I have heard that some Vegas casinos offer video poker payouts even higher than 100% in assumption that most players will not use optimal strategy. This is true for humans, but I don't think for the bots also Wink

They also probably assume that after hours of staring glassy-eyed at the screen and your fourth free martini, you'll hit the wrong buttons once or twice in that span of time.

I think these are very rare nowadays.

I noticed there are other games on the site besides JOB9/6 like Deuces Wild Tens or Better etc. From what I can discern the JOB9/6 is still the best payout. AMIRITE?

Still with progressive jackpots you can get >100%EV

I see there is a progressive for the RF now for 5 coin bets. At 4888 payout for the RF the game becomes 100% payout.

Only if you modify your playing strategy optimally, taking the size of the jackpot into account.

If you only know how to play optimally for a 4000 jackpot and always play that way then the pot has to reach 4921 before the game is expected to pay out 100%.

And if you're using the auto mode then it probably has to be even higher than that, since auto mode doesn't even play optimally when the pot is 4000.

1)  I'll get my hard core video poker associates to take a look at this and tell me:
1a)  when it's +EV to play for the progressive jackpot

and

1b) if auto-play is making the right holds and which ones, if any, are wrong.  I'm pretty sure I can find some differences between the holds I saw it make and wizard of odds strategy for 9/6 jacks or better.

will run some trials in a moment and try to find an example

Sorry if I missed this.  When the bet size is .005, does the single bet qualify for the progressive, or only the 5 bet, which would be a .025 bet?

If not, then it would be far preferable to do "max bet" on the .001 bet than a single bet with .005, and it would be pointless to do any betting from the .05-.2 range.

The paytable clearly shows that you only get the jackpot if you play 5 credits at a time.  So you're right that it never makes sense to play a single 0.005 credit when you always have a better expectation from playing 5 0.001 credits.

It's hard to make the case that it's "pointless" to bet 2 0.005 chips per spin.  The expected return isn't much different either way, but the variance is higher with higher stakes.  In most cases the expected return is slightly negative either way, and so arguably it's all "pointless".

There are 6 games.  Here are the expected returns of each, taken from pages linked from http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/ :

In the order listed on site:

99.5439% jacks or better
99.1388% tens or better
99.1660% bonus poker
99.1065% double bonus
98.9808% double double bonus
99.4179% deuces wild

Sorted by expected return:

99.5439% jacks or better
99.4179% deuces wild
99.1660% bonus poker
99.1388% tens or better
99.1065% double bonus
98.9808% double double bonus

In short, you were rite.

Hey guys -- just chiming in here.

Basically everything you guys have said is correct:

1. 4888 is the breakeven progressive jackpot, IF and only if you're playing optimally.

2. The autoplay bot does NOT play optimally, though according to Wizard of Odds, it plays very well -- 99.46%.

2.a. I don't think we're going to improve the autoplay algorithm because we plan on opening up the api for other players to write more autoplay bots.  Plus, if we wrote the most optimal strategy taking into account progressive jackpot sizes, that would take all the fun out of our site:)

3. Jacks or Better does offer the highest EV for the player.  We tried to pick paytables that were close enough to JoB, but we wanted JoB to be the main focus.

4. Congrats to whoever just landed the 4500 RF jackpot.

5. We've got some pretty big things coming up for everyone...stay tuned:)

I heart you very much.

1)  I hit a royal flush obviously loading with 1 btc / .001 max bet / autoplay / let it run for a while on my other monitor.  Pix or it didn't happen:

2)  progressive jackpots and APIs to allow ppl to write their own strategy for autoplay is an absolute amazing stroke of genius.  Keep rolling on this project, i love it and will keep giving you ups.  Not just because I hit a 4-btc royal.  I was making vids for autoplay long before that Smiley

Looking at the chat in that pic it looks like you had it auto-doubling for you.

Does the auto-doubler ever try to double the royal flush jackpot?  Maybe you were just lucky that it didn't lose the jackpot for you?

Congrats on your win.  Smiley

I have a stuck game.  I clicked "Draw" for a game and nothing happened.  The "Draw" button went blank, but 5 credits (at .005 per credit) were deducted.  I left, and a few minutes later, heard a deal happen.  The hand is 2c 5c Qd 5c Kh.  So I clicked to hold the kings, and hit Draw again.  Again, it froze.  Now, if I try to reload, it tells me I'll forfeit the bet by doing that.

I'm not sure what's up.  The site seems to be down, but I got dealt a hand.

Hey -- sorry that this happened to you.  It sounds to me like it was a simple network connection error.  Can you email admin@bitcoinvideopoker.com with the first 10 digits of your account id (or your player name) along with more details about what happened?

I went looking through the game log and didn't see anything suspicious but we may be able to work something out for you.  E-mail us and we'll get back to you asap.

thank you once again BTC vid poker!

I was having a few beers last night in between diaper changes, getting some work done.  I deposited 3.33 coins and of course click autoplay / auto-double 50% / fastest.   boy can that thing suck down 3.33 coins quickly.  Much like Marshawn Lynch, I have so much determination though.  I re-deposited what turned out to be a very lucky 4.20 coins, the Bankroll in .005 credits was up around 1000 when I went to bed, just leaving autoplay running and sort of wondering if it stops when you hit a royal (I know I hit a royal before on the .001 version, but I was so fired up to win those 2 coins I really forgot if auto-play stops or not when it hits.

Always willing to gamble, and really scratching that late-night degen urge, I left autoplay running with about 1000 credits in it when I went to bed, and it *almost* hit right at 4:20am which of course when mixed with the 4.20 btc deposit would mean that it's all rigged for thc-based gambling wins.

I was inspired by your first royal flush win, deposited 1 BTC and left it to auto-play on the 1 mBTC game.  Many hours later I quit, with a balance of 0 credits, and decided that would be a good time to retire from my bitcoin video poker career.

[...] sort of wondering if it stops when you hit a royal (I know I hit a royal before on the .001 version, but I was so fired up to win those 2 coins I really forgot if auto-play stops or not when it hits.

So did it stop automatically?  And does it ever try to auto-double a royal flush win?

Always willing to gamble, and really scratching that late-night degen urge, I left autoplay running with about 1000 credits in it when I went to bed, and it *almost* hit right at 4:20am which of course when mixed with the 4.20 btc deposit would mean that it's all rigged for thc-based gambling wins.

Congratulations on the 2nd biggest video poker win in bitcoin history.  Smiley

I don't see the rules listed anywhere.

How many decks do you use?  How many times can I split?  Can I hit split aces?  Double any two cards?  Double after split?  Surrender?  Dealer hits soft 17?  Etc...

The blackjack screen is flashing "PLAY 10 CREDITS" at me, even after I changed the bet size to 6 credits.

Is that a bug, or am I misunderstanding what it's trying to tell me?

Another bug?  I cannot act - all the buttons are grey.  There was an error message in a pop up dialog, but I didn't make a note of what it said:
