I understand that you are a fan of all things BMT, but what makes you to be an expert on S9?  Tongue
1) I'm not a "fan".
2) Experience with ~1,000 units?

1% number could be accurate with regards to recent batches of autotuning 13.5Th machines, but initial batches (last summer, not autotuning) had up to 10% (or even a bit higher) board failure rate (within first couple of months) according to multiple sources, which was amply documented here and elsewhere.

Perhaps, most machines that you got were purchased during later part of 2016 or in 2017.

In summary, we have a better S9 in modification (from 12TH to 14TH) which have reducing the failure rate each batch, do we?

Question,

I have a APW3++ PSU that arrived DOA, the cooling fan does not spin which causes the PSU to do a thermal shutdown. I submitted a repair ticket with BITMAIN, do i need to wait to receive some sort of approval or do i just fill out the ticket and send it off?

Bummer...  You fill out the ticket and ship it.  Put in the tracking# and shipping company used.  Once they get it you will get an email.

Yeah the tracking number and shipping company used must be mentioned already in the repair ticket form, so they can process it smoothly.

Gotcha, thanks! I didnt know if it was one of those fill out the form, wait for RMA, and then ship it kind of things like most GPU MFG require. I appreciate your quick responses!

On a side note, i am very surprised i had PSU issues, this is the first time i've ever had a PSU issue... I've bought quite a few psus...

i wonder if they have a warranty sticker on the screws of the psu. does the fan spin freely when moved by hand?? if so maybe they didnt hook the wire up to the main board of the psu when assembling it. who knows. its probably best to send it in though if your located in the us.

I didn't even think about that, I just sent it off to California. On a side note, it looks like one of the S9's i just received a couple days ago needs to be sent off for service. One of the blades died. Not good  Sad

Doesn't look much promising. And a device making 30 TH/s will have the same profitability, if released in a year from now for $1600...

I have 51 Running.   4 have one bad board.    They have run around 3 months.

Sorry to hear  Undecided
This is a good example and closer to the truth.
7.8% failure rate in this case.

Isn't it actually 2.6% (4 of 153 boards total)?

Your way is correct too, I meant faulty units of total 51 units.

So, it is 7.8% failure rate unit wise and 2.6% failure rate hash board wise.

I think it is closer to reality to talk about failure rate per unit, as Bitmain wants the whole miner to be send to the repair if it is made after certain date.

There are still miners from the October batch on eastshore. They seem legitimate enough, and you can purchase from the October batch for close to retail.

The only thing more insane than prepaying a manufacturer is prepaying a reseller that's prepaid the manufacturer. Roll Eyes It's no fun (and an even greater financial loss to you) when your order gets backordered because his order got backordered.  Undecided

If you have to ask "why?", you wouldn`t understand my answer.

I've never ordered from them but I've heard only good things. I'm assuming they only sell what they have pre-ordered, as earlier batches of the S9 are sold out on their site, yet there are still S9's available from the later October batch for sale on their website. What do you think, do you have any experience with them?
