It is fairly ironic that atheists go around preaching tolerance and then talk about how horrible Christianity is when their opinion is entirely based on a few loudmouths who claim to be Christians but don't really live God's word. Everyone is welcome at church and we are taught to preach God's love to all. Even our homosexual brothers and sisters whom we supposedly (but in reality do not) hate are more than welcome in our places of worship. We're happy to answer questions and have civil discussions with anyone who has doubts or problems with Christianity and we support freedom of thought and using logical reasoning to confirm and support faith. Finally, any real Christian will admit that we--every single one of us--are far from perfect and do wrong on a day to day basis. Sometimes this even includes hypocrisy, but we recognize that it's wrong and do our best to move on. Only by submitting ourselves in faith to Jesus Christ in his mercy can we be freed of our sins.

That's it. As I have talked to many atheist they just talked the way they observed other Christians by word and not really as a true Christian following the Lord Jesus Christ. He never changed his demeanor, I've read the Bible and I get a completely different impression out of it.

He literally asks us to call him Father, so that's how I'm qualified. But you do bring up a fair point about fear: we fear him because he is just. Just like children fear their earthly father when they've done wrong and know that he's not okay with that.

It would take me a long time to completely address the jealous, vindictive, misogynistic, proslavery, homophobic and genocidal god thing, but you aren't getting the whole picture taking verses out of context. Here's a few points:

  --> He literally created us so it's not jealous (in the negative sense) to want obedience.
  --> Slavery in the bible is more like indentured servitude, and God commanded that slaves be treated well and given the chance to go free periodically unless they wanted to stay. It's nothing like American slavery or modern slavery, which God condemned: “Anyone who kidnaps another and either sells him or still has him when he is caught must be put to death” Exodus 21:16
  --> Homosexuality is a sin, but so is greed, gluttony, premarital sex, divorce, lust and turning a blind eye to the poor. God loves gay people just like he loves everyone else, because everyone has sinned. That *obviously* includes me. I've broken a good half of the 10 commandments. Some Christians have hateful biblical views on this topic, but that doesn't reflect the mind of God. He hates sin, but he doesn't hate us. A gay person who turns to Christ is in the same boat as my parents who are divorced, or myself since I've lied, cheated and stolen. But I believe we'll be in heaven.
  --> I'll admit, I have a hard time explaining why God would kill off a whole city. But remember that Abraham asked God to preserve the city if even one righteous person remained, and none did. We have people starving to death in a world of plenty! In India, more baby girls are murdered than are born in the US every year. Our marriages fail, our institutions are corrupt and greedy, and millions of people are in prison, some even being tortured. Well, why do you blame God? He made the universe and people to work like perfect clockwork. Then the people teamed up with the devil and destroyed the perfection.

If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property

Yeah, sounds nice... slaves are property, and you are allowed to beat them so long as it does not kill them within 48 hours

The bible also says slaves are property for life, and they can be passed down to your children (Leviticus 25:44)

1. God made it all. It was His right from the Beginning. He not only has the ability to do with His property as He wants, but He has the right to dictate how things are to be done.

2. It was God's property from the Beginning. Then man wrecked it by eating the fruit. Then God in mercy didn't destroy mankind for messing it all up. So, it all now belongs to God twice... the first when He made it all, and the second when He withheld His destruction.

3. You complain about God and His judgments. Well, God's mercy to you is the time He has left for you to change and humbly submit to Him rather than speaking against Him.

4. The final rule God will make for each one of us will be in the judgment at the last day. Badmouth God and His mercy all you want. You are still His property. He still rules you. Be thankful He has given you time to blabber your head off. If you don't turn to be on His side, you will have all eternity to suffer for it. God rules.
