As someone who has been an Auroracoin enthusiast since February 2014, I have to say I was a little surprised to read that the foundation had liquidated 80% of their AUR holdings.

I believed in the Auroracoin idea in part because I thought Iceland was the ideal laboratory for this experiment: a geographically small, isolated region, with a technologically advanced populace with a long history of currency debasement and an extraordinary stockmarket crash due to banker machinations during the 2008 crisis.

But I look at projects like Byteball, who have over 200 retailers accepting their currency in Milan, Italy and Bunz, also with hundreds of shops in Canada accepting their token, and I wonder why adoption of AUR has been glacially slow in Iceland.

Its too bad some of the foundation funds weren't used over the past 3 years to fund development and adoption. Maybe the story would have been different, or maybe not. Maybe Iceland is not the ideal laboratory for this type of experiment after all.

Because it was not foundation holdings! They have burnt unclaimed public air-drop, what has been promised before.

That is different. Baldur burnt the unclaimed coins but also transferred 1,000,000 coins to the foundation for development of Auroracoin.

The Emblemvault will be a AUR/500+ pairings exchange, running atomicswaps https://blog.goodaudience.com/the-king-of-atomic-swaps-c9becff072aa you can store any crypto in an Emblem and not sell it but store on a normal (encrypted) USB stick or (any $0.50) NFC card. Emblem is Bitcoin blockchain based, so you can store on hardware wallets like Ledger/Trezor.

That is different. Baldur burnt the unclaimed coins but also transferred 1,000,000 coins to the foundation for development of Auroracoin.

Well, I also was a bit surprised by the decision of the Aurarad foundation to sell off 80% of the M1 fund. But I also remember the true nature of Balduro's vision, being adoption of crypto in Iceland. He developed Auroracoin for that purpose, but not as a single means. He initially transferred the M1 fund to an Icelandic trustee with a final request to use it to further promote crypto in Iceland, if possible with Auroacoin, but also in different ways.

The move was bold, I agree, but I stand behind it 100%, because it's the right move.

I'm looking forward to renewed development of Auroracoin in the future, especially now that we finally have a solid ground (IBF) to build on (with).

We will release a more official statement on things (including the "maybe temporary" delisting from Bittrex) soon.

A fool will just look at the finger, even if it points to paradise!

I follow some coins that I like and Invested a lot to them. (btc ltc stellar dash doge 42 verge and more)  I do follow auroracoin from the beginning and it's sad to see  that the coin is going to the bottom. For me this is because is no team behind this coin right now. No developers too. If they do exist they are sleeping or the don't know about cryptocurrency) .. Iceland needs a new crypto-coin with a strong team behind, thank you

Just looking into this experiment. Has there been much real world usage? Are there other examples of regional coins like this and how does Aurora compare?

I would risk saying that Iceland is the furthest world wide in terms of crypto adoption
