Avalon,

If you are watching... might I make a suggestion..  It would be nice if you would limit the orders to 1 per customer for like the first hour or two when batch 2 opens up...  If there are still units outstanding in the batch after everyone who wants one has ordered, then go ahead and open the gates for multiple units...

Regards,
Sigg

He said in OP, Avalon has always been a Build To Order operation. Meaning that there will be exactly as many units produced in batch 2 as there are orders, regardless of how many each person orders.
In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.

First batch was sold out for 20 mins max
However there were some units available later, because some folks did not pay.

Didn't Avalon also state that Batch #2 was going to be 500 units?  I took "build to order" to mean they will not order the parts till they have been paid..not to mean that they will build as many as everyone wants.

Avalon, could you please clarify?

Thanks,

yo - got children, got to work tomorrow

No children, but same here on the "got to work tomorrow" ... I managed to arange to work from home today, won't be able to do that again on short notice..    Hoping the new date is on the weekend, or that we get at least 48 hours notice so we can make arangements...

also, how long will we have to pay after we submit the order?

Immediately. There isn't any leeway on orders..meaning you pay when you order.

Can one guy buy the entire batch, or is there a limit to the number of units per head?

I think it means that they will build what the customer orders, in the quantity that the customer requires, and not a single unit more. The 500 (600?) cap is because of capacity in the delivery time window. If they only get orders for 100 units, they will only make 100 units. They don't keep inventory of finished product, only parts. Think of it as the difference between a shipyard and a toy company - the shipyard doesn't have a stock of finished ships to sell you unless one of their customers had a bankruptcy. By only accepting bitcoins, they're not exposed to that risk.
I'm sure one person could order 1000 units if (s)he wanted, but only the first 500 would be delivered in the time window.

Edit: Actually, the idea of reducing inventory and storage costs has trickled down even into furniture sales: When you buy an expensive custom sofa, it hasn't been built yet, or is already on the truck from Poland.

I think we are in complete agreement.. you just stated my thoughts better than I did.

Hence, my suggestion that they initially limit it to one unit per customer, so that ( in the decentralized spirit of bitcion ) .. as many miners as possible have at least one godlike hashing unit...  if they don't come up with 500(600?) unique customers, by all means, then open it up to multiple units per customer.. but please at least give everyone a chance so that one (or a few) customers can't buy up the entire batch, simply cuz they refreshed the buy page 2 seconds quicker than everone else...

thanks,
Sigg

Batch two has been postponed as of now, stay tuned today for major updates. This gives a chance for more people to acquire bitcoins for the order, it will be at least 24 hours from now before order, but I do not expect the delay to extend past this week.

On the bright side, BTC value is going up = cheaper rigs!

So that it takes ages for them to deal with all the order handling, shipping waybills, invoicing, payment follow up?

I think they'd rather have 20 customers that take 30 units each than 600 customers that take 1 unit each

Heck, I'd place an order for 30 units if I could pay with wire transfer...

Is the delay perhaps caused by Avalon deciding to take order for batch 2 and 3 consecutively, so that those who miss out on batch 2 at least can order from batch 3 with those BTC and time off work/family commitments they would have to take anyway?

Or +30

Since that they don't seem to be in a hurry anymore, why not to open the orders like the last time, allow 10 days for the wires to come in and delete the orders that doesn't come in in time?

Less troubles for all of us fiat-powered.

Less commission for them, less problems in a speculative market.

After all mining is a hard way to convert fiat to bitcoin, correct?

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:
Bitcointa.lk - Replace "Bitcointalk.org" with "Bitcointa.lk" in this url to see how this page looks like on a proper forum (Announcement Thread)
Hashfast.org - Wiki for screwed customers

Since they are taking only BTC:

- Do you first buy and than make the transfer in 1-2 days?
- How is the BTC needed calculated? Especially since it is fluctuating a lot nowadays...

Why would they?
They've taken months of abuse on the forums - finally have shown their true colours by bringing kit to the marketplace.
Any serious customer into btc will have the coin to hand or made arrangements to have coin in time for batch#2
Demand will be far higher than the size of batch 2 - so they can cut out any headaches and ask for upfront payment.
