I can see the discussion here but i would say that altcoin help Bitcoin a lot in terms of New users being introduced to bitcoin.  I also believe that altcoin are not used only for trading or so we say useful.  But instead altcoin are somehow a testing grounds for some possible update to bitcoin in terms of application with regards to masses' reaction.

If we check the forum activity we can see that the most popular board is altcoins so I understand that many people were/are introduced to cryptocurrencies through these altcoins and learn more how these work and learn the power and the potential of bitcoin.

yes that is right that alt coins moves faster but we do not have to depend on the price of alt coin we have to examine the volume because if there is low volume then there are more chance that the price of the alt con will fell down.

I think competition is always useful. It's good to have alternative crypto currencies. So the crypto money sector has got people's interest. Anyone who wants to convert this interesting digger is making a new crypto money. To me, every new crypto money that comes out actually increases the value of bitcoin.

In a way the innovations brought by altcoins may help Bitcoin, but I think these improvements could not be implemented at the moment. In order to be able to implement several of these improvements, it would be necessary to make Bitcoin more efficient in terms of scalability. And I think there's a long way to go to make that happen.

You are totally wrong. Altcoin is very important since their dev know how to develop the coin with the new technology based on the blockchain system. Bitcoin is an origin and it is not as strong as other cryptos on the advance technology aspects. Therefore, with altcoin, Bitcoin can know its weakness and dev team will know how to fix Bitcoin appropriately

Altcoins are certainly a  good platform to try out new technologies like litecoin is doing with segwit if the tech works & doesn't centralize cryptos it might get adopted by bitcoin and altcoins make it difficult for regulators to have control of any cryptos for continued their existence.

There's no need for different altcoins in my opinion. I think we all shouldn't bother of alts, many of them will eventually be devaluated, when side chain technology is implemented. At the same time I must give credit where the credit is due, some alts may be useful for example Altcoin which will be tested with Segwit before activation on Bitcoin

Yes. Great answer. As of tge competition it really does matter to gain more value. What else is there? Some of those who wants to buy altcoin are going to a bitcoin transaction first. In this event they buy bitcoin and the demand is gettig higher. Imagine if all altcoin will be passing with bitcoin first before they can buy what crypto currency they want. That would really make a big change for its price.

i am agree with drwtsn32, without altcoin, bitcoin can still exist and bitcoin can be traded with fiat or make a payment to buy or pay bills and only few altcoin that could be like bitcoin but the market exchange will use bitcoin rather than altcoin. but altcoin need bitcoin to continue the project and the altcoin price is following with bitcoin price.

i disagree because there is no connection between bitcoin and altcoins and there has never been any. although you can find some rare exceptions such as litecoin being very similar and also having segwit these days, but in total they are not connected.
and for all these years altcoins have been there only to be traded with pump and dumps to help us make more money or bitcoin.

there is a lot of good altcoins which gained a lot of value and user's attraction. but I don't think any new coin can replace bitcoin.
miner's won't let it happen. bitcoin is first and the only crypto currency which got that much success.

Meaning you are inconsistent for what you are saying, no offense. Bitcoin don't need altcoin, I don't think so, actually bitcoin became popular because of altcoin, why? People or the community here in this industry who don't have a capacity to buy bitcoin directly, there tools to have bitcoin was altcoin, meaning altcoins is the reason why many of the investors has been capable to buy more bitcoins.
