I don't understand why people think that rookies can't make differences, just in the recent years that I can remember, Donovan Mitchell made a huge difference to his team, Booker made a huge difference to his team, Jason Taytum almost became the rookie with the most points in a playoff season, Doncic became one of the most respected player in the league all of a sudden.

Rookies can make a huge change to their teams, I know college is a lot easier than NBA but that doesn't mean players can't come in and make a difference on day 1, they totally can do that.

Zion has been hyped like hell, I do not see a huge scoring threat or a big leader in him but I think he would be a great defensive threat to every team and grab a bunch of rebounds which would be all that is expected of him, Pelicans already have a great young core so now they will grow together and in 5 years they will probably be a threat to NBA championship if they can jell well together without breaking up the team.

They can but we also have to consider why some of these rookies play well in their first season. Some opposing teams don't exactly know what to expect from these new players and it could take time before they could figure them out. I don't remember who it was but someone said it before that it was harder for him to score in his second season because he's being guarded better than when he was a rookie.

Maybe they are still inferior to the Jazz team but their team could compete with the Spurs. It's probably one of Pop's weakest team. It's not going to be easy buy I'm not gonna rule out the possibility of Mavz sneaking in.

Weaker than what they had last year, probably not. Dejounte Murray is returning to the team, they've also added two solid wings in Lyles and Carroll, plus Tim Duncan will be an assistant coach. Don't forget that SAS have one of the longest streaks in making the playoffs @22, they haven't missed the PO since 1998!!!

I see a lot of people are sleeping on the Jazz and might be surprised where they finish come April. Jazz have some pretty nice additions this past offseason in Bogdanovic and Mike Conley. They are being projected to have between 53 and 57 wins, which means a top 4 team in the West. Current odds for Jazz to make the playoffs: 1.03 to 1.04 lol

You mean to tell that a sophomore and a guy who hasn't played for a year and a half coming off a serious injury will somehow top all that ^^^.

Yes me too, if there is a healthy Porzingis completing the season or maybe just 70 games will do.

These are strong teams in the West and they will need to crawl their way into winning with each of them to put them in the lower spot.
I bet the East will have some bad standings because for sure they will be losing each road game with the Western power houses.

If ever there is a chance to make it to the top 7 or 8 then it will be cool. It will be the Jazz or Spurs which will be out if ever.
But who knows, injuries may happen.

Coming from this argument, I always put in mind those days when GSW showcase their talents without any known big names or superstars. Been able to win the title and start the regimen, Every teams inside this league have the potentials, it is the coach and the management that will bring the entire franchise to be more competitive while playing inside the league.

With Luka, Kristaps and Boban to lead the way, let see if how this team will be this coming 2019-2020 season.

Mavs fan out there, did you watch the recent interview with Kristap Porzingis?

Look at his built. I've noticed that his body becomes more bulk up. Damn, what did he do while out on NBA (aside from involving into a brawl lol)? Like he isn't came from an injury.

Maybe others will see it as a disadvantage since he might become slow but for me, he will be like an athletic version of Dirk Nowitzki.

Probably not  version of Dirk since they don't have the same style of play. But I'm looking forward to where this porzingis and luka connection will take the mavs this season. They're not making as much noise the teams like the clippers and the lakers, but we may be looking at a dark horse here when playoff seadon comes.

I still fancy those chances Wink As I said I would not rule out that possibility. You never know what can happen during the regular season like injuries to key players of other team as pointed out in the previous comment.

Coming from this argument, I always put in mind those days when GSW showcase their talents without any known big names or superstars. Yup, I'm excited to see what they can bring to the league this season. It's a decent line up and we'll see how the coach put them together.

Well, the guy can definitely shoot but not as effective and efficient as Dirk. Maybe when he develops that legendary one-legged fadeaway shot  Grin

Well, probably he made enough time in the gym toning up his muscles. And I dont see any disadvantage from his body transformation right now as this kid has talent, he can shoot, can do both high post and low post.
Whats interesting about the Mavs is, how will Porzingis and Doncic execute on the offensive end.
Nevertheless, Mavs are still a playoffs contender.

