If ethereum relies on memory bandwidth, how the heck are you guys coming up with these hashing estimates when it only has a 256-bit bus? I don't think it's going to be anywhere near 30mh.

it's not only about memory bandwidth there are other parameter that work in sinergy with it and need to be taken into account, but yes probably max 25 and more realistic scenario would be 22

the 1070 on the other hand is confirmed to perform a nice 27MH at 100w

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I think the power consumption matters a lot. It means we the home miners who pay high electricity price can compete with the farms with old GPU again.

Hey I'm looking to add 6 RX480s to my gaming PC when they come out and use them for mining.  My motherboard is a MSI Z77-45 gaming and can accommodate 7 cards.  I currently have a Titan X in one slot that I use for gaming and mining with NiceHash.  I'd like to keep the Titan where it is and add the 6 RX480s on risers.  What PSU should I buy during this upgrade/mod?  Is a platinum 1600 watt overkill?  I'm in CA and have expensive electricity.  Thanks!

What is the hash rate you are getting with titan X also if you just want to buy 6xRX480 for gaming its a bad choice but yes 1200$ and the mining speed you will get approximately ~180mh/s on 900 watts .

Is a platinum 1600 watt overkill? I don't think so . 1 card only wants 150 watts .

Thanks for the quick response!  I'd like to keep gaming on the Titan X and only use the 480s for mining.  I am concerned about PSU price and efficiency and I don't want to be bothered with multiple supplies.  I also don't want to buy a psu with more watts than I need.  I think my current supply is an 80+ Silver 1000w.

From NiceHash Miner's benchmark feature here are my stats from my Titan X.
(in MH/s)
X11 - 12.33
X13 - 9.326
Keccak - 586.93
X15 - 8.146
Nist5 - 37.12
neoscrypt - 0.763
Whirlpoolx - 314.67
Qubit - 17.84
Quark - 22.74
Lyra2rev2 - 14.15
Ethereum - 18.518

OS is Windows 7

Pretty good hash rates but still 6x480 is a better option because its cheap and the hash speed is high on lower watts also 30mh/s is an expected hash rate wait till 29th lets see what happens. However if we get 25mhs still its better then 1070/1080 because of its price .
Your PSU complete model and name?

My PSU:
Cooler Master V1000 - Fully Modular 1000W 80 PLUS Gold PSU with Silencio FP Silent 135mm fan

Well your PSU watts are enough but i advice you to sell this one and buy a 1200 watt supply to avoid any damage from causing . Good luck mining with 6x480s. Dont forget to post hash rates here.

That's why it may be good to get these when they're released and not wait a month or so.  At these initial prices I can finally stop buying over priced last gen cards...   at least for awhile.
Can't wait to check performance.

Too bad the demand is going to go through the roof, with miners and tons of gamers wanting this gpu I can see what happened with the R9 200 series and prices. Expect a 100$ bump on these cards when demand is insane.

I see a lot of hype for that card and I'm not surprised. But with the demand already rising through the roof, I think many people will buy them not for mining and gaming, but just to put them on sale for 100$+ to make a profit of the miners and gamers, that will actually use the card Cheesy If the performance justify the expectations, I'm pretty sure those who get the card for 200$ will be the lucky ones - the others will, be paying more for it in the next months Wink

If the RX 480 price is higher than the R 390, by a big margin, I will buy the R9 390 instead if it has more hash.

The price for 390, nano fury should fall soon - because of new gpus so its best to wait to see the 480 numbers - and make the decision

yes and you will likely consume 50-100% more, no tnx i'll stick in waiting new gen card, also i don't want to be stuck with ancient technology that in the future no one want anymore

According to the AMD, the new cards will have 2x performance/watt. So if you have high electricity price, it is better to have the new cards.

You are dead on 50-100%, a nano is about the same specs as and r9 290x and that's what I am expect the RX 480 to be, nano uses 175w , 480 ~ 100w. I may buy some nanos if they drop HARD HARD like $140.

youre crazy if you think nanos will drop below 400  , either way they have an unmatched form factor and the HMB memory used to make them is crazy expensive.  They will hold thier value no lower than 429 until maybe the 490x cards are released at the end of the year.

Radeon RX 480 is already released in some places.

Quote
According to our information, some european stores already received their stock, and they are ready to sell Polaris 10-based graphics cards. In China a company called Dataland (Chinese PowerColor brand), was already selling places on reservation lists.

Can't wait!!!!  Grin Grin Shocked

You have to wait two more weeks.

If the RX 480 price is higher than the R 390, by a big margin, I will buy the R9 390 instead if it has more hash.

yes and you will likely consume 50-100% more, no tnx i'll stick in waiting new gen card, also i don't want to be stuck with ancient technology that in the future no one want anymore

Already are used http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Radeon-R9-Nano-4gb-/231973906748?hash=item3602b8e93c:g:gJwAAOSwuhhXWBJ0

The nano will be replaced by gamers with r480x if they have HBM, they can small form factor the 480

The fan already makes the card much larger.
you notice no one is biting on that card probably a refurb no other cards are that low

Nanos are nowhere near "about the same specs as an R9 290x" - more shaders, MUCH lower power usage, more RAM, much wider memory and higher memory bandwidth.

I don't anticipate the RX 480 having a noticeable effect on their pricing - perhaps when an RX 490 comes out THAT might affect Nano pricing noticeably.
From the specs I've seen to date on the RX 480, it is NOT in the same class as a Nano overall - somewhere between half and 3/4ths of the performance, mostly due to the higher clock rate and despite having about half the cores....

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

thats what im trying to tell them yes the 480 has newer tech and a newer fab process but the nano is basically the flagship of the current gen amd cards
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/R9_Nano/37.html

msrp on the nano is actully $649 so its already at a 20% discount already and with 4k shaders i dnt see how it
wil drop below 400 i grabed six for 480 this week

The nano has 4096 shaders while the 480 has 2304, that is less than 60% of the Nano. It might clock higher.

The nanos will have to drop in price or they will stop selling.  Who is going to buy a $450 nano over a $199 480 or a $379 1070?  Ive already seen brand new 390s drop to $259 on newegg now and ive been watching the prices of 390s daily since april
