Free on the market? Relative few, compared to the total. Most of it is locked up with people in it for long term, a part is held by the foundation and the market stabilization software (wallet peak #1 on Bittrex). The latter is in principal available for the right price. Then there is also quite an amount not accessible to non-Icelandic people, on the Icelandic exchange.

~14.0m  in existence, subtracting the
  5.3m  burned, subtracting the
1.0m  Aurarad foundation M1 fund, subtracting the
  2.0m  coins lost (guess)
=5.7m  total supply of AUR.

That's nice notice . I will mine auroracoin in this pool because I have a permant account of sky-pool on it for mining.
I believe that AURACOIN will be a best coin in iceland maybe it will be chosen as digital currency in the near future.

i'd love to see cryptoID explorer back up ..

They require payment to keep it running. Feel free to pay them to do so, but don't expect any help from the dev team.

The team has paid for all infrastructure fees out of pocket so far.  With the monthly costs of servers and such, we felt like funding another explorer just wasn't a necessity. It's a great explorer, and it was my personal go-to explorer for most things.  However, until the necessities of use are taken care of, the cost of extras isn't even a consideration for us at this time.

EDIT- Forgot to mention.  This explorer is pretty decent too, and might fill some of the void- https://bitinfocharts.com/auroracoin/explorer/
