Does the gtx 1080 work well for mining on Windows 10 yet? Or should I still be using Windows 7 or Linux

Hello
Any ideas why ethminer does not work in native stratum (-S ) with dwarfpool Huh

I have seen everywhere that they use a proxy program, i don't want to use a proxy if ethminer can mine in stratum directly

if dwarfpool does not support ethminer, what other pools can you recommend that do that?

thanks! Smiley

Question.
has anyone any idea how to increase fan speed in the new GTX 1070 ?, i tried via nvidia-settings but it says: property is read only Sad

I also couldn't find any way to do it with nvidia-smi interface

the card is unnecesarily hot, fans are at 20% and the card backplane is like 70 degrees insane!. (gigabyte G1)

so far i couldn't find any way to do that.

i can bug the card with an external PWM controller but i prefer to leave it original if possible Smiley so... if there is a software solution (on linux) would be awesome.

You have to create an xorg.conf file in the X11 folder and add the coolbits option. I have my Gigabyte G1 gaming cards setup as Coolbits 31 and it allows me to modify the fan and core/mem clocks. However, my G1s run in the 63-65C mark constant, so I don't mess with the fans....

Here's a really rough guide I used to get mine working...PM me if you need help as I'm new in Linux and it took me 3 days to fill in the gaps...

https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/7780/gtx1070-linux-installation-and-mining-clue-goodbye-amd-welcome-nvidia-for-miners

wow, thanks!, that... kinda looks complicated for just adjust fan speed, the GPU itself is cool enough (53C ) but the VRM section is very very hot because fans are usually below 30% speed which is completely stupid, they design this card to broke from excess heat!.

I'll give it a try and decide your method or the hardware method (which at this point i prefer, but if i can avoid touching the card, better)

i ve tried to test expense too, as my 380's are unstable on etc & eth

but miner crash at start when it try on pool exp.suprnova.cc

but i don't understand why some miners crash on etc and others working fine

all 380 2 gigas gpu's

asus ring 5 gpu they working fine, + 1 solo xfx working fine too

but my xfx 6 gpu ring just get crazy at start or after few minutes on etc and some more on eth before it get errors
and the 5x sapphire can few minutes or couple of hours before get same errors

 Huh so weird

Can you post me the message how it is crashing ? Maybe it is using the wrong Stratum Variant ?

If you are using any other Version than genoil 1.1.0 you have to use "-SP 2" in the cmdline like so:

ethminer.exe -G -SP 2 -S exp.suprnova.cc:3333 -O myworker.1:x

try -SP 1 instead of -SP2 works in eth-proxy compatible mode with -SP 1
This is the flag that i am using. Working also on your pool, tested...

give exp.coinpool.biz a try ...

cmdline: ethminer -S exp.coinpool.biz:5566 -SP 1 -G or -U -O <Your Expanse Wallet Address>.<YourRigName max 6 Chars (a-z,0-9,-,_ allowed)>:x
Working stable at expanse, if you have questions or problems we could do a debbug session. write everything in logfiles.

ok i try later, i m on etc again, it's stable again for 3 days, so strange some time it works fine an other times i can't mine it

Confirm ? .

I'm not able to push my Palit Super Jetstream 1070 past 30 MH/s (Win 10 64bit / Genoil 1.1.7 / 369.09 WHQL).

But on the other hand it can do 28 MH/s while taking only 70-80 watts (set at 55% power limit, core underclocked by -400 MHz and memory overclocked by +400 MHz in MSI afterburner).

It's just +750 memory for my card, I have an already pretty overclocked card with a good cooler resulting in 4650 memory speed. Shouldn't almost every card reach that kind of level ?

it seems not, mine just do some artifact and freeze afterward i can reach +600 easily but 1000 is too much

I also could only underclock my core by -200.  Just upgraded from the standard release 4.2.0 to the 4.3.0 beta 4 and now I can underclock the core -400.  Thanks for the heads up!

Well I just realized what a fucked up bitch these nvidia voltage regulations are.

Underclocking the GPU core increases the power that you need because the driver feeds the chip a higher voltage. Therefore its useful with the current genoil miner to increase the gpu core speed to save some power( Roll Eyes), because the mining gpu speed is anyway locked at 1620 (atleast for my card) and reduce the power limit to 50%.

Core Clock -400 -> Voltage 1.043 V -> 77% TDP = 146 W
Core Clock +150 -> Voltage 0,76 V -> 54% TDP = 102 W

Have fun, it's really that retarded..

You are wrong if you change power limit voltage drop, it also depend on card brand, Gainward on 83% power limit drop voltage to 0.88v, and you need to be carful with OC or past 1850mhz will crash

It might be a matter of brand

My EVGA does not drop the voltage in such a way and to my knowledge nobody can adjust voltage on the 1070 yet without modding

i noticed this also, but only if you play with the core, without touching the power limit, otherwise it is forced to drop since the PL limit the current

p.s. i was able to reach 30MH with +600 on the core and around 100w only

those 27MH as a bottom bar, is because i'm using the pc, otherwise it would be 29+ stable with 30 peak

i believe you can easily do 80-90w 30MH or even lower, which would put the 1070 as the best card for etheruem not even the nano can compete
