Burner account scandal will cause KD a lot more than just taking a break. I think forcing him to retire, even while he still wants to play, is a possibility. Not like "force" him in the sense that he would be gone, I think if he is waived by the rockets and then not hired by anyone else, it's a possibility.
I remember very clearly when Melo was out of OKC, he looked for a team to play and had to give a long break because nobody wanted him and that was leading to his retirement, not because he wanted to but league didn't wanted him anymore. Same could possibly happen to KD, he could be waived and then no team may want him and he would be retired against his own will. This isn't a small scandal and I hope it gets better.
I think that burner account issues towards KD are just a minor case compared to Ja Morant's gun scandal or Kobe's sexual assault case, but that didn't force them to retire. These people are too talented to get waived, or if the Rockets waive him, there are still a lot of teams that will most likely pick up KD, because he still is a superstar caliber and can significantly contribute on both ends of the floor.
Melo's case was different than KD's. Melo became outdated become too slow to the point that he can't keep up with the young talents of today, that's the reason why nobody wants him anymore.
KD had a burner account issue before, while he's still with the GSW, but I understand that today's issue is much worse than before. With how he is thrashing his teammates using that burner account, the Rockets would probably waive him. But then again, several other teams will still pick him up, not because they tolerate his behaviour, but because of his talent.