Indeed, he is absolutely fittter than before and I don't think wishing Porzingris remain to his slim body is still a good idea because the others are now also evolving. He will fall behind, his body most probably getting crushed by bumping into other's brick wall-body if he didn't change at all Grin.

The pressure is on them because I see them right now as the hope and future of Mavs. These two young men should perform great this upcoming season to prove their worth.

Yes, indeed. They seem like a close-to-contender-team. Big potential, even bigger expectations but it's kind of understandable. With two such talented players which look like they were made for each other, this team can be a threat to a single rival in the league. And phenomenal mentor in a person of Dirk. Yeah, this can work even up to +50 wins per season.

Of course he should build up muscles to not easily get overpowered by his match ups. It's not as if he will get slower but it's a must to bulky up a bit for this physical game. I mean slim players always gets overpowered by muscular players.

Other than that, NBA players nowadays didnt think getting their body buffed will make them become slow. Take Giannis as an example, look how he became even a bigger monster after his body transformation.
Every transformation made by an NBA player always has a corresponding reason, depends on the player how he adjust to his new weight. For me, Its better for the big men to be buffed to have a wider shoulders, which is a very big advantage inside the paint.

True, but I dont expect them to compete in NBA finals, as the Western conference become tougher. I'll give them, probably 3 years if they're still intact then they will have a shot in the finals.

Dude he better be. He should be making his move in building his body or else he's just gonna end up just like he ended up last seasons in his career. He's already great NBA player. The only reason why teams seeing negativity from him is because of his injury records.

I am more worried about his shooting percentage rather than him getting slower.
When you are changing your body figure you may also destroy the way you shoot or how strong and mild a shot should be.
It needs to be trained while he is gaining more weight.

KD is one example of it. He doesnt go way far of making his body bulky to avoid losing his assassin shots.

But with the right method it might work.
Although it is true that gaining more muscle makes you gain more scale weight than fats.

Perhaps he is getting his body in shape this season specially if he is going more on the paint rather than shooting outside. So bulking up is the logical choice here.

Definitely he can be slower, but I don't think that it will affect his shooting hands though. He could literally practicing thousands of shots per day with his new frame and see how it goes for him.

It's going to improve his defense too.  Dude was already decent in the paint with a semi fragile body.  His effort on defense is underrated, wish he wanted to stay with the knicks I liked the kids game.  Wish him well on the mavs and hope he fully recovers from his knee injury, 7 footers and massive knee injuries dont always fair too well.

I think it is more about him moving to Center position than anything else. He may look like he got some more pounds on him and muscled up but in reality that is what required from porzingis if he wants to play the center position.

Now, if he stays at power forward which I doubt now that he is no longer that quick and agile and skinny than he would have to make up the difference with something else but if he moves to center position like we all expect him to, then he will have to fight for rebounds against players like Embiid, KAT, Drummond, Howard and many others that list goes on. Hence, putting on some muscles was a good idea but not enough, its not gonna suddenly make him a great beast, there are tons of other players who have that type of size and power, he just catch up to them to become a center.

Gaining weights to be more ready with inside game type basketball, both defense and offense this guy needs to show something after being away for quite some years, this new look is interesting if what kind of adjustment he workout and how the Mavs  will use him up.
Good luck to him and looking forward that he will stay healthy this season and help the entire franchise to stay competitive.

But if I am the Dallas management I would still prefer him as the KD type of play.
Moving to center will most likely slow him down even if we take out the weight that he is going to receive by toning his body.
You are a center so will always be taking rebounds and blocking shots. With that it will be a slow phase game while waiting for him to post up for offense or whatever the play would be.

That is not how NBA is being played now. Lots of fastbreaks and a sudden 3 point shot with equipped players and also a fast paced game. Imagine Dallas against a Houston Rockets team.

I just dont understand it if they will put him on that position.

During the early years of Dirk, there was also an experiment when he played as a center but it doesn't work at all that's why he played back in a position where he can manage the ball, shoot or pass around, I think a forward position fit this kind of player, like Dirk which his idol.
