I've been talking with our hosting provider and they have told me this:
"I have double-checked the information our technicians have so far. The thing is that the server your site is hosted on is experiencing a strong DDoS attack at the moment. As a result, you are facing unstable performance and intermittent connectivity."
So I did this and found the bottleneck:

Looks like the culprit is a Level3.net server out of Miami.
