentage basket, this retirement indeed too early as what we've seen from his last performance, he still have the game that still contribute momentum for GSW.

For sure this decision to hang his jersey is hard for him, it's a tough call maybe having 3 rings and be satisfied from what he  already achieved influenced him to make this decision, ending his careers with a sweet journey. Thanks for the memories Shaun.

Correct, it was really a nasty injury and we never thought that he can came back from that injury and developed himself in the GSW uniform. Some NBA analyst think he is done already, but he proved him wrong.

If I'm not mistaken, I said that if no one will hire him this season, he will seriously consider retirement. But he has a good NBA career winning multiple championships with the then GSW dynasty. So it's just about time to call it quit and focus more on his personal life. Good decision.

Here's a news from https://www.hoopsrumors.com/

Quote
The Lakers petitioned the league for a disabled player exception to replace injured center DeMarcus Cousins. If granted, L.A. would have $1.75MM — half of Cousins’ $3.5MM salary — that could be used any time through March 10.

This is kind of new to me.
I didn't think there is a kind of exception or ruling in the NBA when an injured player suddenly happens. Still digging through what kind of rule is that or when it should take place.
Maybe because he is injured after signing and while the season haven't started yet?
