Had considered picking up an Avalon in a few hours, but after looking things over...

Pros:
--Early to ASIC mining, **chance** at easy returns while difficulty hasn't yet rocketed.
--?

Cons:
--Power consumption is ~30%+ above expected/advertised spec.
--Possible overheating/restarting issues.  And on the units they hand picked for demo/testing... scares me regarding the quality/reliability of the rest.
--Only know of two confirmed units in the wild.
--I have not seen any formal arrangement for support.  What happens if you get a dud, or if it burns out in the first 90 hours (or even days)?  What's the support/warranty/? policy?
--Already running an old version of the mining software, and it's custom with no source... so no upgrades until it's released (IF it's released).  (This also means no controllers other than what's on board, like a RPi).
--No order cancellations / no returns on batch2.

It's still new, so it's possible that some of these may have changed... (?).

I'll be staying away.  But GL to those that are considering picking one up!

Can someone answer my question? Is 1499 price in BTC including shipment or not?
+1

Please bitsynchguy, answer to this.

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:
Bitcointa.lk - Replace "Bitcointalk.org" with "Bitcointa.lk" in this url to see how this page looks like on a proper forum (Announcement Thread)
Hashfast.org - Wiki for screwed customers

Quote from: store.avalon-asic.com
You attempted to reach store.avalon-asic.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as *.pagodabox.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of store.avalon-asic.com.
Pagodabox appears to be a legitimate PaaS company, probably used for the site, but this warning will certainly scare customers.

Please bitsynchguy, answer to this.

It's 5.30am in NYC at the moment.  Give him a chance to wake up.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

An OpenWRT image was meant to be released (and it would need sources) a month ago. It never happened. Avalon is actually less open than BFL right now (since BFL released a draft protocol spec). Pretty disappointing.

but at least Avalon is shipping a working product now.

Obviously Avalon is going through a stressy week. Let them get through the second batch pre-orders, fix their funding issue and during the CNY they can put the OpenWRT image online. Any customer who received a box is in their right to demand to have access to it (have you ordered/received an Avalon?)

But they are free to comply with the GPL by releasing the source on a floppy disk that they charge $20 for and ship you via snail mail. No obligation to put it online

since there are not 6 slots in batch 2 now, shouldn't the price be reduced? is it?

If it´s just the case that is smaller (38 instead of 45 cm wide) then there is not much price difference
If it´s the power supply that is smaller, there could be another small difference

But the main difference between batch #1 and batch #2 is that the pre-orders for
batch #1 were lower and the price for batch #2 was supposed to be $USD 1999
