Canadian guy here, just heard about bitcoins a couple months ago, and I live off the grid with no high-speed internet, so can't get in on the action yet.
I stayed up all night reading this forum, some of Morpheus's stuff about Goldcoin and stablecoin, and I am fascinated.  I see a day when there will be hundreds of distributed currencies, like Googlecoin, Exxoncoin, IBMcoin, GEcoin, maybe even Labourcoin (tagged to the value of 1 hour of unskilled labor) and so on, and a bunch of exchanges, and people will have highly diversified portfolios of currency, trading globally, without interference.  Despite what the Europeans are doing, and the Americans and the British, with their kleptocratic QE schemes and so on, a free market will arise, based on physical wealth.  As an anarcho-capitalist, this truly gives me hope.

Eh, I dunno bro. Firstly, there's not much advantage to having a basket of currencies. Ideally in theoretic terms you'd have a single worldwide currency. That wasn't practical with fiat money, but it is with bitcoin.

As for "labourcoin," there's no set value to 1 hour of unskilled labor, so it's a useless concept.

I disagree. Having a diversified set of currencies competing, each tagged to different economic sectors would help to be proof against recessions.  There is an incentive for large companies to make their own crypto-currencies, so they can move wealth around without large fees/taxes.  As for laborcoins, well, 1 hour of labor is approximately equal to 1 days food for 1 person, pretty much everywhere.  IMHO, a currency does not exist in a void as merely a medium of exchange, but should be tied to real-world, physical wealth.  Fiat currency relies on trust and consensus, crypto-currencies may be able to actually mirror real-world physical wealth, like barrels of oil, shares in a company or food.

Hello everyone. New here from usa missed the whole start of btc due to working 55+ hours a weeks for the last 3 years. Have a much more relaxed schedule now and am hoping to jump on the train. I'm really kicking myself. If I would have heard about this at the start I would have thrown loads of electricity at it in a hope and prayer. The second I heard about it It was a 2 year old article and I was thinking this could really take off.

I'm sad to say that I dismissed bitcoin a year or so ago because I was too busy to mess with it.  What a big mistake.  Now I'm fascinated by the who thing and really eager to get more serious about mining.  I'm currently running a test rig at 1.2GHash/s and am trying to figure out how to get into the ASIC game.  I'm a software/hardware engineer by trade and am always looking for new and interesting projects.
